an 18", a 12" and a selectable HF horn in the same cab. I reckon that's the panacea speaker - covers everyone's frequency response needs (it'll handle dub thumps up to blistering high end slapping)
+1 to this general idea. Like an SWR Triad only even better. And lighter.

My 2nd bass was a Columbus J. Don't know what the body was made of, but the bound/block neck was lovely and it sounded really good. I wired up a series/parallel switch and it got even better. Lent it to a 'friend' who promptly left town with it. Mike Hague, I hope it electrocuted you.

Welcome aboard Stunning instrument. The quilt catches the light beautifully, it looks about a mile deep.
hi everyone im currently learning pee wee ellis the chicken (jaco version) and just wondered what best the approach was?
Play along to a cluck-track and don't try to over-egg it. Sorry. I couldn't help it.

Top 3 bass shop tryout riffs - they're looking at you and waiting!
Rich replied to lowdowner's topic in General Discussion
When I was younger (so much younger than today), if I asked to try out a bass and the assistant insisted on showing off all his slap chops before handing it to me, I used to take great delight in playing two notes, saying "nah, don't like it mate" and giving it straight back. These days I don't bother going into 90% of music shops, because I've usually got better bass gear than they have -
I agree with these two gents. Yamaha got the TRBs pretty much spot on.

Deal breakers for me, as with many others, would be: fat neck, tight string spacing at the bridge, neck dive, excessive weight. Any of these would see me putting it straight back down again. Colour is a factor too, but to a lesser extent. Hardware is easily changed, so not a problem if the rest of the instrument is perfect.
I would like to see a picture of you with a 3/4 sized/other short scale bass if any such photos exist
A photo exists somewhere of our 6'5" alto saxist playing the MD's curved soprano sax. Truly hilarious to behold
I bought copper shielding foil from this guy on ebay. I shielded the scratchplate (I didn't bother shielding the cavity) and it got rid of any buzz from my Precision. I used conductive paint, rather than copper foil, to shield my Jazz and that did the trick. He sells both http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/jeremycharlest/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2654
Would aluminium paint work?

I always found the Jam's "Down In The Tube Station At Midnight" very powerful. The line 'They took the keys, she'll think it's me' sends a shiver down my spine, and not a nice one.
Isn't it odd, I can't stand them - or Hendrix, just so you can hate me more :-)
Not just you. Going to a Stones gig would be my idea of a night in Hell. I loathe everything about them (except Munch).
I can't think of a better way to spend $450.00.
I'm struggling to think of a worse one. Ah well, vive le difference as they say in Putney.
There was a point in the vey late eighties/early nineties, when I definitely remember Wal customs being advertised in Loot, or the back pages of Sounds for around £400. Perhaps this thread needs its mirror - "Basses you seriously should have bought"....
I paid £330 for my Pro 2E in 1986. Needless to say, I still have it and it's going nowhere -
Tech 21 MIDI Mouse if you can find one at a sensible price. Small and delightfully simple.

Sold my Status to Steve about 3 hours ago. A pleasure to do business with.

Up for sale is my '94ish Status Series 1 5-string 'thru neck' (to be entirely accurate, it's actually a set neck, but Status called it a thru-neck). The stock black hardware has been replaced with gold bits & pieces (individual bridge units, Yamaha tuners, control knobs, and Schaller straplock buttons). And I've fitted a homemade ramp, which is only stuck on with carpet tape and is very easily removed – I will take it off if the buyer requests it. A brand new battery will be fitted upon sale. Aesthetically, it's not in showroom condition by any stretch: there is a sizeable ding on the bottom edge of the body for example (see pic), and the Status logo has worn off the pickups (well, it wore off one so I erased it from the other as it looked silly). There was also a crack in the headstock (see pic) but this has been filled with Titebond glue and is no longer an issue other than cosmetic. Overall though, it's in pretty decent nick for a 21 year old workhorse. Soundwise – well, it's a Status and sounds like one. Not as glassy as the carbon models, and I think better for it. It's got the same signature sounds but more rounded and warm. It can still do bright in-yer-face slap if you want it to though. The 2-band eq is very effective – the 'bright' switch in particular is very good for breathing a bit of life back into tired strings. This bass has done me proud in the nearly 10 years that I've owned it and has never let me down, and I will be really sorry to part with it. Sadly a need for cash dictates that this has gotta go. No case or gigbag is included, sorry. Cash on collection is preferable, paypal gift is acceptable. Because of the inherent risks with couriering guitars, this is purely COLLECTION ONLY, ideally from Chippenham/Swindon. I'm prepared to travel within reason, Reading or Bristol for example. PM me for other location queries and maybe we can arrange something. But I will NOT courier it – I've seen far too many horror stories (OldGit's Hohner, for example). Sorry. As you can see from this original ad, the street price was a fairly substantial £899 when new in 1994/95 (the equivalent of £1560 now!!) so I'm asking what I think is a bargain price of £450.I'm after a sale only, so no trade offers please. Please give it a good home.
