1. I agree about those mad blue LEDs too -- faaaaar too bright. I wish there was some way of taming them a bit.
2.
i'd like your Shuker. was that a 5?
Yup, my Shuke is a 5, and you can have it if you like. A certain amount of prising open of cold dead hands would be required, however Might be worth having a word with Jon though, & see what your grand will get.
3. You could do a lot worse than this very nice Lakky DJ5. I'd have it myself if I had the moolah.
4. Yay for small stacks. Shuttle 6.0, two Nemesis 1x15s, total rig weight just over 70lbs. The only thing stopping me from carrying the whole lot in one go is the lack of a third arm
5. I bloody hope so. Ungrateful twonk.
6. Yeah. Fancy us being taken in by the evil old Flowers man and his wickedness.
7. Well... if you're the sort of person who likes bass solos, then yes there have been lots of good ones. If you're the sort of person who doesn't like bass solos, then no.
Tony Grey's solo in the extended version of summer rain featuring the Hiromi Trio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL14_nd2C2Q
That is glorious. Melodic, not overly flashy, just fabulous.
8.
There can only be one prototype. A prototype is the first and original design of what all other designs follow on from. There cannot possibly be two.
Well, Fender themselves would seem to disagree with you there... photo caption from their website: "Close-up of a 1959 Jazz Bass prototype shows the soon-discarded soapbar pickup." So if Fender reckon there was more than one prototype of their own product, that's good enough for me. And if Herbie Flowers says he bought his bass in 1959, that's also good enough for me. When comes down do it, what the f*** does it really matter? It's still the bass (and the bassist) on Space Oddity, Walk on the Wild Side, War Of The Worlds, Diamond Dogs...
9. That Coppolo's tone is to die for. Absolutely gorgeous, and so very high in the mix! Wonderful stuff. Is there any way of ripping the audio out of this? I'm having no luck in saving the video file either.
10.
I'm looking for something that have 21-24 fret
With how many strings?
11. Well of course you passed, we never doubted you would for a second. Well done!
12.
My first proper head was that and i loved it, but it just weighed so much.
Yup. The weight is the one single solitary thing I dislike about it.
13. Having read Shrek's post about his underperforming Warwick head, I thought I'd post a little something in praise of the ancient but still completely trusty Hartke 3500 head I bought from Brycebites (remember him? wish he was still here) many years ago, and which I use for rehearsals and small gigs. Christ, it's loud. I mean, really. If I use it with one of my 8Ω Nemesis cabs it's supposedly only delivering 180 watts, but good god it delivers it well. And with both cabs, it's fackin huuuuge. Sometimes I think about flogging it and getting something else, but then I think... why? It definitely ain't broke, so why try to fix it? It's great. Anyone else got some Hartke lurrrve?
14. With regard to the licensing/frequencies thingy... how is this likely to affect the older VHF units? My old AKG SR100 -- picked up for peanuts off fleaBay, and absolutely brilliant -- is trundling along nicely on 175.0MHz, but what's going to happen?
15.
As for Mark's sound on Ohne Filter... well, he was going through an Ashdown.
16. Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue". That clarinet intro...
17. If it's old skool funk, got to be a J/P/Ray I reckon.
18.
New band or piccolo bass? Or, of course, do a Dood and go lower still.
Hey, it's the SallyDoodle nearly-twins lovely to see them again.
19. Ahhh, Dequssy. This is one of my favourite pieces of qlissed-out piano music. It is so qeautiful that it always gives me goosequmps and qrings a tear to my eye... unfortunately said tear has fallen from my eye and into my keyqoard where it seems to have caused a qit of a fault, in that every time I press the 'q' key it comes up as 'q'. So thanks a qloody qunch.
20. List bump: Baboom MacDaddy Mickeyboro OG Skinz molan
21.
School stage, lunchtime "concert"
snap
House of the Rising Sun, Noname semi, tastefully decorated in hippy swirls of humbrol paints for airfix airplane kits.. Through a Baker "DIY" 30 watt all valve amp and home made 1x15 cab. I was 13
In my case, the song was the Quo's 'Caroline' played on my '64 Höfner Artist II (bought from metalwork teacher for £20) through a DIY 50w amp made with help from physics teacher, plus home-made 1x15 cab borrowed from same metalwork teacher. I still have the Höfner
22. Squier HM 5, a bit like this but with 5 strings. Not a truly dreadful bass really, but the tone was somewhat lacking and the string spacing was too tight. And it had a stupid pointy headstock, which I hate. Was a good introduction to 5 strings though.
23. Yup, more love for synth bass here too. I used to have an old Roland SH-09 monosynth, made some wonderful phat pharty sounds... wish to christ I'd never got rid
24. Jakko Jakszyk's "Bruised Romantic Glee Club". Absolutely wonderful.
