    I do miss some of the Squiers I've owned. The 2 CV Jazzes with quartersawn neck, but especially the JVs. It all started with the JV Precision I bought for €75 and sold for...a lot more. The guy I sold it to still owns it and refuses to sell it back to me. Grrrr. Then there was this all-original, mint condition fiesta red JV Jazz in its original case I saw on the local marketplace-website that the owner was selling for about 200 euros. I sent her a message because I didn't want it to end up in the hands of someone who'd just buy it to sell for a lot more. It was the best Squier I've ever played and I secretly really really regret not keeping it. What an amazing instrument that was. I gave it a good clean, some new strings and a good setup and sold it for a market-based price to a guy who wanted to pair it with his fiesta red Precision. And theeeeen there was the sunburst JV I bought because it was so cheap. I thought the neck pickup was broken when I was still at the seller's place, turned out it was a bit of dust in the volume pot. I don't really like sunburst basses but I really considered keeping this one as well. But, as I already have a lot of Jazzes and had just ordered a new custom De Gier, it had to go. But it was a gréat bass.

    You're not knocking the bass, only naming everything you think is wrong with it.

    Yeah it does miss the Gotoh tuners but the pickup switch is a nice upgrade. That roasted neck feels amazing, and I was really surprised by the quality of the fretwork.

    Don't know if this belongs here, but it's a Mustang-ish bass so I'll post it anyway. An acquaintance of mine bought a bass for his 12 year old daughter and asked me to set it up and see if the electronics or hardware needed replacement. It was one of these Harley Bentons: He put some Labella Low Tension flats on it himself, and the bass was...magnificent. Finish, fretwork, electronics, setyp, everything was tip top. Not even for the money, just as an instrument. If you need an affordable short scale bass, get yourself one of these. It's only €229 at Thomann and if I didn't have my vintage Mustang, I'd seriously consider buying one.

    I replaced the elephant tuners on my Belgrado with lollipops. Big improvement, if you ask me. There are more tuners on the way for my De Gier bass.

    I went on tour with a soul band last May, and they made a compilation video of one of the shows. Turned out pretty nicely. It was the only show that tour I used my JMJ Mustang, I played my vintage '73 Mustang on all other shows. But it was great fun. Germany is an amazing country to play!

    That collection is absolutely perfect. Except for perhaps a flatwound Precision, I wouldn't add or get rid of a single bass there. Lovely.

    Not the usual lightweight Eich rig last weekend; played a festival in Leipzig (Germany) and the organisation provided an amp. But I did bring the Eich head It was LOUD.

    Honestly, I would ask your luthier. If you have a good one that knows about vintage Fenders he'll advise you what is best for your bass.

    Thanks for the advice My bones are mended. Got a call from the doctor last week after an X-ray and it's healed just fine, and I can put strain on my shoulder as usual. I was looking for a new strap because the metal plate is still on the bone and it's still sensitive. I have bought a Slinger strap a few weeks back, that was designed for your right shoulder and that works perfectly!

    Well, the Gruvgear is going back to Thomann. It's too short and too wide. The edge of the strap presses exactly on the edge of the metal plate in my shoulder. So nope, not for me. The 2.5 inch wide version could have worked but the 4" is too wide.

    I received the Richter Ultra Comfort strap and it feels really nice. The leather is good, the padding is very comfortable. The Gruvgear should arrive today, I wonder how they compare.

    Thanks! I bought it a few years ago from Andy Baxter's, just after Scott Devine was there and was very impressed with it. I didn't know that when I bought it, though, but he was right. It's possibly the best Jazz I've ever owned (or even played?). Better than the Celinder Skarbee bass I had.

    Just to have choice, I've also ordered the Richter Ultra Comfort Ergo strap. That should arrive tomorrow.

    I'm not surprised. If Fender's goal was to acquire Leo's workplace and his name and likeness, it's not more than logical that they don't "need" the G&L stock. They won't sell Fender-branded basses with G&L branded bridges and MDF pickups, anyway. It's a lot cheaper to sell or dispose of that stuff than to try to re-purpose it.

    But if it includes 40s RnB and jazz it's double weird. Ska and blue beat evolved from RnB and mento being squashed together. I bought the book anyway🙃

    It was probably originally sunburst. CAR was a custom colour in those years AFAIK, which would have meant it had a white pickguard. But it looks amazing! Love the wear on the neck, and the fact you have photos of the original owner add to its mojo. Enjoy that beautiful instrument.

    Took both my USA Lakies for a swing last weekend with my ABBA tribute. Still can't get over how incredible these two basses are.
