If people want a cheap alternative to the expensive house/rental prices of Edinburgh, they usually pick Fife. The towns, on the Fife shore of the Firth of Forth, are all within commuting distance of Edinburgh. You would then have access to gigs/teaching opportunities within Fife, as well as Edinburgh.

I'm very pleased with the Fender Rumble 100 V3 I bought, secondhand, for £165. I bought it for the quieter gigs I play and it keeps up with a sensible drummer no problem. I thought about buying a One 10 but now I have the Fender Rumble there's no point. I've got a friend who uses the 500 watt version and it's great as well.

I remember, when my band played a festival last year, the sound engineer put one of these in front of the guitarist's 10 watt valve amp. Overkill or what?

I have the opposite problem, I never look at the audience, unless there is a fight or a couple start having sex. I'm oblivious to them all

4 weeks, congratulations

I recently bought a Fender Precision Elite and a Geddy Lee Jazz bass. I now have a Stingray too and I love them all for their very individual characters. They all sound very different and also all feel very different to play. The elite has a satin compound neck, the Stingray neck is oiled and waxed and the Geddy Lee has the slimmest Jazz Bass neck know to man. They're all fantastic in their own way and give me quite a conundrum when I have to choose which bass to take to the next gig. I'll probably end up taking my Squier Precision

i bought a Geddy Lee Jazz from Nord1. it was in perfect condition and packed very well. A very smooth transaction.

Gail Ann Dorsey sets the EQ with the Bass on full, the treble off completely and a a teeny bit of mid dialed in. That setting sounds good in my living room, hopefully it will sound good live as well.

No problem with a weak G string on this one.

I just bought a 2014 Stingray and I really love it. I have had two USA SUB Stingrays previously but they were quite different basses to this new Stingray. The neck is very different than my SUBs. The necks on those were like baseball bats compared to this one. It's neck is quite shallow front to back and it has a waxed matt finish, which I wasn't expecting. It sounds just like a Stingray should, with that that rasp and a real thump in the bass end. Really looking forward to gigging it next weekend!

A And they're not actually that loud.

At the last gig I went to, I got so irritated by a group of morons shouting at one another and ignoring the band (that I, and I assume they, had paid £40 to see) , I told them to shut the F up. This didn't go down well. The main culprit, a speccy wee scrawny guy, bolstered by lager, threatened to thump me. I can't understand why four people, who between them had spent £160 on a night out to see a band, choose to spend the whole night yabbering sh*t to one another and ignoring the band they came to see?

I've got one on order. I'll hopefully get delivery this Saturday.

My favorite string is DR Hi Beams. They're long lasting, with a low-ish tension.

Am I weird because I've never played guitar?
gjones replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
I've been playing guitar almost as long as I've been playing bass. But I never put in the effort to get particularly good at it. It does help me follow guitarist when I don't know the song though, which is handy. I much prefer bass. -
Leo Fender put them there to protect the bass from gamma rays, from outer space.

Many years ago, I was asked if my band would play the Inland Revenue (UK version of the IRS), fraud squad's, Christmas party. I had to turn them down. That would most definitely be 'The wrong crowd' for my then band

In the old days, when my my main income depended on regular paid gigs, I would have jumped at this gig. Luckily these days I can afford to pick and choose who I work with. It would be bad enough playing in a band, with a drummer who played a digital kit, but a band where the singer plays the drums via a shovel? No thanks.

I want to know how you got the word bastard through the profanity filter? Edit: I wonder if I can get the word nasty pasty through it?
