Before this thread disappears into a whirl of alleged musical snobbery and confirmational bias (whatever TF that is), just thought it'd be worth mentioning that one of the most oft-quoted criteria mentioned in the 'Requirements for Joining a Band' thread so far is "music that I like/will enjoy playing". Is that 'snobbery' or just personal taste?

I would sooner play Sally or Superstition than Dakota or Sex On bloody Fire any day of the week.

I reckon Sally gets a rough deal. It's not [i]that[/i] bad a tune and the punters love it.

I used Hotwires for quite a while until a spate of QC issues put me off (e.g. the rattly windings as mentioned by JL). Now an entirely convinced Elixir user.

If I walked out on stage starkers, it'd clear the place quicker than a fire alarm.

The money aspect depends on whether you're joining the band primarily to earn a living or have some fun.

Really liked the look of the SRH505 until I saw this in the specs... "16.5mm string spacing" Ugh. Far too cramped.

If the SE-2A is as good as this, it'd be well worth considering.

I've had my Höfner Artist since 1982 (my first bass) and my Wal since 1985.

If you'd explained exactly why you'd done what you'd done to your own flippin bass and stated categorically that it was NOT snobbery, but someone had said that actually yeah it is a bit, and someone [i]else[/i] had said that the only other reason for doing it was fraud, I reckon you'd probably feel slightly miffed too.
