1. Anyone who calls playing bass their dayjob and makes a comfortable living from it. I'm jealous of them all.
2. £12.50 plus the cost of the train means that I'd better start saving now...
3. Slightly OT but on the subject of being hit by women... A guy I used to know was out with his wife one night in Bristol… as they were walking past a group of blokes, one of them bumped into him; as he turned to say 'excuse me' this bloke smacked my mate and put him on the deck. They walked off into a nearby pub. My mate's wife helped him up, made sure he was ok, and then said "Right, wait here"... she marched into the pub, went up to the bloke who had smacked her husband, tapped him on the shoulder, and when he turned round she punched him hard enough to put him on the floor. She's about 5' 3" and maybe 8 stone soaking wet, and she decked this idiot in front of all his mates. I suspect he will never, ever live it down.
4. Rackmount amplifiers with the power switch on the BACK. Thus meaning that you've got to go shoving your arm into the back of your rackcase like Herriot up a cow in order to get the thing powered up.
5. I play a 5 all the time these days, and yes I use the B a lot. I haven't gigged a 4 for about 7 years now. I don't feel that one is necessarily better than the other, it's just what I personally want to use. I don't feel the need to justify my more-then-4 choice and if anyone wants to look down their nose at me, that's fine, go ahead. Whatever floats your boat. But the sad fact is that threads like this always end up as some sort of pissing contest, and to be honest it bores the life out of me. Life is too short for pointless snobbery, inverted or otherwise.
6. Aw man, that sucks. I presume the rest of you will be 'having a word' with her at some point? Our gig last night was a good one -- a xmas bash for a load of prison staff. Very swish do at a flashyy venue, easy to see where our tax money is going. What economic crisis? Still, it was good for a 'corporate', they were up and dancing all night and even wanted a bunch of encores. And i bumped into an old mate i'd lost touch with, a really good drummer i played with some years back. So that was a nice bonus.
7. Another Yam owner here. Mine's an RBX765A that John Shuker defretted and to which I fitted a big chunky bridge. Makes a great fretless bass, tons of mwah. Did Yam ever make an 'official' f/less RBX five?
8. Headlessness. Kubicki Factor's D-extension. Ned Steinberger's original curved body design for Spector. The chromatic tuner. Straplocks. Switched mode power supplies.
9. Never again shall I complain about a couple of poxy blisters or a spot of tennis elbow.
10.
How am I going to sell it on here now
Not all in block caps, ideally
11. I bought and made one of these a few years ago, as an attempt to boost the output level of some very weedy pickups... it worked quite well, although it didn't need to be turned up very far before the output became extremely high Would this work for piezos? I too am thinking of fitting a piezo bridge to a future project.
12. Richard you do NOT want this beautiful bass, you can NOT afford it. I do NOT want this bass I can NOT afford it I do NOT want this bass I can NOT afford it I do NOT want this bass I can NOT afford it I do NOT want this bass I can NOT afford it I do NOT want this bass I can NOT afford it I do NOT want this bass I can NOT afford it no no no no NO... *stabs self repeatedly with biro*
13.
It was just one of those times when everything just clicks, great tone, felt free in my playing, the whole band was nailing it.......loved it
Yup, couldn't have put it better myself. Oh how i love times like those.
14. Belting night at The Globe in Cardiff. Top quality skanking support from Tattsyrup, an excellent FOH sound from the house engineers, good crowd up and dancing from the 'g' of go, went mental for everything we played. Fresh strings on the Shuker, played through the full Genz+Nemesis rig, sounded utterly beautiful.
15. After years of fruitlessly trying to sound like other people, I now sound exactly like me. And I'm very happy with that.
16. Because they're overpriced on eBay..?
17. Well it's decided one thing. The next one of us who starts up a band has got to call it The Tims.
18. http://bristol.gumtree.com/bristol/14/68613314.html "Island Audio are a new Bristol quartet (well three-piece currently). We write our songs and its a dynamic mix of indie/post-punk/electro/shoegaze. We urgently need a bassist to join the gang so we can play some gigs, have some fun and finish work on our album which we have been recording ourselves and plan to release in early 2011. We have gigs pending and other opportunities awaiting. So if you're male or female, 24-34, with decent equipment, dedication, enthusiasm and ideas please get in touch. No timewasters! We have some rough recordings up at www.myspace.com/islandaudioband and will post some newer studio efforts soon. thanks - Island Audio." If you're interested, either reply to the Gumtree ad or give me a shout, and I can put you in touch with them.
19.
George Porter Jr.
At last. Christ, I was starting to wonder if this guy was ever gonna get a mention.
20. I'm hoping my Wal Pro IIE will turn out to be a good investment. I paid £330 back in 1986, I think it might be worth a bit more than that by now
21. I paid £120 for my BTB406. Find me a better 6 stringer for that price and win a prize It's a superb instrument.
22.
I first saw Janek doing a Bass Player Live clinic on YouTube with the late Hiram Bullock. I thought his groove was amazing. I love the muted sound he gets with his thumb.

Anyway, i have rambled long enough, and some of the above is probably Hiram Bullocks.
See what I did there? Aww c'mon gimme a break, it's still early.
23. Thanks for the heads-up Mr. Corpse it looks dodgier than a £5 necklace in a pub car park. I'm going to move this to the ebay Links section.
