1. Thanks I'm torturing myself as well by putting this up for sale...
2. I hate to do this. I hate to put one of the best Jazz Basses I've ever played up for sale. I hate to let one of the basses I dreamed of since I was 14 go. But I'm gonna do it. This is the one, the famous Scarbee bass from April '98. Specs: Ash body Maple neck/fretboard Lindy Fralin Pickups Aguilar OBP-1 preamp Brass nut Hipshot tuners BadAss II bridge The bass weighs 5.8 kilos, which is about 12.7 lbs. That might sound a bit heavy, but I've never experienced the bass to be particularly heavy How it sounds? Think of the fattest, best 70's-like Jazz Bass you know. Add a little bit more testosterone and some funk and you have the sound. It sounds brutal and plays like butter. You want it. You know you do. £1800 plus shipping. No case included, but I might get one for shipping. Adds £30 to price. Pickup in Holland preferred though. No trades, except for a rosewood fretboard 5-string Jazz. Chris himself said this about it:
Yeah it seems that that bass has become somewhat of a legend. The body on the Scarbee bass is Danish ash. Medium weight - lighter than Northern White Ash (US) and heavier but with more heft than Southern Swamp Ash (US). The neck is hard rock maple with the same hard rock maple fingerboard. Pickups are Lindy Fralin Jazz, and the Aguilar OBP-1 preamp is setup with double volume, bass (boost), treble (cut) ... or "vintage tone control" if you will. The trimmer controls the boost level of the treble in the preamp. I am not a fan of treble boost (on a bass), thus I always wired the OBP-1 this way so you can preset the amount of max treble on the trimmer and then cut it from there on the front of the bass to suit the music. The Badass bridge is from right before I designed my own bridge (with string-thru-body-option). This bass has serial # 9804130 ....meaning it was built in April 1998 and is bass number 130.

3.
Got my old Lefay back through a trade for an Elrick...nice to hear those slides again.
And now I'm jealous again.
4.
Yamaha RBX270 (1999) First bass, traded it for my Yamaha BB N5II Yamaha RBX270F (2000) Sold, great bass Yamaha BB N5II* (2001) My first 5-string ever. I traded it for the Frankenbass but regretted it so much I bought it back. It's tuned E-C now and I love it so much... ESP/Knooren frankenbass (unknown) Traded it for the TRB5II Blade B2 Tetra Jazz* (2001) Bought this really really cheap. It's a very nice bass but I upgraded it anyway, with an Aguilar OBP-1 and Nordstrand NJ4s. It got signed by Marcus Miller I'll never ever sell this. Fender Jazz Bass Standard Fretless* (2004) One of the fretless basses I've ever played. Modded it by installing Fender CS60's pickups, a new pickguard, Gotoh 201 bridge and had the fingerboard epoxied. Yamaha TRB5II (2001) Sold... it was an awesome bass. I want it back. Yamaha BB414 (2007) Traded it for one of my Aguilar cabs. It was an excellent instrument and I want one again some day. Johann Georg Kessler double bass (unknown) Sold. I got tendonitis from playing upright so I had to sell it. I still have the urge to play... Motion B-05 BK (unkown) This was in a terrible state when I got it. I cleaned and repaired it, played it for a while then sold it. It got me GAS for a proper acoustic bass though. Blade B1 (2003) Sold. I will regret this for ever. Cobelens & de Bruyne Primo merbau (2008) Returned it to the luthiers, so they could use the electronics and hardware for my new bass. My endorsement ended (they stopped building entirely) before I got the new one. Squier Vintage Modified Precision (2008) Changed the pickup to Fender Original, it got a new bridge and new pots, and it's now way better than a USA Fender. Sold it to a very good friend of mine. Yamaha BB300 (1989) Good bass, but I traded it for the TRB5F. Got it back later in another trade, but sold it to get the Squier CV Precision (see below). Yamaha TRB5F (1995) Awesome fretless, but I liked my Fender more so I sold it. Still want it back though. Squier Standard Jazz Bass (2007) Sold. It was good but not good enough. Celinder J Update 4* (1998) I have dreamed of having a Celinder for about 5 years and now I was able to afford it and get it for a reasonable price. It's an old one (and the one in the Basschat banner) and one of the most comfortable basses to play I own. It's certainly the loudest. Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass (2009) This was absolutely fantastic and made me buy my '66 Jazz. I sold it anyway Fender Jazz Bass* (1966) Thanks to me and my brother winning a Dutch TV quiz I could buy this. It has been my dream to have a vintage Jazz for my entire bass life, and now I have this one Everyone who plays it, including yours truly, is astonished by the playability, feel and sound of this creation from heaven. Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V (2004) Had Bartolini's installed when I bought it. Awful boring sound, so I took the preamp and the pickups out and installed passive electronics and Nordstrand split pickups. It sounded quite good but weighed a ton so I sold it. Squier JV Precision (1982) Got this bass in mint condition with a cable, Blue Note strap, Fender amp and stand for the astonishing amount of €75. It needed new strings and a setup badly, but otherwise this bass was absolutely amazing. I sold it for €850 'cause I never played it ánd I wanted to afford another bass (see below ;-)). I think that was the worst decision I've ever made basswise. Not that the bass I got back for it was bad, but mán what an instrument. Lakland 55-60 Limited Edition Translucent White (2010) * Got it for a good price (new). One of the best 5-string Jazzes I've ever played. It's a Skyline, but it has some birdseye figuring in the neck It sounds absolutely amazing, has an extremely tight B-string and I love the looks and playability. I won't be selling this one very soon I think. Squier Classic Vibe Precision 50's Butterscotch Blonde* I missed the JV. I wanted a Precision again, so I got the Yamaha BB300 (see above) again. However, I wasn't completely satisfied with the BB300. It missed something. I then played a CV Precision in a store somewhere and that was what I wanted! So I got one Warwick Triumph (1981)* A bass from the Framus/Warwick transition period. It used to be a 5-string and the electronics were messed with, but I want to restore it. See my thread in the Upright section of this forum for more info on that Frankenjazz Built from a Warmoth body, Allparts neck, Fender CS60's pickups and Gotoh hardware. Great bass, but I had some better basses than that so I sold it * indicates I still have them.
It's been two years, let's edit this a bit...
5. Here's me sitting in a car I absolutely adore: a 1961 Fiat 600 with suicide doors. I saw it in Rome, it was in mint condition and I was in love with it immediately. I was drooling at it for a while, when a guy (apparently the owner) came up to me: "Would you like to sit in it?" Well, errr, YES! And here's what I do live:
6. Had a 4.5 hour rehearsal today, just like yesterday and the day before. I love my job
7. Well, I have something. If you wanna have a cheap, small car but want your gear to fit in it, get one of these. I've been driving it for the last three years and I really like it The only thing is driving more than about 90 miles to a gig. It doesn't have the best seats, nor is it very suitable for someone my size (6'3"). But everything fits easily and it's very, véry economical. 900 brutal cc's, 39 staggering horses under the bonnet. Nope, don't try to go faster than about 80 mph. But everything fits. Here's proof. My Aguilar DB112 cabinets and Aguilar AG500SC amp, our guitarist's Orange 4x12" cabinet and Orange Thunderverb amp. Our guitars (3 in total), pedal boards and backpacks had to fit in there as well. They did. I'm looking for something else now, might be a Skoda Fabia Combi, Volkswagen Golf or Vauxhall Astra.
8.
That white Lakland... Mmm...
I love that bass. It's my main gigging bass now, even prefer it over my 1966 Fender Jazz (only 'cause of the 5th string, but still...).
9. Mine.
10. Thanks! I have been in touch with Andreas Egelkraut of the Framus museum, who couldn't really help me. He said he'd send my question to Vlado Hansal, who owns the MEC company and was supposedly involved in designing the Triumph. I hope he has some information for me Merry Christmas to you too!
11.
Ok ok, this one deserves to be here, too..
Wow, that ís a sexy bass!
12. Ooh! Ooh! I have one! And I love it. It's a Squier Classic Vibe Precision 50's, got it for about £70, and it even came with proper covers!
13. I have a Warwick Triumph from 1981. It is actually a bass from the transitional years between Framus and Warwick: It used to be a 5-string, but one of the previous owners placed a new nut and bridge and converted it into a 4-string bass. Now that is not that much of a problem. I would, however, love to restore it back to original, if possible. That is possible with a new nut and bridge, because the tuner is still there. But there's a problem. Check out the electronics on this bass: I don't know exactly what the original electronics layout was like... I know that there used to be a pickup with 5 polepieces and a metal cover. On this one, 1 of the polepieces and the cover are missing. I hope the guy I bought it from still has it, but I'm not sure. The wire from the pickup where it is now goes into the cavity beneath the original position: And ends up on the side, beneath a little plastic cover with a jack output on it. That would of course be the original pickup, which has to be replaced to the middle of the body somehow. Then there's this: A jack output at the tailpiece, connected to a piezo pickup that is beneath the bridge: Was that piezo pickup originally there? It's supposed to end up like this (I think), but then as a 5-string: Is it possible to restore the bass to original at all?:help:

Jazz

I have quite a few Jazzes... 5 in fact First up is my Fender Jazz from '66. Original except for 2 screws and the finish. Next is my Celinder J Update 4 from 1998, built for Danish session player Thomas Skarbee and also owned by forum member Crazykiwi Then there's my Blade B2 Tetra Bass, replaced the pickups with Nordstrands and the preamp with an Aguilar OBP-1. And here's my Fender Standard Jazz Bass fretless. Replaced the pickups with Fender CS60's, put a Gotoh 201 bridge and black pickguard on it and had the fingerboard epoxied. Finally my Lakland 55-60 Limited Edition Translucent White!
15. Woo, here's my baby! Fender Standard Jazz Bass fretless from 2001. I modded it quite a bit. The pickups were replaced by Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups (which sound fantastic by the way), I switched the pickguard with a black one, put a Gotoh 201 bridge on it and, last but not least, had the fingerboard epoxied. That last thing was the best thing I ever did to a bass Whát a sound. 16. I have two, a Fender Jazz from '66 which I love dearly Since I started playing over 13 years ago I wanted to have a vintage Fender Jazz Bass, and almost three years ago, the moment was there: And about a year ago, I got a Lakland 55-60 Limited Edition, when they were released in Translucent White, my favo Lakie colour:
17. So here's mine: And here's how it looks on me:

19. I don't have all the basses together right now, but this is my Jazz Bass collection. The OWH is a refinished bass from 1966 I also own this: And this: And this is on the way, probably:
20. That's definitely genuine bút it has been refinished. Yamaha never made TRB6s in that colour, IIRC.
