1. Long time ago I have put seymour duncan quarter pounders, bad ass II and a varitone circuit in my squier jazz bass. I must say that the bridge made most noticeable difference. My jazz was made in Indonesia I think and the hardware was crap to the extent that magnet didnt stick to the bridge, the alloys used there were of questionable quality. After the change the tone got punchier but still I would change nut and keys so the sound and vibrations would seamlessly go through body creating the final tone.... anyway I got stingray since then. 2. I got one just two weeks ago. Still really finding out what it can do. So far I can say that: 1. It is unbelievable small and light; It fits with cables and compressor into my wife's small padded camera backpack 2. It has got lots of power (so far I am using it with my old Peavey TVX 410) 3. Clear and transparent tone; May be smooth or puchy depends obviously on your bass and how you going to set up filters on the amp itself (still looking for my fav settings though) 4. It is perfect if you want to practice at home, headphone output and dedicated volume knob are perfect if you got kids and can practice only at night 5. I have played several times with headphones and only twice with 410 cab so cant really say much apart from so far so good Re aux in. I havent used it yet but it is a good idea this amp is so small and portable that you can plug your PC in the aux in and play along anything in your headphones, still having the amp's original tone
3. For me natural with black scratch plate looks good enough. Why to to cover natural grain of the body? Unless you will choose translucent finish.
4. I guess it is difficult to find the one and only best bass sound but these are interesting: Intersting bass here by the way - Stingray with P pickup.
5. Yep, it is not easy to contribute to this forum having in mind that so much has been already said here. Newbie like me can find answer to almost any question on this forum.
6. Only fingers and thumb. It is also nice when both can be mixed in one tune. Never could play using pick, really.
7. I would say go for it as well. Still cant understand why there is so much fuss about playing slap. It is just another possiblity. It really does not matter whether you use pick/finger/thumb or even if you bash your head against strings, as long as there is a groove. Sometimes even if there is no groove for some and you still like it - you should go for it. Conforming in music isnt the right solution I guess. M.

Hi All!

Hi All, I am Michal, originally from Poland, living and playing bass in Edinburgh with band called 'Basic Funk'. Band name pretty much explains what kind of music I am playing, however there are jazz-blues-prog-rock twists in that as well. I have been playing for ...let me think...about 10 years. What I am playing has been influcenced by many artist and genres, it evolved from prog rock and settled at jazz-fusion. Favourite one would be Miles Davis electro projects in late 70' to late '80. These are infulences only, which doesnt mean I can play like Daryll Jones. My modest list of gear: Squier jazz bass, with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders, bad ass II and Varitone electronics, Candy Red (it is red, dont know name of this finish exactly) EBMM Stingray HH, Honeyburst, Maple, Black Ashdown MAG300 + Peavey TVX410 It is a great forum with a wealth of knowledge and good sense of houmour! Glad to be a member. Cheers! Michal
