  1. The Rumble 500 is an excellent combo. A friend owns one and it's definitely more than loud enough, on it's own, to cope with a heavy hitting drummer. Sounds good too. I bought a Rumble 100 for the smaller quieter gigs I play and it's great as well. Both combos are absurdly light. I own a GK MB800 and an Ashdown ABM 500, paired with Barefaced cabs. Which I use at bigger gigs. And frankly, sometimes I think about getting rid of them and buying a Rumble 500, just for simplicity's sake.
  2. I bought my first set recently and love them. I bought them from Strings Direct because I saw so many cheapo offers on Ebay that I assumed they had to be fake. I like them better than the DR Hi Beams I usually use. I prefer the feel of the Elixirs and the sound.
  3. A secondhand Barefaced Compact is extremely light, extremely loud and extremely cheap - considering what you get for your money. You can pick one up, on Basschat, for about £300. Then you can sell all your other cabs because you won't need them any longer
  4. 1 is pretty cool. 2 must be twice as cool 😁
  5. I know many pro musicians. The thing that all of them have in common, is that their pay is pretty rubbish, and they have a wife/partner/significant other that works a proper 9 to 5 job and subsidies their meager income. My brother in law has been a pro musician his whole life. He plays solo gigs, band gigs, bar gigs, international festival gigs and financially he'd be better of collecting trolleys in Asda. We have to admit that musicians are not valued in our society. This song says it all.
  6. I bought a bass which has Elixirs on it. I loved the feel, the sound and the low tension, so much that I recently bought a set for my main Jazz. I like them more than my usual DR Hi Beams.. They are expensive though and I'd warn people off buying them at knockdown prices from Ebay, as they're probably fake..
  7. I've had a few and they've all been great. I have 3 MIJ fenders at the moment and 3 USA ones. The MIJ ones probably have the edge. The neck of the 57 MIJ P bass I have is a joy to play. Buy with confidence, you'll be impressed..
  8. Remember to count your fingers before cutting out the body and afterwards as well. If there's a discrepancy, call 999 right away. 😃
  9. About 15 years ago I had about a 2 year break in playing. Joined a new band and my fingers on both hands started cramping. I used these to strengthen my hands and after about a month I had no further problems.
  10. I bought mine to replace an ABM 500. I think it has a very classic Ashdowny sound. Discontinued a long time ago now, as the EQ was too complicated for us simple minded bassists.
  11. I play in 2 bands at the moment. One is a long established, busy gigging band, with musicians of a professional level. The second band is a collection of more amateur, less experienced musicians, who love getting together and playing music for their own pleasure. I like rehearsing with the second band but love playing gigs with the first one. Music is meant to be played in front of an audience, it's meant to be shared. Playing live gigs is where the magic happens.
  12. ' Includes custom Anvil case, custom studded leather strap and custom studded wristband, mirrored aviator sunglasses and Certificate of Authenticity.' Oooooooooooh!!!!!
  13. Neither did I. Then when I did eventually pluck the courage up to adjust it, it had locked solid.
  14. I'm from the future. I wrote that on the 1st of November 2019 😃
  15. Stuff has happened since 2007. In 2009 you could get two dollars to the pound. The pound has lost 80% of its value since then.
  16. It's very rare that I don't enjoy a gig. Even if it's a small crowd and they're not really into it, I get a lot from the experience. It boosts my serotonin levels. I suppose I'm lucky that I've played with some decent musicians and singers over the years.
  17. My Barefaced Compact sounds excellent at medium levels but ever better when my band are really going for it. I was playing a gig, a year or so ago, where I could get a fair distance away from the rest of the band and the sound was awesome. A really tight, articulate, rocky sound. The amp I was using, on that gig was a 500 watt Ashdown MiBass head. I confess I almost drowned out our rather loud drummer that night. No woolliness, or farting out through that rig. My GK MB800 is even louder through that cab and clear as a bell.
  18. His tuning method is very logical.
  19. Dont get me started about playing for free in Edinburgh during the Festival/Fringe. Exploitation is everywhere up here during the summer. Somebody is making money but it ain't the performers.
  20. I never thought I'd like jazz with an accordion but I like this track
  21. Nah.... There are so many ways to scam people out of their money on Gumtree and this sounds like one of them. Take cash, at your door, from the person who is buying directly from you, or don't sell it at all.
  22. I have had to draw the line with my country band, as to how many new songs we can learn. They're not gig orientated, they just love country music. So I had to explain to them that 20 songs that we know well and can play tightly at a gig, is better than 40 songs that we know vaguely and can stumble our way through, in a shambolic manner. I'm forming another band, with other musicians, and I was very impressed by the two guitarists, who were very focused and had done their homework before the rehearsal.
  23. Friends of mine, who play and sing, are getting to a certain age. It's an aid to early onset dementia
