1. Some of the Tobias Pro basses were absolute belters. I had a sixer that was beautiful, wish I hadn't flogged it. The pickups can be weedy, but 275 is an absolute bargain. Lovely bit of flame in that body wood too. Looks like a great bass for little money.
  2.
3 bass-schecter diamond,ibby800 and my P copy....no band due to bein crap.
Crapness is but a state of mind. Get thee to a band, sir, it'll do you the world of good
  3. I've played fives since 1993 or so, and do so pretty much exclusively these days. I'm sure it could easily be argued that I don't NEED that 5th string. But I prefer having it, and I use it so much that I voted 'Yes'.

Agreed, a good low wattage iron is all you need for wiring. Gas irons are really useful though, and if yours has actually melted I reckon it could be faulty -- I have a trusty old Antex Gascat 75 which has certainly never got anywhere near melting, even after protracted use. Have you had it long? Might be worth taking back if not.
  5. I was in a blues-rock trio many years ago, was an absolute hoot and I really miss it. Gary Moore's back catalogue is worth raiding, I always particularly liked playing 'Walking By Myself'. Also how about ZZ Top's 'I Need You Tonight'? Very chilled out, and a great excuse to drop D Yeah yeah, it's not Proper Blues, but who cares as long as it's fun?
  6. You could always wait for an Epi Bird to turn up on eBay for 'spares or repair', with the usual broken-headstock problem. There was one the other day, can't find it now so it might have ended.
  7. That's a cracking bass tone, really brutal. Just a shame about the rest of the song... oh dear, what a fearful racket.
  8. If you can find it, Jonas Hellborg's 'Elegant Punk'.

I've merged the two DIY Effects threads together and stickied them.
  10.
What actually makes a keeper is an emotional attachment.
Both my keepers are. The Shuke was made for me and is like an extension of my body (you, boy, stop sniggering at the back) -- the Wal I've had for 25 years this year, was my first really good bass, almost like a first love, and we've been through a lot of sh*t together. EDIT: oh christ, now I'm starting to sound like a bloody Country & Western song.
  11. I have two absolute keepers... my Shuker and my Wal. If I was sleeping on a park bench I would consider selling one of them, but I'd probably sell a kidney first.
  12. I've been lucky too, over the years all the drummers I've played with have been really nice guys, they've all been good and one or two have been astonishing. There's nothing quite like the feeling of locking in with a good drummer... Getting a groove going, feeling it drive along, sharing a quick glance and knowing exactly where that fill is going and nailing it perfectly... Nothing makes a band sound really tight quite like a good close Engine Room. Damn, I love my job
  13.
Hey Rich - do you want to play his Shuker that is here in Cardiff - or the Fender? Ros Mrs Old Git
Thanks Ros, I would be honoured to do so. I'll give you a call.
  14.
I mean a bass clinic can you think of anything more dull?
Depends if you're one who enjoys, or sees the value in, bass clinics.
  15. Well it's the thought that counts Al, and that's a lovely one. I'd have been proud to have played it.
  16.
God the playing in that video is abysmal - reminds me of me aged 17....
Yes, that is rude. Keep such comments to yourself. eh?
  17.
I've thought that actually! Now with locks 'n blocks
Blocks?? How? Oh god. A white one just became even harder to resist.
  18. I would endorse Jon Shuker's basses and Genz-Benz amps in a heartbeat, and never use anything else ever again. Generally, if I endorsed a product I would feel honour bound to use it exclusively.
  19.
I for one could`nt give a toss if he is fasionabubble or not i think he is great bass player and done some great stuff over the years.
+1. I don't care how naff he's supposed to be, some of his albums are among my absolute favourites of all time.
  20. Oh yes, it's a belting bass part. Love it. I hope you've got a good vocalist
  21.
Ill make sure plenty of pics get taken for you Rich, I was gonna ask you which Charity Si would have donated the profit to
Thanks matey Charity-wise, the Samaritans are a safe bet.
  22.
Titebond should see you nicely. Just remember to clamp it up firmly.
Agreed. I used Titebond 3 to mend some garden furniture last year. It is ridiculously powerful stuff. Sets harder than Araldite.
  23.
Anyone know how to get the Maple FB option??
If you find out how, please let me know. At that point, it will become completely irresistible.
  24. Oh hells bells... a 5-string PJ like that one, in the same candyapple red, would be enough to see my Status up for sale...
  25.
Won't you get a better sound out of the kettle by using a good instrument cable?
If you use one of those audiophile £2000 mains leads, it even makes your tea taste better.
