Cheap Geddy Lee Jazz. London crack converters. Be quick
gjones replied to vinorange's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Fake. -
Tell me about it. I have a Geddy Lee, which is very sensitive to temperature changes.
-
I used the 1x15 version for years and it never let me down. More than loud enough to keep up with a loud drummer.

Albums which haven't aged all that well
gjones replied to EliasMooseblaster's topic in General Discussion
Any tracks with gated reverb on the snare, are unlistenable to me now. -
Bought an amp from Simon. Great communication, speedy delivery and amp was well packed. A painless buying experience. Buy with confidence.

Super Compact and GK MB500 combination is a bit underwhelming......
gjones replied to gjones's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well I've just bought an 800 watt version of the GK MB500 I'm already using, from a fellow Basschatter. Hopefully the extra watts is what my SC needs, on those loud gigs. -
I was in a band with a continuous revolving membership. People would join, not be able to get to rehearsals due to family commitments, then leave. Over the 3 years I was with them they had 19 members. We never had a full rehearsal, with every member present. Not surprisingly, the gigs, what there were of them, were crap. Eventually, after a long 3 years of this malarky, I gave up on them and left the band, which ceased to exist not long afterwards.

Super Compact and GK MB500 combination is a bit underwhelming......

I tried it, last weekend, at a bar we play regularly. I played my Jazz, with a J retro pre amp at that gig, and I didn't notice any problem. I've got a few more gigs in July so I'll take it out and give it a blast with different basses. Hopefully I'll figure out what the issue is. -
When my original one got a bit manky, I bought a thin sheet of copper from Ebay and cut a thin strip from that with a pair of scissors.

Super Compact and GK MB500 combination is a bit underwhelming......
gjones replied to gjones's topic in Amps and Cabs
The sound I was looking for was a clean sound. With the gain up at halfway, the sound I was getting was starting to get a bit gnarly and distorted. Also, the limiter on the amp was cutting in, which has never happened before. The speaker wasn't farting, so I feel the Super Compact would have been fine with a more powerful amp. I could do one of two things, I suppose, get a louder amp (such as the GK MB800) or bring both the Super Compact and my old Compact along to louder gigs (I was hoping for a one cab solution). Maybe I need one of these.... -
I recently bought a Super Compact from Barefaced. I took it out for it's first real loud gig and frankly I'm underwhelmed. My main head is a GK MB500 and paired with my gen 1 Barefaced Compact, it's incredibly loud. But paired with the new Super Compact, I have to have the gain at about halfway and the master at max, to keep up with a loudish drummer. Initially I thought it was the high output of my Fender Precision Elite that was the problem, as the sound was breaking up but I then switched the bass to passive and I still couldn't get the kind of volume I can get with my old Barefaced Compact, without winding up the master to maximum. I don't know if the problem is with my bass, the Super Compact, or the GK MB500 (i.e. not enough watts to drive the cab to it's maximum)? I almost bought a GK MB800 but my MB500 is super loud with my old Compact, so I decided to ask the Basschat hive mind what they think the solution may be. P.S. By the way, the reason I bought the Super Compact, was because my old Compact can be difficult to hear when I'm standing close to it and I was advised the Super Compact is easier to hear on a cramped stage.

Fender Precision Elite 2016 FS/FT ***TRADED***

I used to play in a band with a drummer who speeded stuff up to a ridiculous extent. Even when I counted him in he would come in at his own superfast tempo. The rest of the band told him that, playing the songs at that ridiculous speed, made it difficult for the singer to get the words in but his stock answer was, 'I felt it needed a bit more energy'. Even though the band all really liked him, he had to go.

And she's looking good for 55.

Bought mine on Tuesday night, no sign of it so far. Did they send you an email to confirm it was with the courier?

I just splashed some cash, on a Jazz Bass from Bass Direct, yesterday. I bought it online. It's my first time with the shop. i'm hoping all will go smoothly.
-
Oh dear, I feel the same. Recently I bought an Elite Precision but frankly, as a weekend warrior, I don't feel worthy to be playing it in public. One thing I'm not.....is Elite.

I'm not sure what it is, possibly an early Big Baby without the tweeter? Much cheapness though. Only £250 smackers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barefaced-Bass-Cab/113060005018?hash=item1a52e6c49a:g:OVEAAOSwrU1bIUAJ

If the venue is SO dodgy*, that I feel I may need use my bass as a weapon, I take the Squier. * i.e. it's in Dundee

Did your band improve AFTER a player left?
gjones replied to Arrowsmith's topic in General Discussion
The guitarist in my country band was ousted, due to being a bit of a git (and having atrocious BO). The replacement is not as good a guitarist as the guy he replaced but a much nicer person. Harmony has replaced discord and the band is in a happy place. -
I played for 10 years with a blues band with a very 'sensitive' drummer. He was very aware of how dynamics can improve a song and it taught me a lot about light and shade. But many other bands I've played with don't understand what it can add to a song. My main band's present drummer, is a great drummer but has no idea of dynamics. When I ask him to play quiet, in particular sections within a song, I can see that it is difficult for him (usually he just stops hitting the snare).

I have a GK MB500, which I use with a Gen 1 Barefaced Compact. I also own an Ashdown MiBass 500. The GK MB500 is much, much louder than the Ashdown head, through the same cab. Which goes to show that some 500 watt amps are quieter than others, and the lack of decibels may be more to do with your Markbass head's lack of ooomf, than the Barefaced Super Compact's limitations. Last week I took delivery of a new Super Compact. I look forward to seeing how loud it will be, compared to my old Compact, with the GK MB500 through it. I need it to compete with an enthusiastic drummer and a guitarist with a Marshall stack.

The Precision is whatever the opposite of Donald Trump is.

Understated is probably the quality you're thinking of. No bells and whistles. Nothing flash.

If you moan about having to learn 11 songs for the audition, then that tells them that you probably don't have the time or inclination to learn the other 30 or so songs in their set. If you really want to join the band, it's best to just learn the songs and appear keen and professional (you can take notes - I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with that).
