I bought a Fender Rumble 100 V3 recently, secondhand. It cost me £165 and it's incredibly light (you can pick it up with your pinkie). I played through it at a blues gig, in a crowded bar, 3 weeks ago and it kept up with a , reasonably, well behaved drummer, a keyboard player and a guitarist, playing through a 50 watt valve amp. I was told it put out a good bottom end out front. I usually take my GK MB500 and my Barefaced Compact to that gig. It's as small as a practice amp but it's definitely loud enough to gig with.

I used to own an Ashdown EB 150 combo. It sounded great. But they do have a contour switch which removes the mids from your sound and with it all definition (it's for slapping apparently). It also has a deep switch and an octaver control which are both pretty pointless. I used to play with all of these gizmos switched off and the EQ controls at 12 o'clock and it sounded excellent.

There must be something majorly wrong with it. Maybe a pre amp or neck issue?

It depends if I'm being thrown in the deep end or not. 49 gigs out of 50 I won't feel nerves because I'm in my comfort zone but occasionally, usually when I'm depping and am unsure of the songs, I'll feel a bit anxious. I like to feel a bit of nerves, because it shows you're stretching yourself.

There are of course exceptions to that rule

If a band is any good, they will expect to be paid. I therefore must assume that bands that never get paid are just not very good.

I recently put a set of Fender strings on my P bass. They are a bit clanky but I like it. You just have to be a bit more precise in your playing.

No, Whistlebinkies. I played at Stramash last weekend and I noticed the Orange amp was set to Bass off, Mid full and treble off. Just like I'd left it the weekend before.

They replaced a CS pickup which I was get a bit bored with. I like the more defined, rockier feel of these PBXNs. It's sounds like having a P/J bass, without the J. And yes they are very loud. I had to press the active button on my amp so that they didn't distort. I don't even do that with my active bass. Next gig is on Saturday. Can't wait to try them out.

I used one, at a festival I played at a couple of years ago. I wasn't particularly loud onstage but the amp, through an Ampeg 8x10, sounded epic.

I think you may be surprised. The Mexican P bass Deluxe, I played in Guitar Guitar, was right out of the cardboard box (I was there when the assistant cut it open) and it was set up perfectly, with a really low action.

Very nice indeed. I'm seriously thinking of buying the Precision Elite, as I used to have a P/J and they're very versatile. They get great reviews.

It took me 2 years but I finally fitted my Entwistles in my P bass. Nice sound.

The Mighty Mite necks are pretty decent. I would equate them with the neck on a Squier bass. The ones I've bought were Jazz Bass necks and were pretty slim front to back. I've also owned an Allparts Jazz Bass neck and it was substantially chunkier.

I was thinking of buying a USA elite Precision but the only P/J my local Guitar Guitar had in stock was a Mexican P bass Deluxe. I tried it and was blown away with the sound and playability. I had to ask myself why would I want to pay another £1,000, for a US version, when the MiM version is so good?

I always think vintage trouble are trying just a bit too hard.
