  1. Yep very nice. These were made in Japan and most I have seen have been a bit 'used'. This one looks sweet though although the photo is rather small. Good luck. I should think this will fly for this price. Pretty rare bass this is.

    SOLD

MMMMMM - Nice. I love it. Got nothing to trade though unfortunately. Stunningly beautiful. You had great taste when you produced this.
  3. Oh yes. How nice is that. Good luck with the sale, but personally, it would break my heart to part with it man
  4. Oh yes, thats a very very nice Alembic man, but thats an awful lot of cash too. You will pick one up for less if you keep checking the forums and Ebay you know, so good luck and good hunting. All best
  5. Yeah you'll struggle getting it sorted through the Fender Japan route. A good bass luthier / repairer should be able to acquire replacement or equivalent parts much cheaper
  6. Yes, very well put by LukeFRC. Good advice, but if you still want to do this, I'd recommend a Fender Jaguar - a super jazz.
  7. All good points put forward for you to consider. I have a Rogue and its amazing. You do have to be careful playing though as if your technique isnt too precise they kick you in the balls. The necks are also prone to changes in humidity and temperature. The trim pots need trimming carefully too as these are pretty powerful basses and if the pots are trimmed too high it all gets a bit over the top. I wouldnt be too concerned about buying second hand though, and I played a mint Stanley Clarke at The Bass Gallery in January. Full LED neck and it played extrememly fast. Seems you are after a shorter scale and this would be excellent for you - but it was £3750. Maybe its still there. I would say though that as with all Alembics, dont buy one until you have played it and are happy. Its a lot of beer tokens to lay out after all. But if you want a unique Alembic sound that no other bass can reproduce, then go for it. I havent regretted it. Good hunting.
  8. Absolute top man. Bought an SEI Flamboyant this weekend from him. Cant recommend him higher
  9. Hi David. Thanks for a stunning bass. Used it live last night. Just need to set it up the way I prefer. It was great to meet up with you and have a good chat. Top man who is very knowledgeable. I would have absolutely no qualms dealing with you in the future. All the very best. Chris
  10. Hmm yes lovely. You must be the guy who just outbid me on Ebay for this at the backend of last year. Left it to my wife to bid higher and she bloody well forgot didnt she when I was at work ....... $*** !!!!!!!! Didnt speak to her for 3 days Bought an ACG since then which will never be sold as its that good, so no funds at the moment unfortunately. Bloody nice though. Bollocks I'd love it man. Good luck though. I'm sure this will be snapped up. If not.......well come October I'll definately snap your hands off. Chris
  11. I have an original 73 jazz with this neck on it. Mine is black the same but came with a black scratch plate from new. Rare. Right, just to expand a bit on whats been said here - the neck is the narrowest neck that Fender have ever made, and really fast to play. Geddy Lee actually bought his second hand in a junk shop and added the badass later. He also had the pickups rewound by about 5% over the standard winde. Any more than 5% and you are really into heavy metal sounding territory. The new Japanese Geddy Lee's are really superb and usually play fast as hell straight out of the box. For abouty £850 they are the best of the bunch. I would recommend one to anybody. You would not be disappointed with it. OK chaps, thats my two-penneth IMHO
  12. Take the opportunity to fit a brass nut if I were you. Small money too. The difference is really noticeable. Evo stick is fine.
  13. Pretty interesting shapes. We'll see if these take off.
  14. Just returned from the Northern Guitar Show in Tyneside, and I tried a Tanglewater contemporary jazz whilst there. I was astounded at how good it was. Fabulous fast neck and excellent electronics. Great build quality too. Baragin in my opinion for about £500. I would have bought had I not just bought an ACG a couple of weeks ago. Find one and play it - you will not be disappointed.
  15. God, dont I just hate signature basses. Wouldnt own one for the world. How naff can you get guys. I seem to remember mr c playing a gold sparkle jazz and I think that was an old original not a new one. This one still makes me wanna puke same as that awful reverso did. Jesus.
  16. My Jaguar has a chromed brass Gotoh 201 and the action is still excellent. I also have a brass nut fitted by Howard the bass doc and the combination makes a tremendous difference. Sustains all day.
  17. Forget these if you have 3 grand and want to spend it on something special. ACG my friend. The mutts nuts
  18. Man thats smart. Good choice. Howard is the man up in Newcastle. Top bloke
  19. Note to "Smash"s post. I have a 73 that has this really slim neck. It has the black blocks too on maple. Thats the only one you will find with these super slim dimentions.
  20. Had a custom shop one of these. Couldnt wait to get rid of it. Horrid thick flat neck. Uncontrollable pickups and always felt i needed a left arm 6 inches longer than my right. Body on these tends to walk to the left. Sold it for 1250 and glad to be shot. I think this one is overpriced especially for a cricket bat.
  21. ps: Do you want to sell your electric blanket ?
  22. need to go and check it in person of course but seems a real bargain to me. Tanglewoods are fine. Overwaters wouldnt have chosen them to make their cheaper models otherwise as they have a big reputation to protect. As youve now alerted everybody to the fact that its there you better not hand around or somebody will steal it my friend. Good luck
  23. I think this is definately a Fender. I have seen these before but they are a pretty rare beast. Seem to remember a Ventures reissue was like this but might be mistaken. Definately 80s. If you really want to make sure then have the seller remove the neck and see whats in the pocket and on the back of the neck base. If theres nothing there then its a fake my friend. If its genuine then you are probably in the money. As I said pretty rare to say the least. Well worth pursuing IMHO. Good luck
  24. Interesting. A Geddy Lee has overwound pups and shouldnt really be too quiet. I agree with comment about the difference between this and your 5 string. If you arent happy then I would try and find someone who also has a Fender jazz and compare the volume levels. Maybe take it to a dealers shop and ask if you can compare with other Fenders. There may be a wiring fault that can easily be resolved, but remember that passive Fenders dont have the most powerful of pups anyway. Good luck with it. A Jap GL is one of the best Fenders around with a neck to die for. Its well worth the effort in checking it out. All best
  25. Like you I play with a downward stroke rather than across the strings so a ramp is about the last thing that I need on my basses. I cant play over the pups and suspect you have a similar style. Personally Id try a cheap thumb rest. Try double sided tape at first. Not ideal but you would get the idea and could alter where you would want to place it as it depends on the size of your hands as well. You would then have more flexibility. If you were happy with it then you could buy a decent quality rest in chromed brass or wood of your taste if you wanted. Apart from hinging your wrist by using a thumb on the edge of a pickup this is the best alternative. Some pickup formats can make it awkward to use the edge of the pup anyway. Hope this helps. All best
