1.
Okay, this is for a colleague of mine. His son (14) and friends are in a band and they have been picked to play on a minor stage at a small local festival in a 'Battle of the Bands' kind of format. They have been told that they will need to provide their own PA, as last year some of the bands claimed they were not very good because of the provided PA.
After the race, an angry Sebastian Vettel said, "The only reason I was 12th is because I was given blue gloves. I would have won if they had been red."
 2. PRICE DROP NOW £35 EACH OR £65 THE PAIR. P&P included. Up for grabs are a pair of EMG 40-TW pickups, until recently installed in my custom Shuker bass. I would prefer to sell as a pair, but will split if needs be. Operationally they are perfect; physically there are faint signs of wear to the facings (which I will see if I can polish out), and the EMG logos are somewhat faded (some might say this is a good thing!). What you see is what you get, in that the wiring looms end in bare wires and the volume pots are not included. There's not a lot more I can say about them, except to include an excerpt from the EMG site http://www.emgpickups.com/40tw.html: "Inside the 40TW pickup are both single and dual-coil pickups, each with its own output. The single-coil mode is a new version of our J pickup built in the CS (ceramic and steel). The dual-coil mode is our popular CS dual-coil consisting of two coils opposite one another creating a pickup similar to model 40CS. A push/pull volume (or tone) pot allows you to change from the clarity of a single-coil to the fatness of a dual-coil. The 40TW can be used with any of EMG's tone enhancing circuits on either pickup output. This pickup uses a 40 Extended housing that is 4" (102mm)." So there you go. Flexibility and legendary clarity all in the one little package. P&P included. Not really looking for trades, would much prefer a straight sale. PayPal gift is ideal, cheque is ok and pickup(s) will be despatched upon clearance. If you don't trust me, non-gift PayPal is fine too as long as you pick up any applicable fees. 4. SKB's customer service is fantastic.
 5. Took Mark's EBS 212 off his hands earlier, and shared a coffee & a chat. Really nice fella, great doing business with you mate.
 6. As stated, they're both on hold -- one for landwomble and the other for another buyer. I am away from home so I can't arrange dely/collection till next week. I'll update the ad if anything falls through.
 7. I think the neck is definitely later than the serial number date. IIRC the early Pro basses had extra laminates in the headstock, as per the pic. My Pro 2-E has these and it's PB1533. "Early Pro headstocks featured 10 laminations of maple, mukalungu (an Amazonian hardwood) and English hornbeam. In later Pro basses the (purely decorative) outer mukalungu laminates were dispensed with to create an 8 way lamination."
 8.
like a bad Bross record.
That's all of them, surely..?
 9. Half of my entire family tree hails from Essex. I have a silver sleeper in one ear. I swear an awful f***ing lot and drop many, many Ts and Hs. I have a P bass. Am I in?
 10.
Hi all, This is the reply from ParcelForce. I emailed their MD directly. Dear Mr ****** (Stuckinthepod) <snip> Yours sincerely ______________________________________ David Bowles Managing Director’s Office Parcelforce Worldwide Lytham House, 25 Caldecotte Lake Drive, Caldecotte, Milton Keynes, MK7 8LE  01908 687 249 (Fax: 01908 687 101)
"Please be assured however from the action we have taken there will be no future incidents of this nature with deliveries to your premises." "Business as usual for everyone else though."
 11. I've played to audiences of 7 people (including the bar staff) and over 2,000. Apart from the bigger gig being infinitely more fun, there was no difference in terms of nerves.
 12. What a lovely instrument, and a superb restoration. I had an aching desire to own one of these back in the day, and it hasn't diminished over the years. Following this with interest.
 13. One cab now on hold. One still available, at a ridiculous bargain price. 130 quid for a loud and fantastically lightweight 1x15 cab in superb condition? it's a steal.
 14. Looks soooo much nicer than those yellow things.
 15. **SOLD** Up for sale are my two Eden Nemesis NSP115 1x15" cabs. Serial numbers 0603N01xx and 0604N03xx would suggest they were made in March and April 2006. One was bought brand new by me later that year from the Bass Centre in London; the other was a direct swap 2 years later for the NSP210 I bought at the same time. See this thread for the actual deal..! Stock image: Larger factory image on this link. I will try to post pics of my actual cabs if requested, but they don't look any different to these! Original specs:

Handling: 250W RMS
Frequency Response: 38Hz - 18kHz ±2dB
Sensitivity: 100dB SPL@1W1M
Impedance: 8Ω
Dimensions: 24¾" x 17¼" x 16¼" / 630 x 440 x 413mm
Weight: 32 lbs. / 14.5 kg
So as you can see, they are small, light and loud! I've been using them either singly or in a pair with my G-B Shuttle 6.0, but my band's not loud and the amp volume has never been past 4, so the cabs have barely ever broken a sweat. The horn has no attenuator, but personally I have never found this to be a problem. If you find it's too bright, it's a simple job to temporarily disable the horn. Aesthetically, they are in excellent condition with no tears to the carpet on either cab. The grilles are neither scratched nor dented. A few light scuffs to the corners and end handles, as you'd expect really. Functionally they are both perfect. They've served me proud, but a downsizing & a need for cash says they have to go. Cash on collection is preferable, PayPal gift is acceptable. Because of their size and the fact that I no longer have the original boxes, they are purely COLLECTION ONLY, ideally from Chippenham/Swindon. I'm prepared to travel within reason, Reading or Bristol for example. PM me for other location queries and maybe we can arrange something. But I will NOT courier. Sorry. I'm asking what I think is a ludicrous bargain price of £130. This is incredibly cheap so please don't make daft offers. I'm after a sale only, so no trades please. You KNOW it makes sense. G'wan.
 16.
More recently still I popped into Maplins (does anyone else 'pop' these days?) and they had an offer on their own brand version AAs - which allegedly outperformed Duracell in a recent test of some sort. They are nice blue colour and came in a sturdy box, so that was good start.
Excellent. Nothing increases battery performance quite as much as a blue casing and a sturdy box
 17. My favourite story about 10cc is from when they were just starting out, and were playing in a crappy social club one night. The MC gets up to introduce them: "Right, well here's a new young band, not my cup of tea quite frankly but anyway... put yer hands together for EYE-OCK!"
 18.
the mythical massive tray of cheese
If that's not a perfect album title, I don't know what is. Brilliant gig last night at the Tunnels in Bristol. One of their soul/funk nights, huge sold-out crowd up and dancing from the first note. They nearly brought the roof down when we did Uptown Funk. Wonderful night, best I've had in a loooong Tim.
 19. Everything that uses PP3s gets a Procell (or whatever they're called now) fitted. In the past I've had upwards of two years out of them in my Shuker. Now I change them in all my active basses every year whether they need it or not.
 20.
Except that is for The Doors. I think the hatred is worsened by the adulation and worship heaped upon them , particularly Morrison. Gah!
Agreed. Pretentious post-beatnik beard stroking yeah-man nonsense. Bleh.
 21.
the singer throws up in the sink He looks really young too..
Aww bless. I remember my first pint too
 22. I thought Scouting For Girls was a play on Baden-Powell's 'Scouting For Boys' book title? It is a dreadfully naff name, admittedly. I swear as much as the next docker, but I detest band names with profanity in them (that Anal C bunch being a a prime example). Trying faaar too hard to be controversial. "Look at us, we're being rude! *snigger*". Oh, grow up.
 23. As a side question -- a corollary to the original, if you will -- is there a genre of music that you used to hate, but have gradually grown to admire/like/love? Vice versa, do you now loathe something you used to adore? For myself: back in my late teens, I could not stand classical music. Or opera for that matter. Or anything even remotely C&W-ish. But nowadays, people like Shostakovich and Puccini and Brad Paisley are among the staples of my musical diet.
