2.
Latest addition to the (now Roscoe only) family…
So what happened to the Spitfire and the RIM? Or have I been asleep and missed something..?
  3. No, i meant successful players who seem to revel in their inability to play. I get angry with players who are proud of being really crap and seem determined to stay that way, yet still end up as successful 'musicians'.
  4.
My underlying point was that musicians are often willing to listen to and pick up things from someone with great technique even if the music isn't to their tastes, and then go on to integrate that technique into their own music in a way they do like. Not just a case of "Ooh, look at the freak show".
Excellent point well made sir.
  5.
When you see bassists who haven't spent hours and hours working on fringe techniques like slapping become successful, are you jealous of them?
Not at all, no. Should i be? However, if we change the wording slightly...
When you see bassists who haven't spent any time working on anything and almost seem to revel in their lack of ability become successful, are you jealous of them?
Hell yes. Actually, not so much jealous as angry.
  6.
As far as I'm concerned, anything less than 19mm is "narrow" and anything less than 17.5mm is "unplayable".
Yup, me too. I wouldn't even consider a 5 with less than 19 at the bridge. And I have small hands and very short fingers too. Don't write off a wide spacing just because you think it'll be uncomfortable. You might be surprised.

  11. John's right; if we had a tenner for every time we'd received a complaint along the lines of "{user} has hijacked my FS thread and is wrecking my chances of a sale, can you have a word please?", then our secret mountaintop headquarters would have a lot more priceless works of art on the walls than it currently does. This is precisely why the rule exists, and to be honest I can't see why it's such a contentious one. All it means is writing a PM rather than a public post.
  12. OK, so whatever happened to this book?? Last heard from over a year ago! There's still a waiting list as far as I'm aware.
  13. I've sung lead and BVs in a number of bands over the years so I don't find it too difficult (although as has been said, it depends on the complexity of the bass part). The really difficult thing is talking and playing... It's taken years but i'm finally getting to grips with it.

  16. A gorgeous Pangborn Warlord back in '86. Beautiful bass, stunning sound. Mind you, if i'd bought that, I wouldn't have ended up with my Wal
  17. Parcelfarts make the Keystone Kops look like a model of efficiency. I wouldn't use them if they were the last couriers on earth.

This, to me, equates to self-indulgence, and to heck with the audience.
Just a quick question, as I'm genuinely interested to know. Yes he's certainly looking at the neck, but what is it about the pic that convinces you he's staring at it? For all we know, that could quite easily have been the first time he looked at it all night.
  21. Oh god... my favourite off-the-peg 5 stringer by a country mile... Richard you don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it, don't want it, don't need it, can't afford it *rocks back and forth in seat*

    Pod Question

I debuted my Jack Bruce sound last night at blues rehearsal... played the intro to 'Badge', and everyone turned and gaped at my rig and went "What the fack is THAT?!!??". I think they liked it Made all the tweaks worthwhile!
  23. Saturday night at the Queen Vic in Stroud with my soul-pop covers band. Place was rammed but they couldn't have been less interested if we'd hung up a big sign saying 'PLEASE IGNORE US'. More life in a tramp's vest, etc. Miserable tossers like that don't deserve live music. Well worth the long trip up the M5, that was.
  24.
There is absolutely nothing worse than desperately needing a piss mid gig.
You have obviously never walked down Bedminster High St on a Saturday afternoon

    Pod Question

I sold off all my individual stomps to get an XT Live and have never looked back. I'm still getting to grips with it really but so far it's great. I'm quite happy with the choruses personally, they're perfectly good for live work. Likewise the fuzzes/dists, although I'm tending to go more with the amp models for those. I've managed to get the autowah/Qtron patch set up with no noticeable bass drop, using the EQ. The synth patches are terrible however. But if I ever need a synth sound, I'll dig out the Deep Impact again I'd take this thing over an ME50B any day, I tried one of those and thought it was utter bollocks to be honest. But hey, we all like different stuff (see any Dream Theater or Level 42 thread for details ). It's brilliant being able to go from flat to Jack Bruce to Jamerson to Bootsy at the touch of a button. Love it!
