Lozz196
Motley Crue - Motley Crue Vince Neil replaced by John Corabi. A bit heavier wth a much better singer. The problem was the dyed-in-the-wool Crue fans never accepted Corabi so Vince was brought back in.
Yep, musically by far the best album they ever made but a journey too far from the traditional bubble-gum Crue material.

Cato
1992 is mu favourite Carter album - I atill break it out for a listen every now & then. I'm not sure what qualifies as 'under rated' but my choices would be The Wedding Present 'Bizarro'. Maximo Park 'A Certain Trigger' Beastie Boys 'Ill Communication'. Oopsdabassist
Curved Air...Air Cut, the black sheep of the family with no Darryl Way on board, but 17 year old prodigy Eddie Jobson providing the Violin and the melodrama, this album is a hard rocking hippytastic crossover. I absolutely love it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11cRJedrR0Q&list=PL501844DB90713215
funkgod
Going to have to do two here if you dont mind... Alan Whites solo Album "Ramshackled" of all the yes spin offs and solo stuff this was by far the best. https://www.youtube....h?v=hi60D3fms2M And one of the biggest ripped influences check out Labi siffre, Remember my song.. everyone had a piece of Labi, Madness, it must be love, eminm, i got the. And hold on is that JK i hear in the vulture ? phrasing, tone, style, could almost be a jamiroquai blue print. anyway a great album https://www.youtube....h?v=yn0EaB4pXPs Edited August 31, 2015 by funkgod
gjones
Justin Currie (singer songwriter in Del Amitri) put out a solo album in 2007 called 'What Is Love For'. It got many 5 star reviews but didn't sell many copies. It's an epic album and a real lesson in how to write a song. And he's a bass player too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMbcm_1roeU

Fantastic from start to finish in my books.
It certainly deserves to be better known, but everyone who does know it seems to recognise it as the wonder that it is. Patton's finest work, if you ask me.
chriswareham
I have to second The Chameleons and add the debut album by Department S. It took over twenty years after it was recorded before it was released, which is a shame.

Annoying Twit
People are recommending some real stinkers here
But, in a way that's the point of the thread. Albums that are widely considered to be stinkers but which aren't that bad or actually are quite good makes them an unappreciated album. From the ones that I recommended, I'd say that Wings at the Speed of Sound is the one that's widely considered to be a stinker, but I disagree. I think it's full of great songs. I listened to Ghosts of Princes in the Tower (as an example) and I wasn't overwhelmed, but music appreciation is highly subjective, and I wouldn't want to go around insisting that my view is the only correct one. Billy Apple
I listened to the Rich Kids and I did think punk-lite. I squarely lay the blame at Midge Ure's door.
Leonard Smalls
My submission: Carter USMs 101 Damnations.
I wouldn't say 101 Damnations was under-rated. It had loads of NME/Melody Maker publicity; went to no.29 in UK album charts, plus a no23 UK singles hit with Sheriff Fatman. Our band supported them in venues as diverse as the Marquee, Edwards No. 8 in Birmingham and Gloucester Town Hall! In fact Jimbob broke his arm at one of our more scary parties... By contrast, the Praxis album "Transmutation Transmutandis" featuring Buckethead, Bootsy, Bill Laswell, Bernie Worrell and Brain was critically very well received (being a pretty darned cracking album!) and sold very few copies indeed - in fact it's no longer made... Graham
Metallica - St Anger. Seriously.
I agree, I've been listening to it again the last couple of weeks and I really like it, it definitely trails off in the second half, but the first half is a cracker. I've also come to the conclusion that I love the snare sound, it's just so raw and really suits what they were trying to do on this record. I also think it's the best kick sound Lars has ever had. It's just a shame that neither Jason or Rob played on this record, as the bass is a bit un-inspiring
