1. I like Sting and I always have done. I like his voice, I like his music (well, most of it), and I love his playing. I don't care how supposedly naff he is or how much the media like to poke fun. I like and respect him as a musician. So there.
  2.
I may have shot my load to soon
This forum has a wealth of info and advice on basses, but I doubt very much we could help you with that... Welcome, by the way.
  3. I noticed a 3500 head went on fleaBay the other day for £100..!! If that isn't the performance bargain of the decade, I don't know what is.

  5. Just too far for me. Have a good time if you're going.
  6. The Nightfly. Again. For about the four millionth time. Don't care, I still love it. Next up: 'Bel Assis', Mo Foster. Criminally underrated album.
  7.
it's 'an enormous pickup'!

i have the biggest pickup...
Oh dear... pickup envy, it's quite tragic.
  8. Stanley Clarke's little arsenal on page 28... the three on the front row are without doubt the ugliest instruments I have ever seen in my life. They make Wishbasses look positively desirable. If I was Stan I'd keep them in a cupboard or something. Having said that, I can't actually make basses myself, so perhaps I shouldn't criticise them...
Shocking and sad news, I only met Si once when a few of us got together when Enrico visited from W&T. He was the kind of guy you just liked from the word go, very warm and big hearted. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP Simon
How typical of him to be wearing the biggest smile in the room

I've taken the step of moving the thread out of off-topic, so that non-OT browsers can see it too.
  11. Yup, that sounds like a good order to me. One of my absolute favourite tracks is 'Roots (Back To A Way Of Life)' from 100º And Rising... fabulous classic funk everything-on-the-1 groove, with Randy Hope-Taylor on the bass.

Don't get carried away chaps, next Wednesday is only the 25th. You've got to wait till the week after next.

    Octave

I bought this Yamaha OC-01 on fleaBay for absolute peanuts a while back. It is utterly brilliant, probably the best tracking of any octaver I've had and a great smooth sound. The Korg OCT-1 is identical in every way except name. EDIT: there's one here, it's already going for more than I paid for mine..!

Gents, I have an update: Si's funeral will be at Canford Crematorium, Canford Lane, Westbury On Trym, Bristol BS9 3PQ at 12 noon on Wednesday 1st September and afterwards at his sister's house -- PM me if you want the address. I am told that friends are welcome both at the service and the wake. Let me know if you intend to come along. It would be good to see you, and to get together and raise a BC glass to the old fella. Awaiting details for a charity for any donations in memory of Si.
  16. The best P bass money can buy is the one that, when you play it, makes you go "ooh" and come over all unnecessary more than any other. Could be a Lakky, could be a Celinder, could be a MIM.
  17. Thumptastic! What a glorious piece of work. Just don't take it outside when it's snowing, or you'll never find it. Congrats.
  18.
Without pictures it won't have happened
Damn right. Although from what I've seen on telly, naturists are very often either emaciated lunatics or sagging wolfhounds.
  19.
Move on man... Don't worry about it. I got the sack from a band when they landed quite a considerable support slot with a notable band on their big comeback tour. They decided they wanted to get their friend back in (who had quit the band and led to me being auditioned to join) incase they hit the big time. They played the gigs, nobody cared, nobody has heard from them since.
I believe this is what they call 'poetic justice'

A few more pics to hopefully help remember him with a smile: Those trousers are a fashion statement. The statement reads: "I bought these at gunpoint". 'Roundabout'? More of a staggered T junction ALERT! ALERT! IMMINENT CREDIBILITY FAILURE!
  22. Yes, incredibly it's still going. Not for much longer though.
  23. Yes. Yes. Curse you, sweet soft cookies, with your heavenly chewiness and your bits of chocolate and stuff, for you have taken my waist from a 34 to a... well, rather more than a 34.
