  1. I own the 5 string tribute version. Great basses that don't get the love they deserve.
  2. I work for a local authority and you are 100% correct. In my experience, the person who will get the job has already been picked from within the council but the job still has to be advertised to outside candidates, due to regulations.
  3. The sound of the Rhodes on this Turin Brakes track is sublime.
  4. Just email John East. I bought a J-Retro pre amp from him that was faulty (no earth wire attached). I sent it back to him and he repaired it for free. If you've not installed it correctly, he'll advise you what you need to do. Edit: I see you've already emailed him.....my bad.
  5. I think you've confused us with www.asschat.co.uk it's an easy mistake to make.
  6. I always assumed it was a cartel agreement, between the large retailers, that kept prices so similar.
  7. Why not just replace the farting speaker in the practice amp?
  8. Lovely bass at a seriously good price. If I didn't already own 6 Jazzes (including 2 black ones), I'd head over to Paisley and snatch it out of your hands. Have a bump on me.
  9. The MB800 is significantly louder than the MB500 but I've not used it, through the SC, at a really loud gig yet. The last time I played a loud gig, through my own rig, I used the MB800 with my old barefaced Compact. That combination was quite capable of drowning the rest of the band out completely.
  10. Here's a topic i posted on my experience with a SC cab. My Barefaced Compact is much louder, with the same amp. If you're playing with a loud drummer you'll need a hefty head to drive it.
  11. Buying new is a schoolboy mistake which I have to own up to. I bought a new Precision Elite, as I just didn't have the patience to wait until a secondhand one came along on Basschat. Days after I bought it, the marketplace was flooded with the things 😨
  12. For someone who is starting out, flatwounds may be a good idea because they'll get rid of the clank (which you don't want for the crusaders type of sound). But they are expensive and are not really necessary. All you need to do is turn the treble down/tone down and the mid up a bit on your bass.
  13. I think it's good to be critical of your own playing. When I listen back to a recording of my band live, I can usually identify areas that I can improve on; Things like overplaying, when the song needs a simpler line or a lack of energy, when the bassline needs more urgency, for example.
  14. I've seen one of these played live through an amp and it sounded good. Looks the part too.
  15. My Niece's band, Honeyblood, have put out 3 albums since 2014 and have been runners up for the Scottish Album of The Year, twice since then. They've supported many bands, including The Foo Fighters and Garbage and are just about to head off on a headlining UK tour in October.
  16. To be sold at that price at a profit, I assume it is produced in a sweatshop, on the other side of the planet, by 10 year olds, who are paid 50 cents a day. Out of interest, where was this bass manufactured?
  17. I own a planet waves lead that has lasted me about 10 years. The previous one did as well. I estimate that's about 500 gigs per lead. I fold them up, end over end, and then tie them in a loose knot. Supposedly you're not supposed to do that. But my leads last a long, long time. So I'll keep on doing it
  18. I bought an ABM Evo III, for £134 recently, from Ebay. I sold my old one, a few years ago, because I lived in a 3rd floor flat, with no parking. Humping my gear from the car (parked a long way away) up those stairs was a pain. So I bought a tiny GKMB 500, class D head, to replace the Ashdown. Class D are great but comparing the amps side by side, through the same cab, I prefer the ABM. I think it may be the mythical.........HEFT.........I'm hearing.
  19. Bossa Nova covers of Cradle of Filth stuff, does nothing for me. Don't get me started on Ukulele bands covering Slipnot tunes. I think there's a new music genre - Smug Irony.
  20. I've never taken a replacement bass to a gig but nowdays I do take a spare head, just in case.
  21. I have one of these, they're beautiful basses. Good luck with the sale.
  22. I'm in a band, formed by the singer and guitarist, who are married. When I joined the guitarist told me a long story, about how he sacked the old keys player, when he found out he had depped for another band. What a total d*ckhead! I had great pleasure telling him that I'd be playing with two other bands as well as his, occasionally, and he better get used to it. That was 15 years ago and he hasn't sacked me yet.
  23. Very good prices. I wonder why they're flogging them so cheap?
