1.
More recently still I popped into Maplins (does anyone else 'pop' these days?) and they had an offer on their own brand version AAs - which allegedly outperformed Duracell in a recent test of some sort. They are nice blue colour and came in a sturdy box, so that was good start.
Excellent. Nothing increases battery performance quite as much as a blue casing and a sturdy box
 2. My favourite story about 10cc is from when they were just starting out, and were playing in a crappy social club one night. The MC gets up to introduce them: "Right, well here's a new young band, not my cup of tea quite frankly but anyway... put yer hands together for EYE-OCK!"
 3.
the mythical massive tray of cheese
If that's not a perfect album title, I don't know what is. Brilliant gig last night at the Tunnels in Bristol. One of their soul/funk nights, huge sold-out crowd up and dancing from the first note. They nearly brought the roof down when we did Uptown Funk. Wonderful night, best I've had in a loooong Tim.
 4. Everything that uses PP3s gets a Procell (or whatever they're called now) fitted. In the past I've had upwards of two years out of them in my Shuker. Now I change them in all my active basses every year whether they need it or not.
 5.
Except that is for The Doors. I think the hatred is worsened by the adulation and worship heaped upon them , particularly Morrison. Gah!
Agreed. Pretentious post-beatnik beard stroking yeah-man nonsense. Bleh.
 6.
the singer throws up in the sink He looks really young too..
Aww bless. I remember my first pint too
 7. I thought Scouting For Girls was a play on Baden-Powell's 'Scouting For Boys' book title? It is a dreadfully naff name, admittedly. I swear as much as the next docker, but I detest band names with profanity in them (that Anal C bunch being a a prime example). Trying faaar too hard to be controversial. "Look at us, we're being rude! *snigger*". Oh, grow up.
 8. As a side question -- a corollary to the original, if you will -- is there a genre of music that you used to hate, but have gradually grown to admire/like/love? Vice versa, do you now loathe something you used to adore? For myself: back in my late teens, I could not stand classical music. Or opera for that matter. Or anything even remotely C&W-ish. But nowadays, people like Shostakovich and Puccini and Brad Paisley are among the staples of my musical diet.
 9.
Blimey IBTL
I see no need for a lock unless it gets shouty? As long as everyone bears in mind that opinions are like arseholes (we all have one) and that mine is as valid as his, which is as valid as hers, which is as valid etc etc etc, it'll be fine. We're all grownups, right?
 10. Absolutely anything by the Stones. Everything they have ever done. I detest them with a passion and struggle to understand their appeal.
I hate modern-sounding production that pushes everything to 0db and keeps it there. Totally lacking in dynamics and very tiring to listen to.
Agreed 10000%.
 11.
I wonder what the Ashdown clone is like... I suppose if it bursts into flames it'll prove it's an authentic copy...
Genuine LOL
 12.
I can't believe that was 34 years ago......
Thirty four?? Great. Thank you for making me feel about 90 years old.
 13. Strange, Odd, Bizarre
 14. That bottom string is 8mm thick. They use thinner cables than that to berth supertankers.
 15.
do they mash the sound up?
Are there plenty of (Jersey) mids?
 16. I actually play quite lightly, thanks in part to my ramp. And I use nice soft nickel strings too. The only time I have had a blistering problem is when I got my callouses wet and softened.
 17.
The only other thing you can do, besides wiping down the strings after each practice, is to wash your hands before playing.
The last (only) time I washed my hands before a gig, it softened all my callouses and they wore away in minutes. Even after breaking out the superglue my picking fingers still blistered agonisingly. So, never done it since.
 18. This thing is the gift that keeps on giving. I've seen that set of pics so many times, it's starting to feel like an old friend. Or I suppose more accurately, a mysterious smell that won't go away.
 19. Good news!
 20.
I'm still traumatised from a drunk woman hitching her skirt up and sitting on my lap pre-gig! Much to the amusement of my wife!!! We went down well in front of a packed house but the shock! the horror!!!!
If that's the worst thing that ever happens to you at a gig, you'll be a very very lucky man
 21.
a neck like a banana.
Yellow with a squishy centre?
 22. If I was attending an audition, I would dress in whatever I found comfortable (although if I was going straight from work, it'd be work clothes). One of the questions I would ask them during the audition -- 'cos remember, an audition is as much about you testing the band as it is the band testing you -- would be about image and stage clothing. If I didn't like the sound of what I heard and there was no flexibility, I'd say a polite thanks-but-not-for-me either there and then or in emails afterwards.
 23.
Altenatively you could ask the person to stop ruining the gig for you nicely and/or get a steward to have a word.
How does one ruin a gig nicely?
 24. TB says FMIC MIJ RIP? BS IMO, but YMMV.
