South East Bass Bash No.6, Surrey, Saturday 29th September 2012

Hello Folks

Apologies to one and all because I've not been that well lately and that, plus being so busy at work, has meant I've not had any time really to worry about the Bash ahead of time like I have done previously..

So, it's been great today having a read of the thread to see what's been happening - all looking good! :)

There's quite a lot to try and get finalised still but with 3 weeks to go, I'm sure everything will be fine.. I'm going to split things that need addressing up onto some different posts now and if we could use those to comment on the individual issues, that'd be great?

Thanks and look forward to seeing you in 3 weeks! :)

Nik

Not sure if you count this as relevant to the Paralympics but given the shocking way this government is treating disabled people ( via the DWP and it's contractor ATOS, ironically, an Paralympics sponsor ) I'd suggest putting some funds towards the campaign to sort that out. I'll see if I can find a relevant charity, and links to something that sums up the awful situation.

I was hoping you'd think so. Here's a story from the Independent that does a pretty good job of covering the issue(s). This guardian article is somewhat shorter, but focuses well on the benefits decisions that have outraged disabled people.

The best organisation that I can find for a donation is DPAC (Disabled people against cuts): http://www.dpac.uk.net/

I started to write a rant against ATOS and DWP here but thought better of it. Just read the Independent article, please. All I'll say is I've witnessed first hand the distress this whole situation causes.

Andy

All workshops sound great - I'd quite like to bring my laptop/Ableton set up but it does involve quite a bit of gubbins (leads/boxes etc) and I won't be able to bring an amp - but if I could borrow an amp would I be able to use the house PA in the theatre bit?

I'm not sure exactly how instructive I can be but Ableton is such a great tool for composing, jamming and performing I'd be quite up for plugging in and showing what it can do - not sure how much people already know or if they're interested but I've only taken this stuff out a couple of times so far so it'd be fun to get all set up - others could plug in too... let me know what you think

Otherwise I'll just loiter about :)

Cheers

Mike

A/Bing amps would be an idea & if I can remember and bring the recorder & camcorder perhaps some clips.

I know Clarky can't make it but there was a thread his problems with getting the sound he wanted from a GB Shuttle that might have been possible from the Streamliner, so if we had a selection it would be interesting

I have no idea what to focus anything I do in yet another recording type workshop on. Does anyone have anything they would be interested in getting cleared up in that area??

Otherwise we will all end up just sitting around looking a bit embarrased :)

How about a lecture on one knob compressors! That should eat up about 30 seconds ;)

How about something about IEM's, the kit that's needed and practical considerations etc?

Not really a field of expertise of mine, since IEMs arent something normally associated with the whole recording process IME....

Any old amp will do Nick - but the better the quality the better the sound :)

Ideally I'd like to take a line out of the amp and then run the laptop through the PA - is that possible? Or I can just DI into the PA but a bass amp will give a better balance of thd the sound - let me know - PM if it's easier :)

If I can make it, I'm happy for you to use my Promethean, or put that through my EAD cab.
