One excellent side-effect of good bank holiday weather... everybody's having days out, so there was a really short queue for petrol at Costco. 134p a litre, get in

Overheard an exchange earlier between a man and his very young daughter, in a supermarket car park:
Man: we're just going to wait here for a while.
Daughter: why?
Man: because mummy's in the shop.
Daughter: why?
Man: she's buying some chocolate.
Daughter: why?
Man: because she needs some.
Daughter: why?
Man: *laughs*
It was a laugh that said "when you have your own bloody children, you'll know". -
Please keep your fingers crossed for my cat. Having ultrasound on a big lump.

Pure Mania (1977), V2 (1978), Guilty (1982), Alaska 127 (1984), Fifth Amendment (1985), Recharged (1988), etc. This concludes today's Vibrators update.

Putting together a neo-prog covers project with my guitarist mate @Witters. I thought it'd be hard to find personnel but he already has keen interest from a drummer and a keys player. We're thinking Porcupine Tree, It Bites, Quantum Pig, Fish, Frost*, Steven Wilson, Hogarth-era Marillion... I'm quite excited by this.
-
I knew it was to good to be true. Drummer has announced that he can't rehearse the same night as everyone else, and doesn't want to do any covers but wants to do original material. None of us have ever met, never mind played together, but already he's diving straight into compositions. Surely it'd be better to do one cover to start with, to make sure we all get on and are capable? We've got to walk before we can run.

Radio 2 really is the perfect early morning listening...
...'cos if there's one thing guaranteed to get me up and at 'em, out of bed and away from the alarm, it's Zoe fecking Ball's vacuous yakking and her incessant, relentless bloody Strictly fixation.
SHUT. UP.

Thurs morning quiz is good, but I find ZB a tad overly excitable for a morning show, which is strange as I liked Chris Evans when he did the morning show and he`s no sloth in those areas. But imo Radio 2s gems are Ken Bruce & Sara Cox (and used to really enjoy the late night shows with Huey Morgan and Ana Matronic on the way home from gigs).

Ska band's gig next Saturday is at a Conservative Club. Hmm, well a payday's a payday I suppose. Anyway... I've bought a special shirt for the occasion.

@2pods but that would involve me a} buying a Liverpool shirt and b} wearing a Liverpool shirt.

Ska band's xmas gig this coming Saturday. Been sold out for ages.
Rhythm guitarist has just tested +ve.
BoIIocks.

Spotted a really handsome P copy on my local Farcebook marketplace... nice purple finish with only a couple of minor dings, maple neck, on close viewing the action looked pretty low which was a good sign, and very cheap too... so I thought I'd get it as a possible base for modding... send a message... I missed it by 10 minutes apparently 😭

Suggested a new song to the ska band earlier ("She's Kerosene" by The Interruptors). Sax player said she doesn't want to do it because there are no "nice chords".
WTF is a 'nice' chord?
-
That disappointing moment when a name bassist whom you befriended and greatly admired chooses to belittle you on Farcebook when you take issue with their alarmist vaxx-skeptic views.
Closing that door with a heavy heart.

The Commitments on BBC2 now.

Totally worth watching just for Maria Doyle Kennedy's sultry, wonderful performance of "Never Loved A Man".

The DR Black Beauties on my ska Jazz (not for much longer) are the worst strings I think I've ever used. The G was dull straight out of the pack, the replacement string I eventually got was the same, and they're going dead already after just two rehearsals. And they sound crap too. The only thing in their favour is that they look good. New set of Elixirs in the post as I write.

I absolutely love them. Use them on all my fave basses. Really surprised to read this. I also like that they retain their tone for so long and last ages with little tarnishing. All a matter of personal choice of course and Lord of the strings is a kosher provider I guess. They defo look cool too (I know I am a tart ha ha)

The famous 'This England' speech from Shakespeare's Richard II is much beloved by demented flagwavers:
"This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm,
This England."How many of them know that the speech continues thus:
"This dear dear land is now leased out
Like to a tenement or pelting farm:
England, bound in with the triumphant sea
Is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds:
That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself."Shakespeare knew.

The latest Coke TV ad uses a new version of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want To Make Love To You" recorded by Joséphine de la Baume. It is so bad, it makes me wish I hadn't bothered cleaning my ears out. It's straight in at #2 with a bullet on my 'Things That Make Me Scramble For The TV Mute Button' list (the #1 spot is permanently occupied by the Marc Jacobs 'Daisydaisydaisydaisy' advert).
-
I don't know why they do it. I suppose it could be a negative reinforcement thing - I would rant at the telly whenever that Tui ad came on with the feckless, insipid, breathy cod-swing version of Chaka Khan's glorious "Ain't Nobody", but the upshot of my ire is that I will never book a holiday with Tui. Ever. But then it was fairly unlikely I would have done before they pushed my blood pressure up several notches...

The only thing worse than going home from a holiday, is going home from a holiday on the day the bloody sun finally comes out. #raingod

There’s a nightingale singing outside my bedroom window. Oh, glorious.

These bloody celebrity gardeners are all liars. I saw one a while back advising us that horse manure would make strawberries tastier and more juicy. In reality, it does nothing to improve them at all.
I'm going back to double cream and I'd advise everyone else to do likewise. -
Things you get told on Facebook groups:
Apparently, saying that I wouldn't shed any tears if a pair of child torturers/murderers got the sht kicked out of them in prison actually makes me a worse person than the two killers themselves.
Blimey. All this time I thought I was a bit of a bleeding-heart pinko lib, but it seems I'm an absolute rank amateur.

@Rich I'm 100% with you mate, in fact I would go further and actually offer to kick the sht out of them.

This just popped up on my feed. I'm not a golfer, but even if I was, I don't think I'd be in a rush to play this course...

This morning my laptop has refused to communicate with tinternet for some reason. This is quite serious as it means I can't connect to the office servers and will therefore be unable to do any work today (phone is ok hence this post). I've tried everything I can think of but unfortunately even after much swearing and bashing of keys...
...it's started working perfectly.
Damn. *puts bass down again*

Today is a very, very good day.
(for non-musical reasons)

Today's sudden and ludicrous earworm is... the soundtrack from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. WTF?

Tonight's rehearsal and Friday's gig cancelled. Singer has tested +ve.
