  1. Gary Clark Jnr is a good place to start.
  2. Every Laney bass amp I've played, in rehearsal rooms and at gigs, has sounded great. I do believe their lack of kudos, is merely due to brand snobbery. I've owned many top brand amps and cabs over the years and laney holds it's own with all of them.
  3. You are right. Most of the engineers I've dealt with, have no idea that most bass amps have a pre/post button on the back.
  4. Melodic and groovy too.
  5. Now you tell me!!!!! 😮

  7. FFFFFFFF.......Fake!
  8. From what I could see on my phone it had truss rod access on the headstock. Geddy Lee basses have truss rod access at the body. At least the two I own do
  9. Tell me about it. I have a Geddy Lee, which is very sensitive to temperature changes.
  10. I used the 1x15 version for years and it never let me down. More than loud enough to keep up with a loud drummer.
  11. Any tracks with gated reverb on the snare, are unlistenable to me now.

Bought an amp from Simon. Great communication, speedy delivery and amp was well packed. A painless buying experience. Buy with confidence.
  13. Well I've just bought an 800 watt version of the GK MB500 I'm already using, from a fellow Basschatter. Hopefully the extra watts is what my SC needs, on those loud gigs.
  14. I was in a band with a continuous revolving membership. People would join, not be able to get to rehearsals due to family commitments, then leave. Over the 3 years I was with them they had 19 members. We never had a full rehearsal, with every member present. Not surprisingly, the gigs, what there were of them, were crap. Eventually, after a long 3 years of this malarky, I gave up on them and left the band, which ceased to exist not long afterwards.
  15. I tried it, last weekend, at a bar we play regularly. I played my Jazz, with a J retro pre amp at that gig, and I didn't notice any problem. I've got a few more gigs in July so I'll take it out and give it a blast with different basses. Hopefully I'll figure out what the issue is.
  16. When my original one got a bit manky, I bought a thin sheet of copper from Ebay and cut a thin strip from that with a pair of scissors.
  17. The sound I was looking for was a clean sound. With the gain up at halfway, the sound I was getting was starting to get a bit gnarly and distorted. Also, the limiter on the amp was cutting in, which has never happened before. The speaker wasn't farting, so I feel the Super Compact would have been fine with a more powerful amp. I could do one of two things, I suppose, get a louder amp (such as the GK MB800) or bring both the Super Compact and my old Compact along to louder gigs (I was hoping for a one cab solution). Maybe I need one of these....
  18. I recently bought a Super Compact from Barefaced. I took it out for it's first real loud gig and frankly I'm underwhelmed. My main head is a GK MB500 and paired with my gen 1 Barefaced Compact, it's incredibly loud. But paired with the new Super Compact, I have to have the gain at about halfway and the master at max, to keep up with a loudish drummer. Initially I thought it was the high output of my Fender Precision Elite that was the problem, as the sound was breaking up but I then switched the bass to passive and I still couldn't get the kind of volume I can get with my old Barefaced Compact, without winding up the master to maximum. I don't know if the problem is with my bass, the Super Compact, or the GK MB500 (i.e. not enough watts to drive the cab to it's maximum)? I almost bought a GK MB800 but my MB500 is super loud with my old Compact, so I decided to ask the Basschat hive mind what they think the solution may be. P.S. By the way, the reason I bought the Super Compact, was because my old Compact can be difficult to hear when I'm standing close to it and I was advised the Super Compact is easier to hear on a cramped stage.
  19. If you had posted this 6 weeks ago you would had a sale but, due to my shocking lack of patience, instead of waiting for a secondhand one to come up on Basschat, I went and bought one new. Good luck with the sale. Have a bump, on me, for a lovely bass.
  20. I used to play in a band with a drummer who speeded stuff up to a ridiculous extent. Even when I counted him in he would come in at his own superfast tempo. The rest of the band told him that, playing the songs at that ridiculous speed, made it difficult for the singer to get the words in but his stock answer was, 'I felt it needed a bit more energy'. Even though the band all really liked him, he had to go.
  21. And she's looking good for 55.
  22. Bought mine on Tuesday night, no sign of it so far. Did they send you an email to confirm it was with the courier?
  23. I just splashed some cash, on a Jazz Bass from Bass Direct, yesterday. I bought it online. It's my first time with the shop. i'm hoping all will go smoothly.
