  1. There’s so much I want to say on this thread. 1. Awesome, Frusciante + Flea + Chad Smith = Magik 2. My favourite Frusciante album is To Record only water For 10 day. Murderers & Ramparts are amazing! 3. I think RHCP albums all have their own merit, BSSM is a masterpiece, Californication is unforgettable, and By The Way has some incredible tracks on it. I am happy to see all the love for Venice Queen, I also love On Mercury, Minor Thing. 4. Really looking forward to what RHCP will release...But the older I get the less i like Flea’s bass tone.
  2. I would try get a 2nd hand Mesa Subway D800. I love mine! It’s a very versatile amp due to the voicing control.
  3. Congrats! I look forward to reading your column!
  4. Wow, that’s a good price. I got a quote from Eurosender for sending a bass from Scotland to France for €300...Needless to say I went else where.
  5. I’m in this year.
  6. It just an observation from what I often hear. Obviously good guitarist have good muting and apply it, but all to often I see guitar players having problems keeping unused strings quiet.
  7. When I think of some one playing bass like a guitar player the traits I tend to pick up on are: Lack of following the drums; Poor muting technique leading to a muddy bass sound.
  8. I think this is the best live picture I have of me. I usually look way worse than this...
  9. I remember being a teenager and being told bassists should use their fingers. I fell for it hook line and sinker. Then as I got more experience under my belt I realised that using a pick is just another technique that gives a different sound. To be honest I need to spend more time with a pick as I am starting to love that tone more and more. But I totally agree it’s scary we have “teachers” spouting this nonsense...
  10. If you are around Glasgow any time, give me a shout and you can come try my Alpher’s if you like, I have a 4 & 5 string.
  11. My suggestion would be take a trip to your local guitar shop and play as many basses as you can to see what you like. No shame at all in preferring 4 strings, and also no shame in liking the stag, if it plays well and sounds good it is good regardless of the name on the head stock.
  12. Spot on. The Bruno Mars songs are great fun to play. Losing my musical snobbery was such a gift. This should be comment of the month. Such a great point, if no one had musical snobbery the music scene would be a better place.
  13. Lovely bass! Is that Nordy big singles?
  14. Yeah I feel you so I will start you off with my 5er
  15. Yup if I have to choose just the one thing it sure is the Alpher! Best bass I have ever played. The nords are incredible, they really respond to the volume control.
  16. Pretty much had a great 2019 gear wise. Whole new rig and I have never felt better about my tone. New Alpher Mako Elite with Nordstrand Blades, Mesa Subway D800, and Vanderkley 212.
  17. Waterfront - Simple Minds. This song is basically the same note through out the same song.
  18. What are the bets this guy is a politician, he sounds like he is pitching for either side of Brexit.
  19. Lawries prices were very reasonable when I had some lessons with him.
  20. +1 for hoffnine. Great cabs and a nice guy who will help you get the cab you want.
  21. Lawrie MacMillan is the guy you want. He is an incredible player and teacher. He teaches out of Rosyth, it would be well worth the travel. He is a member here @lawriemacmillan
  22. I stick with my pair of Alpher Mako Elites. I can’t see me wanting another bass. Now I have bitten the bullet and put together a monster Mesa / Vanderkley rig I am totally GAS free.
  23. I’m going to say that’s a problem with the rig, more than the bass.
