  1. Always up for helping support the site I spend endless hours on! 😅
  2. Just had a look on the website. The special has some really nice colour options! The aqua sparkle is nice, but maybe the silver would win as I think the white pickup cover looks ace
  3. Stolen from Reddit - think its either a custom mockup or leaked and unreleased. But it looks so nice, shame I don't like the pickups in the 1005
  4. I've tried both the Strandberg and the Ibanez and I couldn't see how the Strandberg cost so much more. You could get the Pink and another one (almost) for the price
  5. At the expensive end of the Tribute range but still will probably be a very good bass for the money. Looking forward to trying one!
  6. Yeah that Aqua Sparkle is very nice! Was that custom spec or just off the hanger?
  7. I was planning on just knocking the gloss off and painting over the red as yes, some finishes put up a real fight! That's good to know, I think I would rather go to 18mm as that seems to fit far better. Will either go for that cheap bridge I suggested above or hold out for a Schaller/Hipshot
  8. You missed the part where put brand new Elixirs on for the test, took them off and put them in a packet for a year. There are too many variables to say which has the most impact though.
  9. I'm sure we are all guilty of buying/trying basses and it not sounding good or blaming our gear for us sounding bad. It's a 30min watch but it's quite interesting with some pretty respected opinions and some things I hadn't thought about regarding how the aging process affects an instrument. The bit where the artificially add vibration is questionable but the comparisons do sound different to me. TLDW: Skip to 18:44 to see the comparisons. So, do you agree? Do basses you bought brand new sound better after years playing?
  10. But yes, this a good option. Please buy it so it stops teasing me 😅
  11. I had the original SUB 5 string which I thought was solid enough. Earlier this year in tried a SUB directly against the Sterling and if you can afford it, it is a nicer bass that you won't be itching to upgrade parts on, particularly this bridge which is far nicer on the Sterling. Don't get me wrong the SUB is a Stingray and will get you most of the sound but the Sterling is more refined and will probably last longer in a collection 😁
  12. As Cam said, this has been in development for ages and Carey Nordstrand isn't going to get this wrong so I wouldn't worry about the quality or sound of it. Appreciate the looks won't be for everyone 😁
  13. And for reference. This is the pink it will be. Frozen Strawberry
  14. Also meant to add - I know hipshot do a vintage style bridge that comes in 17 and 18mm but it's more than I want to spend just now. Would an 18mm bridge like this fit? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371949328025
  15. So, some parts have arrived! Picked up some Squier elephant ear tuners from @jezzaboy to replace the tin foil tuners currently in place. I've never drilled holes for tuners so will probably need some advice on measuring to ensuring they fit. Already switched out the lovely strat pickup for a cheap rail pickup in a cool cover and it sounds not bad. Popped an old set of rounds on for now but will end up with tapewounds at some point. This will end up Pink with a tort scratchplate 😅 but the biggest task is working how to install and wire up this Quad rail humbucker I bought - much advice will be needed for this 😁
  16. @ped or @Rich or other assorted admin - could you migrate this to the Build Diaries please? I now have actual parts to tinker with!
  17. Good thing about the LaBellas, as expensive as they seem, you might have to replace them in about 10 years!
  18. Putting the EMGs in it make it super versatile for replacements which is good too
  19. Now if that was short or medium scale I'd be in. Does look good though
  20. I reckon I would go 5 as I just imagine they need more engineering to make a great 5 string (could be completely wrong) and by that logic I could get a 4 that suits my tastes more easily from a production model.
  21. Thanks for all the opinions so far! As I said it's purely hypothetical and I flip flop in what I want far too often just now to commit to a 6 month+ waiting time for any bass. Just thought it was an interesting conundrum for those who regularly play 4 and 5 string.
  22. Chicago Music Exchange have it as VVT. And no offence, but I trust CME over Andertons website.... Weirdly nothing about the V5 on the Sire website. https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/listing/sire-marcus-miller-v5-alder-4-string-natural-2nd-gen-pre-order/32643004
  23. Three very different basses there, all good within their own right. Out of those, on specs alone, the Sire would win for most. Depends on the pickup arrangement you want. Its worth noting that Sire also do the P7 which is a PJ setup in a precision style body
