  1. Not any more it isn't. It went bust.
  2. I'm going to see my niece's band, Honeyblood. She's got a 3rd album out in May. The last two were both nominated for Scottish Album of The Year.
  3. Good to hear the acoustic band is taking off. I usually play with a busy rock/blues band but because the guitarist has recently got a new job, with inconvenient working hours, our bookings been reduced significantly. But my Country band, who I've been rehearsing with for quite a while, have started taking off. And as you mentioned, because they're a significantly quieter band (no Marshall stacks and a drummer playing rods), I can actually hear my bass. Good luck with the new direction (you'll be getting a double bass next ).
  4. I have a Precision Elite and a Jazz Deluxe but, personally, I'm not a fan of the Fender pre amps. I'm seriously thinking about fitting a John East in my Jazz Deluxe, to make it more usable. It is very well made though and looks gorgeous (black with maple neck with black blocks and binding). I picked mine up for £850 S/H, which is a very good price.
  5. I used to use The Stratosphere, which has an Ebay shop. I've bought necks, pickups, scratchplates etc, secondhand. But these days it's an expensive option since the £ nosedived. Also you need a CITES certificate to import rosewood necks from outside the EU. https://stratosphereparts.com/
  6. Excellent restoration, well done.
  7. I've got it and will sell it back to you for a million dollars.
  8. I know a drummer who played a shakey egg on his folky album (the one where he grew a beard).
  9. No 8 - The room you're in
  10. Even if the price of your old bass merely keeps up with inflation, it's better than putting your cash in the bank. Alternatively you could invest your cash in porkbellys (whatever they are).
  11. I have the J Retro in my Jazz.
  12. I really love the John East pre amp. I have a Fender Deluxe Jazz and a Fender Elite Precision. Compared to the John East pre amp, the Fender versions are pretty basic. The thing I miss most with the Fenders, is a sweepable mid control. I'm tempted to buy the deluxe version, of the John East, for my jazz.
  13. You don't need to take the neck off. Just remove the scratchplate, put something down to protect the body (I use a piece of card) and use a phillips screwdriver to adjust the trussrod. You can loosen the strings if you wish but it's not necessary.
  14. They are great basses. One thing I noticed with the pair that I owned, was that although could get a low action, the necks were temperature sensitive and I found that they required regular, adjustment.
  15. I bought a G&L L2500 tribute a few months ago, and I really like it. It has a lot of tonal options and also has a very tight sounding B string.
  16. I've trained myself to take constructive criticism without going in a huff. In fact I welcome it.
  17. I learned hey Joe from a book which had one of those floppy records enclosed.
  18. Suspending a buyer? That's about as dumb as it gets. Ok you may end up buying directly from the seller on this one purchase but eBay is all about buying at a distance and it's rare that you get the chance to try before you buy. Pushing a buyer off like that is bad business.
  19. Did you bankrupt him, with your demand for a £20,000 fee?
  20. My recently bought, early 90s, MIJ Fender Precision (from Basschat), sounded perfect playing with my country band, at the weekend. I have various posh basses but the P bass sounded perfect for the type of songs we were playing. You can't go wrong with a MIJ P bass.
  21. I sacked the drummer in my band for exactly the same reason. He was also my landlord. But he had to go. I figured that, as we had another more committed drummer waiting in the wings, a decision had to be made. And I could always find another flat.
  22. Interestingly I heard this song on the radio the other day and thought exactly the same. The good thing about being the a bass player and the boss, is that you can whack the bass up in the mix and drown out the guitarist. By the way, that's the first time I've heard a Rikky sounding halfway decent live (but still think he should have kept the Yamaha)..
  23. Just give it time. I've seen MB500s going for £250 recently and MB 800s going for around £350.
  24. I play through a PF500 and an ampeg 410 at a local venue regularly (it's the venues gear). The problem with the PF500 is that, if you want to play loud, you have to turn the gain up. If you turn the gain up it tends to sound pretty overdriven (which is fine if you want that sound). A few times I've brought my Gallien Krueger MB500 along to the gig and found I can get a much louder and cleaner sound out of the 410, than I could with the PF500. A few months ago I bought a Barefaced Super Compact and even the GK MB500 wasn't powerful enough to drive it enough to compete, comfortably, with a loud drummer. So I went out and bought a GK MB800, which now gives me enough power to get the level of volume I need. GK amps are very powerful and ridiculously cheap, secondhand.
  25. I like the song, it reminds me of Jeff Buckley, but I'm not a fan of her voice. Maybe she could write the songs and get another singer into the band to sing them (like Pete Townsend does with Roger daltrey). But she is a great bass player.
