1. Yowch. Nearly 600 quid for the ash fiver now.
2. Yes, I remember The Point fondly. Played there a few times, it was always a good night. Sadly missed. I hope the git who complained has an infestation of fleas.
3. We played a corporate dinner-dance thing in Brighton many moons ago for a company who shall remain nameless -- let's just call them 'Boyal Scank of Rotland'. They paid us handsomely and put us up in a very nice hotel for the night, and it would have been the perfect gig if not for the fact that by the time we went on, the bright young things had been sat on their arses for two hours first with dinner and then second with all the speeches etc... so of course, all they wanted to do was hit the bar. Which was in the room next door. We played our entire set to our WAGABAHs and maybe 3 or 4 of the dinner guests. I looked on it as a well-paid rehearsal and a free weekend away.
4. I've got a Fender decal on my bitsa. I don't care if anyone thinks it's wrong or a lie or whatever, because it's my bass and I'll do what the hell I want with it. So there
5. It Bites. Four years, three fabulous studio albums, and then gone. (nb. Not counting the later reform version, good though it was.)
6. I love his Kirby Dots album. Wonderfully weird in a great way.
7. Some of the guys here who have bought deko basses have got lucky and received perfectly playable basses out of the box. My 20 quid Harley jazz deko had a banana for a neck, so I wasn't so fortunate. For this reason, there is no way I would put down 170 quid on a deko. Too much of a leap of faith for me.
8. If you guys want to have an argument about the definition of bullying, I would strongly suggest that this thread is not the place for it.
9.
I love this forum. So many comments to agree with.............
And an awful lot to look at and think "that's absolute bollocks mate"
10. I really enjoyed Anderson.Paak & the Free Nationals, and Thundercat was good too. Goldfrapp was ok, but I had to try to ignore the dancers. Courtney Marie Andrews was ok and Kasabian were, errm, Kasabian.
If you hear his band playing it makes you wonder if he ever 'got' rock. It doesn't swing either.
If you'd ever seen Jools' big band live, you would know that they can swing like blazes. They are sh*t hot, whatever you might think of their leader.
11.
They were never in a band together...
If they had, it would have ended up like this...
12. I will be astonished if they don't do a 5 string. The fact that they're giving it the Jazz neck means that i will be verrrrry tempted.
13. I've got the original circuit from my Yamaha RBX lurking somewhere. Standard four knob vol-pan-bass-treb active thing. Yours if it would help?
14. I used to use Warwick Reds... looking for a different sound and feel, I made the change to nickels and used Roto RB nickels for a while, then changed to D'Add EXLs. Then last year I decided to experiment with Elixirs to see what the fuss was about, and am now a complete convert. These things are amazing.
15. Ah, 80s synths... love em. Back in '87 my band had two keys players, between them they had a DX7, JX3P, Juno 106 and a PX7 piano. And yes, I played fretless through a chorus on some songs Though I say so myself, we were AWESOME *wistful sigh*
16.
Remember, he's not as good as JS Bite.
Oh well played sir
17. My 'P bass' is a total bitsa with not a single actual Fender part on it apart from the neckplate and some Tele knobs. The neck itself is off a Squier Jazz -- and yes, I have put a 70s Fender P logo on the headstock. For me, it just completes the look of it. Simple as that. The knowledge that anyone might think it a dumb idea will keep me awake tonight for approx 0.001 of a second.
18.
Does anyone know the way? There's got to be a way!
Nope, sorry. We just haven't got a clue what to do.
19. I use a Magna-Cart I bought from Costco. It folds completely flat so it's easy to chuck in the car for gig loadouts.
20. William Ackerman's "The Moment in Which You Must Finally Let Go of the Tether Which Has Held Your Hope Airborne".
21. My Wal cost me £330 in 1986. Thankfully I still have it.
22.
I had to 'reshape' my stands for my 7 string. The neck on my Shuker isn't massive as I use a 16mm spacing, but I had to go to work on my stands by gently opening the hefty metal neck supports. The neck just squeezed in but I knew it was safe. Now I just use those tour stands that allow instruments to slide in sideways instead. This sort of thing:
Yes, I have one of those too. Some of the foam coverings started to perish on mine, so I stripped it off and replaced it with some of that foam pipe-lagging stuff you get from the DIY stores. It works a treat.
23.
Ay up! Found some pennies down the back of the sofa? A 5str maybe or a fretless 4? 😁
Alas no, but I have found a nice big bit of scrap mahogany for his wood store
24.
Had a quick go on the K1 at the SW Bash yesterday. Given the restrictions of having others trying out gear near by, I only got the impression of loads of headroom and tone in such a small package without being able to really let rip. It dwarfed my 802, literally and physically. Had the following all lined up, left to right: 802,Ninja 102, K1, Multiamp and Evo.
Have to say I was very impressed with what I heard of it yesterday. I'd only had limited exposure to Markbass gear before yesterday but it was a bit of an eye opener. Kev tried my Sire V7 through part of his MB armoury and it sounded fantastic.
25.
Reading the thread title I thought Mark King had become a MarkBass endorser...
Wouldn't surprise me. He's a bit of an endorsement tart
