  1. So progress! The bass was actually at my parents so finally got my hands on it. First thing - take it apart. The bass itself isn't in bad condition few battle scars on the back but nothing that bothers me. Something that did bother me were those tuners. Wow - I had heard they were bad but these are proper s***e 😂 so straight in the bin. Few minutes working away at the body to get rid of the gloss and then on to the spraying! As always with paint, I wasn't sure what colour this was going to be. I was aiming for the colour on the Flea signature bass and I'm pretty happy with the way it came out! Few more coats and sanding and I think it will be almost there, not sure if I am going to go down the gloss finish or leave it matte. Will see how it comes out across the next few days!
  2. Nice job @Baceface Dropped them an email so we'll see what happens
  3. Well.... Lovely and light. Few little knocks and stuff but nothing that would put you off for under £400. Little rattle on the G Tuner but little bit of tape sorted that right out! Weird little kink in a string that I hadn't seen before. Must have been resting on that for a while! Quick clean and change to LaBella tapes and happy days! Will do a NBD tomorrow after a wee play to work out settings etc. Also, i think I'll drop Sandberg and email and see if I can get a tort guard since they do one for the white version.
  4. In these circumstances the answer will always include the Fender Rumble until somebody else makes something better and lighter 😁
  5. I was going to do something similar with a Bronco project. Not sure if this is helpful but thought I would share when I asked about the Ray sweet spot in 30"
  6. Grand, I thought as much. I picture Sandberg as "if it ain't broke" types. Going to see the newer one later on.
  7. Question for the wise members: A couple of these Electras have popped up nearby. One is similar (without mods etc) to the one above the other is the newer shape. Does anyone know if there are any other differences apart from the shape? Also - the newer shape one has been gigged, the photos don't show clearly how gigged and is £100 less than the older model, which looks almost brand new. Which would you choose? I will of course make my own choice but always good to have opinions!
  8. So I think I want a relic Jazz ideally Shell Pink but open to other colours. Several routes available as I can see. I would love to to do it myself but not sure I have the patience and don't want it to look naff. Instant Gratification: Vintage VJ74 black £180ish relic. I know what I'm getting here, nice solid bass for the price but not a massive fan of the headstock and the neck isn't as aged as the body so looks weird. Possible Option: Bass Collection Jive Live Solar Flare £400. Might be a bit too much relicing. I've heard good things about the BC basses so know it will be a solid bass Save a bit option: The Fender Flea jazz £1000. Seem to be very well respected and they do look cool. Get one made: I messaged a page on Instagram Psyche Guitars, and they said it would be base £800 before extra aging and specs. Seem to use Wilkinson stuff as base so not sure I would see the value there. Other options are Shuker and Limelight - but that's probably getting close to £1500+ This was mostly just to write down my thoughts 😅
  9. To restart this thread - I'm looking at the Jive basses and wondering how much of a difference there is between the signature models and the standards. Did you get your standard P and how did it compare to the Bruce Thomas? Is there really £100 of difference? Thanks!
  10. Well that's the nice thing about Yamaha's. If I can't find a jazz I like I'll just go and get a 435. Problem solved.
  11. I loved my 425 but at times I found the body to just be a bit big and ungainly. I think I want a jazz - very much liking the Bass Collection offerings. If not one of them then the very obvious Sire route.
  12. Hmm odd. Next suggestion would be the earth isn't connected to anything but if you've checked out the wiring then I'm stumped
  13. This one @Al Krow 425.... Well now the fun part of finding a replacement!
  14. For the finger noise - pop some electrical tape over the pole pieces. Stops the contact and no effect on the output.
  15. Well, I am no longer am member/owner of the BB club. Probably going to regret it very soon but want to get something else.
  16. Nice place to start! Shame the amp had a false start but I'll give you one bit of advice that I am still guilty of. Don't practice unplugged. I reckon that's the reason my technique is too aggressive and inconsistent as I pickup and noodle unplugged too often and I need to pull harder to get the sound out of the instrument. Enjoy learning and ask all the questions you need to 😁
  17. Man wants a jazz bass, must sell to get jazz bass. Predicament.

Well, I sold something and got a P Bass instead. Ah well, always the next bass!

  18. I think now would be a good time to close this topic off and let the parties deal with this elsewhere..... @ped @Rich
  19. Not many basses make me make involuntarily noises, but this does. What a stunner, wrong time for me but it won't hang about!
  20. Good point, the only HB I had was a stringray copy and it wasn't light. My uncle has an older jazz and it also isn't light. Are the newer ones lighter?
  21. And now the thread has reached meme posting level. Well the outrage was fun while it lasted
  22. Looks great! I would change the Pickguard for a black one for full stealth, or Mirror for a bit of a laugh!
  23. So I've been following this thread and I think this has grown maybe an arm and half a leg but I can understand why many are annoyed by the customer service provided in this case. I've long been tempted by ordering Maruszczyk as they seem to get great reviews and they one I played seemed very well put together. I think I would still order from them and knowing what I know now (particularly from @ezbass) would be to try and establish the best way to communicate with Adrian early doors. I think English not being the first language hasn't helped so maybe going with German or Polish would aid the process. Not sure if it would help but that would be my approach
