1. I've had a set of Elixirs on my Sire for a couple of months now and they sound perfect. Nice rounded fundamental tone, but plenty of snap and zing when slapped, pulled or digging in.
2. Mike that's amazing. Really above and beyond. If we're talking along the lines of a buffet, I'd be only too happy to bring a foodie contribution along.
3.
Thanks Rich and good luck with the carpals - had mine done 10 yrs ago.
Thanks Mike. I had my right wrist done about 8 years ago and it did the trick, so I'm hoping it'll do the same for my left this time!
4.
auditioning gear in a shop is totally different from playing a gig with a band, plus as wateroftyne said about the honeymoon period, when you've spent good money on gear it takes a while to convince yourself you've made a mistake
I've spent good money on lightweight gear and have convinced myself (I didn't take much convincing) that I am totally happy with my class D amp and neo cab sound. It is entirely possible that a 60lb amp and a 100lb cab might give me a sound that I prefer very slightly, yes. But my 4lb amp and 40lb cab sound so nice that I'm really not bothered enough to find out. I can't see myself even thinking about changing my amp unless a} it dies or b} Trace make a dream come true and produce a small lightweight SMX head. (hint hint)
5. My favourite Chownycolour is definitely the sapphire burst. It looks good in pics, but when you see it in the flesh (well, wood) it is quite stunning.
6. I'm having carpal surgery on 24th Feb so I probably won't be able to play much/at all by then, but if I'm able to drive I'll come along anyway. I'll bring a couple of as yet unlisted geetars that might be of interest.
7. Árstíðir -- Icelandic folksters. Myrath -- Tunisian prog metal. Seriously.
8.
Nik Kershaw is an absolute genius composer. The album Radio Musicola is wall to wall quality.
Mahoosive +1.
9.
IS NO-ONE LISTENING? I said that I don't like flats. I have nickel rounds on any bass with strings! HOWEVER, even though I don't like anything about flats (feel, tension, sound) I do like the 750Ns. Most of the posts here rant about their pet hates with flats. I agree with all of them - that's the whole point. Am I going mad ...
Ah right. Well if you'd said that you were only interested in your own opinion, we wouldn't have bothered. Sorry.
10. Frost* Threshold (although that would cause some confusion, as their keys player has the same name as me!) It Bites
11. I really dislike flats, but in my case it's because of the feel. I hate the smoothness, they feel almost slimy. Weird I know, but they make me want to wash my hands. I'm not happy unless I've got windings under my fingertips. Which is a shame, because flats can sound great.
12.
the sunburst and the matt finish makes it look like someone hoiked it off the assembly line before the last few finishing operations had been done.
As the owner of an exquisite satin-finished, tobacco-sunburst Shuker, I shall endeavour to pretend that I didn't read that.
13. Each to his own. I'd happily give housespace to a well-done relic '65 Jazz, but I'd far prefer the real thing. I agree that some 'heavy relic' jobs just look crap.
I think the OP has a point. It's like vaping or gluten free fad.
Try telling someone with irritable bowel or coeliac disease that gluten free is just a fad...

Bristol Bash

Outstanding go for it!
15. Looks nice, although I'm not wild about the tart's-handbag neck inlay. I'd certainly have a fretted one but without the flowery excess. I love my acoustic bass, Ok so it's not loud enough to compete with an acoustic guitar, but that doesn't bother me. It's fun to just noodle about on. If I buy another fretless bass, it will definitely be one of these.
16.
You might find a bargain under gitar, guiter or giter. I've found that misspellings are a good indicator of someone not having a clue about an instrument or its worth.
Yup. I frequently search for 'base guitar', often comes up with some interesting results.
17. Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends SRV - Little Wing The Beat - Can't Get Used To Losing You Madness - One Step Beyond George Michael - I Can't Make You Love Me The Mangled Wurzels - Hey You, Get Offa My Land (Cloud) Eva Cassidy - Fields Of Gold and Songbird
18.
We played a wedding last year where Chesney Hawkes was a guest. 'I am the one and only' drove me nuts at the time but having to learn it and write it out for the rest of the band meant I found a lot of respect for it- it's got more key changes than Yale RnD.
Written of course by the criminally underrated Nicholas Kershaw Esq.
19. Does Dancing Queen count as cheese? If so, that. Love it.
20. I'd gladly give him a grand for that. A cool thousand... ...Indonesian rupiah (16,500=£1).
21. But luckily a few days ago you managed to move it on to some unsuspecting mug punter who thought he was buying one of those mini things
22. 'Impact technology' love it. A bit like 'percussion engineering'. Thanks for the help chaps . I've got an enforced month off playing coming up (carpal surgery recuperation) so I'll take that opportunity to have a ferret around inside it and see what I can see see see.
23. What it says. Very worried. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300011-genz-benz-shuttle-60-misbehaving-help/page__pid__3231906#entry3231906
24. My Shuttle 6 was playing up at the gig the other night. Was working fine, suddenly there was a fizzy crackly noise and the volume dropped drastically. I fiddled with the volume control to little effect, then in desperation I thumped the top of the case and the fault cleared. Not the first time it's done the crackly thing, but it's the first time that I've needed to apply the percussion to sort it. Eeek. Any ideas?
25.
Come on feedback please
Yeah, come on you lazy sods, it's only 10 to 1 in the morning.
