Ashdown MiBass

I sincerely hope it's kinder to the bass's sound than the Freebass was...

Tobias Bass

That's one of the Korean-built 'Pro' Tobias basses (or 'Toby' as they later became called). I had one of these. A lovely bass, some nice woods (the body wings on mine appeared to be solid birdseye maple) and neck-through construction, lovely playable neck, the instrument marred only by very average hardware, a not-particularly-great eq/preamp, and the world's most feeble pickups. Give it a good bridge, a decent preamp and some EMG-40P pickups and it'd be utterly brilliant. Secondhand values tend to be 300-400 ish. Bloody wish I hadn't sold mine.
8.
When you start out playing gigs you take hardly anything. The amount of stuff you take gradually increases as the gigs get more important and you get paranoid about; what if this happens, what if that happens. Then as the years go by you realise, if you have good gear, stuff just works like it should and you cut right back down to bare essentials.
Well I'm certainly not paranoid, I've been playing for 20+ years, and I have bloody good gear. Doesn't stop me from taking a pretty comprehensive toolkit with me (although like Mr. castle, all my tools are in one place so some of them are just along for the ride really ). And most of my band have been glad of it at one time or another... if I had a quid for every time I've heard "Rich, have you got your allen keys/tiny screwdrivers/superglue/flux capacitor with you..?". Especially guitarist John, on whose creaking old amp we performed major surgery during the support band's set at one major gig...
9. Damn, you took the words right out of my mouth there. I certainly don't advocate burying onesself under a mountain of credit cards and unsustainable debt, but surely some credit is unavoidable, e.g. the aforementioned mortgage?

12. ...and, to be honest, so personally subjective as to be worthless for anything other than to create disagreement. It must be a slow news month. And if I was compiling the list, I wouldn't have put a Rick in the top 650.
13. Noooooooooooooooooo Or at least, wait till I've got the shekels to take it off your hands*. I would dearly love this. * this would take months, unfortunately
14.
It's not really about making up for a lack of ability, it's about making the noises you want to make. I'm happy with my dry bass sound but I don't always want to sound like a bass guitar, that's all there is to it really.
Nutshell.
15. Orroight me babbers?
16. Oh god my favouritest guitarist in the world is back in the UK and I can't make it. Bum. Have a great time, everybods.
17. They like to have a go... ...and are very often rubbish at it, unless they do it for any length of time. Mind you, I suck on guitar so it sort of evens out.
18.
Ah, well played sir!
No, I disagree. Catching your opponent off-guard and pouncing on the Crescent as the very first move of the game is seriously frowned upon and flouts the spirit of the contest. The last person to try this, a Mr. Kobayashi if memory serves, found himself ostracised for doing this very thing. He ended up in a travelling circus as some sort of freak show, where punters were invited to try to last more than a minute in a game with him and offered the prospect of £25 and a custard doughnut if they managed it. Of course it was all a fix and the Kobayashi Manouvre was employed every time.

20. Nah, give us a full review. Pleasepleaseplease.
21. I've always sung and played, mostly BVs but some lead, so to be honest I find it's second nature these days. Although it does definitely depend on the complexity of the bass part. Quite how Mark King does it sometimes is beyond me -- whether you like his playing style or loathe it, you have to admit that his ability to sing over complex bass parts is second to none. But talking and playing? Forget it. I find it next to impossible.
22.
Someone please tell me this <turdtwister> wasn't the inspiration behind Bernard Matthews Turkey Twizzlers...
Well, the one is about as tasty and nutritious as the other... EDIT: Probably.
23. I've had the Wal since 1986. The only longer relationships I've had are with my parents/family. Partners for life
24. I try not to use the Post Office for anything much larger than a stamp these days. Certainly after what they did to Si's B2A...
25. "Mummy, when I grow up I want to be a bass player." "Don't be silly darling, you know you can't do both." Yup, she's right.
