1.
Fenix was the brand name of Korean manufacturer Young-Chang, which was the factory which took over the Squier contract when it moved from Fujigen in Japan. Most early Fenixes were basically hot-rodded, rebranded versions of the Squiers that Young-Chang was building. Inevitably, Fender took a rather dim view of this business model (and of the Fenix name itself, apparently) & promptly took their contract elsewhere. There are suggestions that lawsuits may have been involved, and the fact that Fenix headstock shapes rapidly became a whole lot less Fender-y certainly does imply concerns over legality. Fenixes do have a reputation for good quality (as do Young-Chang Squiers) and there are some gorgeous Strat variations out there. Sadly the basses were less exotic but still very well-made.
My bestie had a Fenix PJ bass, reminiscent of a modded oly white P. It was a really nice instrument, well built and sounded great. He had to sell it and unfortunately I needed the money more than I needed another bass, so I missed out on it
2.
Nice one, love it. I have a friend who has about 25, or so, bikes. His secret? all of them are black. When he buys a new one and his wife sees it for the first time, and says "Is that new?" he says "This, nah, had it for years". All your basses need to be the same colour.
This. My mate introduced an entire new drumkit to his house by ensuring it was the same colour as his previous one.
3. Re-opened/bumped.
Up for grabs is my MIJ Steve Harris signature Precision (2009 I believe). Quite a weighty beast with a nice chunky neck that you could swing from. Here's a link to the original spec: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender-steve-harris-p-bass#productDetail I've upgraded the pickup to a Fender Custom Shop '62 and it sounds fantastic (I no longer have the original SPB1). If you like zingy it'll need some new strings, if not then it's fitted with some Fender 7250ML's that are approximately 6 months old. One of the original tuners was a little stiff for my liking so I replaced them all with Wilkinson equivalents. I still have the originals which will obviously be included. The screw holes etc were all the same and I left the original ferrules in place so no harm done if you wanted to swap them back. The bass does have a few knocks on the body which have been touched up by the previous owner. The main one is between the bridge and the pickup which although quite a ding, is barely noticeable as the finish of the bass does tend to hide knocks very well. There's also a small ding on the face of the headstock and 4 tiny indentations at the fourth fret beneath the D and G strings where it looks like something has pressed against it at some point. These are minor marks but I've tried to mention everything. All in all it's a very honest bass that's been used, plays and sounds great and just needs a new home. I'll also supply a cheap and cheerful non-Fender hard case. Possible trades - Barefaced Gen 3 Super Twin (Silver Cloth) I'm in South Yorkshire but as always, willing to meet up. EDIT ## PLEASE NOTE - UK buyers only please ##
5. One of our brass players uses one, he has one of those clever Bluetooth page turning footswitch things too. I rely on memory personally ☺

7. 2016 is just taking the piss now. 😡 F**k this f**king sh*t year. Relentless attrition from one f***ing end to the other. Sorry about the swearing. I'm upset and angry because bits of my youth keep dying.
8.

Löewenherz. Where 'taste' and 'restraint' have no meaning.
9. Yup, I'm having a NKD. Going to dabble with some keyboard stuff for the first time since 1987, courtesy of the Novation K-Station currently winging its way to me.
10. Can't help feeling that print media is doomed.
11. [sup]oh god it's only half an hour down the road from me[/sup] I do not need another bass, not even a Shuker I do not need another bass, not even a Shuker I do not need another bass, not even a Shuker I do not need another [sub]bass, not even a [/sub]Shuker I [sub]do not [/sub]need another [sub]bass, not even a [/sub]Shuker I need another Shuker D'oh!
12. That is all kinds of fabulous. The chrome pups are perfect. Easily the best looking Thunderbird I've ever seen.
13. The preamps in the Sire V7/M7 basses have a passive tone control. Much like the Sadowsky, it works in both active and passive modes.
14. I'm considering a Novation K-Station (because I've found a cheap one). All I've got to go on at the moment are the various online reviews and a few youtube clips that seem to suggest there are some nice farty analogue bass sounds to be had from it. Anyone have opinions on it?
15. Oh good, some relentless negativity. Things were getting far too cheerful round here.
16. Having missed every single LBGS so far, I was promising myself that I'd go this year.... ...and as it turns out, it's going to be about a week after my scheduled carpal tunnel surgery. Great. Fingers crossed for 2018, then.
17. Neil Sedaka wrote the lyrics to "Oh! Carol" about Carole King, who he went out with at school (her real name is Carol Klein). (Carole King released a responding single "Oh! Neil", using the same tune but with a tongue-in-cheek lyric written by her then husband Gerry Goffin.)
18.
My old band Violent Intent - straight outta Sidcup - had a song called Violent Intent.
My old band Closer Apart -- Wokingham's finest, circa 1987 -- and our sig tune 'Closer Apart'.
19. The best fretless playing I have ever heard was Alain Caron, in Mike Stern's quartet. His F-Bass tone was gorgeous, his pocket playing flawless, but best of all was his soloing... one of them was so damned melodic, the tune actually got stuck in my head and I found myself whistling it next day. Playing a machine-gun flurry of notes and calling it a solo is all very well, but it takes a real musician to make it tuneful, and he did it in spades.
20. Definitely time to move on. Politely decline the artist's offer of doing 'other things' and wish them luck with the new bassist/arranger/producer... I assume the new guy is doing all three jobs, like you were?
21. Gentle reminder to all: OFFERS OF TRADES SHOULD BE MADE VIA PM ONLY. Not on the sale thread. Ta. 22.
These are amazing- and not just for the price. These are great instruments, period.
This. GLWTS!
23.
If stuff like this bothers you, don't buy sight unseen...
This.
24. Pics would be good. The original link doesn't appear to work.
25. This is the best passive 5 string I've ever played -- OldGit's gorgeous Shuker P.
