1. I like Mustangs having owned two in the past. An original 78 USA and later a Jap model. I like this one but wonder just what the actual difference is. Does it have a different pickup for instance. I found the Jap one that I had, to be a bit weak to be honest.
2. Well it'll have to be really very special indeed to be a sales success over here at that price level. I'd be going down the luthier route, and then I really would get something special - oh, and also rather unique rather than an expensive production model. But good luck to them anyway
3. All good comments and remember you can do financial damage to yourself by modding a standard model. My advice .............. sell it and buy a proper active bass. Shouldnt have a problem then.
4. Yuck. Not my cup of tea. I'd rather string a cricket bat.
5. Well my 73 jazz has the gasket fitted but I know some didnt. Not sure this wasnt just down to lack of quality control at the time in the 70's. There were also quite a few oddities escaping from the factory at the time as well. On the production line if a techie ran out of the particular scratch plate for instance they would just fit the nearest one to hand and so some unusual examples were released. The main thing for you to watch out for if you are looking to buy, is the neck fit. By the early 70's the jigs for cutting the neck pockets were rather worn and the pockets tended to be larger than they originally were. Generally you can move a fender neck of this period from side to side in the pocket. That doesnt mean you should take a walk though. You really just have to treat it with care and make damned sure that the feel and sound is right before you buy. The most common problem to check for is the 'C' on the fifth fret of the 'G' string. They can tend to be dead, but not all are like that. Personally if was dead I'd walk, but otherwise if it was live as it should be, there is no reason not to buy. Hope this helps. Good luck.
6. What a beauty. Unusual to see an Alembic with chrome hardware and oh doesn't it look so fine. I really cant believe this is still here at this price and being such an unusual Alembic at that. For heavens sake somebody buy it, its a great investment as well as being the dogs testicles in performance and sound. Jesus.
7. As the owner of Gallas No 1 (No 65 on the ACG gallery) I can assure you all that these play and balance perfectly. Price is reasonable for a bass of this quality too. Come on fellas - somebody should snap this up. Top gear for the price of a crap fender.
8. Oh what a beauty. Another masterpiece from ACG. Unfortunately no funds or I'd be in bother with the wife again, but I can't see this gem hanging around long. Good luck

14. TimR hit the nail on the head about the 4ohm cab. You dont know yet how much volume you will need. I use two GK 4x10 MBE's both rated at 8 ohms, but when the venue is small I just take one of them. Ok less power, but I dont need it in a small venue anyway. You could buy just one 8ohm cab and later if needed I'd recommend a GK 2x10 or 2x12 (MBE) as a second cab - but make sure it is also rated 8 ohms. Using an 8ohm with a 4ohm together can cause amp problems as the ohmage comes down to approximately 3, and the amp can run hot or even worse overheat and breakdown. Correct ohmage is very important. The GK's are nice and light too - important to you I understand. Well thats my twopenneth anyway. Food for thought. All best.
15. I use a WTX500 through two GK lightweight Neo 4 x 10's and the sound I get is superb. Still amazes me that an amp literally the size of a car CD/Radio weighing about 5 pounds can produce such a huge sound. No intention of swapping it for anything unless it becomes unreliable which it has'nt been up to now. Cant praise Eden enough. Hope it doesnt go out of production. All best everybody.
16. Good points made by all but if quality control issues bug you ( and they should ) then I would look no further than Fender Japan if its Fender you are after. I have owned and played Heaven knows how many Jap Fenders and I have never had or seen any building problems on any of them ( 2007 onwards ) that is. The neck pockets have all been first class with absolutely no gaps at all. All best.
17. I have a rogue 4 similar to this. Its the dogs testicles to say the least. Come on fella's, get yourself the best christmas present ever. You wont be disappointed
18. Hi there. Dont know how to do a PM. My friend is extremely interested in the Dr Bass cab you have. Can you PM me back please about it. My email is "][email protected] to send photos to. Thank you
19. Just lovely. I own Gallas No1 now and will not ever be parting with it. What a builder. Need more - yeah yeah - more more, brother.
20. I'm sure you will still be able to find a new Jap made Geddy in a store somewhere. Dont know about Mex made GL's but every Jap one I have played has been wonderful and also wonderfully setup straight out of the box. I dont think £800 is out of the way for this model which has the best Fender neck ever made on it. Up to you man.
21. Why on earth would I want to buy a Fender if funds were unlimited. I'd go for Alembic, SEI, ACG to name a few. However if pushed down the Fender route I'd want a US Fender Zone bass. Lovely lovely bass - but rare as rocky horse dung. Only things changed I'd want a real nice chromed brass bridge and an ebony neck with LED's.
22. They all are active as far as I know. Your bass should now sound like the dogs testicles with a new battery in it. These are seriously good basses man
23. Another bullshit bass from Fender. They seem determined to put as many existing shapes into every format possible to try and sell a few more basses: the not insignificantly priced 'Dusty Hill' to mention one. Cant see the resale price of one of these amounting to much. Not a snowflakes chance in hell of me ever getting something like this, but its your hard earned folding stuff at the end of the day man.
24. All good popints made. However before you go butchering your P bass you must consider whether or not you are destroying the value of your bass in its current configuration. Old P basses are expensive today but those that have been altered in this fashion have seen their value stay rather low in comparision to a bog standard factory built model. No collector in years to come would touch it. Personally I'd prefer to sell the P and buy a real Fender PJ model if that is what you want - and probably protectring your investment to boot. Just a point to consider my friend. All best.
