Last year we covered recording drums, maybe this year we could do something on recording a room full of acoustic instruments, such as a bunch of acoustic guitarists, with close and ambient mic'ing?
OK, not a problem, I will get some thoughts in order for that area. Excellent!

All workshops sound great - I'd quite like to bring my laptop/Ableton set up but it does involve quite a bit of gubbins (leads/boxes etc) and I won't be able to bring an amp - but if I could borrow an amp would I be able to use the house PA in the theatre bit?

I'm not sure exactly how instructive I can be but Ableton is such a great tool for composing, jamming and performing I'd be quite up for plugging in and showing what it can do - not sure how much people already know or if they're interested but I've only taken this stuff out a couple of times so far so it'd be fun to get all set up - others could plug in too... let me know what you think

Otherwise I'll just loiter about :)

Cheers

Mike

MIke, you're welcome to use my rig again if you'd like mate. I like hearing you play through it a lot, so it really wont be an issue for me :D

I haven't put myself on that list yet, but I'm coming to the bash. Since Happy Jack is kindly offering me a lift there, and he's carrying quite a lot of stuff of his own, I probably won't add anything to the car load or, if there's space, just my Rockbass 4 for trying out your rigs etc. if I feel confident enough. That bass is of no interest to anybody except myself, since it's plain, cheap and left-handed!

I'll add my name to the list closer to the bash date.

Does anyone have a 5-string Tanglewater they can bring? The gas pressure is rising. :)
No, but if you are free on Sunday 23rd, there's an Overwater bash in Barnes, west London, organised by the company itself. I think Martin posted about it on here, under Events.

Should be free and would love to come!!!! :)

Should I PM someone with my details?
No need mate, just turn up.

If bringing stuff, just add your name (& stuff) to the running list which keeps appearing in this thread.

Nice one Si - thanks - your tips on compression are still invaluable to me as I don't use it that much but want to know more about it.... anyway that's great and much appreciated - even if I don't run through the PA going through your amp will more than suffice

Cheers

I was hoping you'd think so. Here's a story from the Independent that does a pretty good job of covering the issue(s). This guardian article is somewhat shorter, but focuses well on the benefits decisions that have outraged disabled people.

The best organisation that I can find for a donation is DPAC (Disabled people against cuts): http://www.dpac.uk.net/

I started to write a rant against ATOS and DWP here but thought better of it. Just read the Independent article, please. All I'll say is I've witnessed first hand the distress this whole situation causes.

Had a look at this and it looks worthwhile..

Are there any other good causes people want to suggest we donate to?

Can I suggest The Amber Trust?

http://www.ambertrust.org/

"The AMBER Trust was created to help blind and partially sighted children, who have a talent or a love for music. Music really is of special importance to these children.... For others, many of whom have severe learning difficulties, music therapy may offer a lifeline, helping them to reach out in a dark and confusing world."

Good idea. For my ten pence worth I'd prefer any donations to go to music-related charities, cos that's what we do.
