+ 1 Rush - Exit Stage Left

Hard to understand how Ged, Neil and Alex pull this off even though I've seen it with my own eyes more than once.

This is my favourite Rush live album, musically they can still deliver but the vocals havn't been the same since about 1985.

More along WoTs line of acoustic brilliance, The Waifs - A Brief History.

Things really pick up around 2:00 when harmonica action kicks in.... stick with it... it'll blow your mind.

of course, this opens another can of worms, how many of these live albums are actually totally live? not many I suspect
The totally 'live' warts n all concept vs touched up versions debate doesn't bother me, if it sounds good and pleases me while adding a different slant from the original recorded version it's all good.

Queen - Live at Wembley '86
Sorry have to disagree here, as a massive Queen (& JD in particular) fan I have to say I was so dissapointed with the 'Magic Tour' output ('Live Magic' followed by 'Live At Wembley' some years later) Don't get me wrong the shows were good (I was at both Wembley and what was to be the last ever Queen show at Knebworth) but the recordings are trerrible

If you want to hear Queen live at thier best, then it's 'Live Killers' (78 European Tour) all the way

Cheers
Dave

+1 for Seconds Out but other favourites include

Joni Mitchell - Shadows and Light

Weather Report - 8.30

Cheap Trick - Live at the Boudakan

Sammy Hagar - Loud and Clear (All Night Long in the US)

Blue Oyster Cult - Soem Enchanted Evening

Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East

SF Jazz Collective - Horace Silver Tribute

Antonio Sanchez - Live at the Jazz Standard

I guess the bizarre thing is that 99% of jazz albums are by definition live anyway!

"Evilive" by the Misfits. Appalling quality recording of some almost-falling-apart horror punk performances. The bass tone is superbly dirty and the attitude is incredible.

Jerry Only used to have his bass tuned E,A, E, A just in case he broke one. :)

Wings over America - the triple live album by Paul McCartney and Wings around 76-77...great songs, a superb bass-sound (one of the best live bass-sounds I have ever heard on an album). I wish he had never got rid of that horn section he used back then (keyboard Wix could never replace them with his synths)

Joe Jackson - The BBC sessions (Graham Maby plays even better than on the studio-albums)

Level 42 - Physical Presence

Japan - Oil on Canvas.

James Taylor - Live (Jimmy Johnson flies through this great repertoire)
