  1. This is very true. Even though I have many basses, I only have 1 child...
  2. This is also a true consideration, now is not the time to sell. I am considering casing up a bunch of instruments and see if I get the craving to dig them out...
  3. That's true and it's generally the way I think about bass and my band, the both cost me a lot of money, but think of it like a golfer, if you want to play you have to pay. Yet something in me lives the idea of just having maybe 1 bass and 1 guitar and then it seems my life may be more simple. Realistically bass wise it would either be my Alpher or CS P Bass that stays...
  4. So the concensus is basically "no". Funnily enough this is what my heart says, but my head tells me I shouldn't be having thousands of pounds worth of instruments that I don't strictly need.
  5. With all this lock down malarkey, it's got me thinking. Could I live with just one bass? I currently have 5 and recently I have been trying to convince myself I only need one. Has anyone managed to cull a collection down to just one bass?
  6. Always thought Robert Sledge didn't get the credit he deserved as a bass player, I guess when you are in a band with a genius like Ben Folds your talent is likely to get over shadowed. Anyway this song has a great bass solo and a funny video. Enjoy...
  7. I am mainly a 4 string player but I do have a 5 string with a high C. I would take it as a challenge to find fingerings on parts of the fret broad you might not normally use, or alternatively you could right hand tap the high notes.
  8. A couple of weeks in and they still sound and feel great. They have great tuning stability, and have settled in well. One question I was asked about was fret noise, and I would say there is a little more fret noise than NYXL's but not an unacceptable amount. Where I feel these strings really shine is when playing with a pick. They are bright and clear. Unfortunately they still haven't had the real test of being gigged, but I will definitely be buying them again, even at full retail price
  9. Has anyone played the A4 Ultimate with the fishman pickups? Gotta say that bass looks really interesting!
  10. Valerie Another one bites the dust Californication I’m sure there’s more but now I’m drawing a blank...probably for the best.
  11. I am comfortable with 0.88 and up usually tortex. But what I would def recommend getting a mixed bag to try a few. https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/12112111385067--dunlop-pvp102-variety-pack-mediumheavy-12-player-pack
  12. So this song is in the key of D major. You can tell this because the D(I), G(IV)& A(V)chords are major. If you are comfortable with the blues scale and want to use this to solo in, use the B minor blues scale as B minor is the relative scale to D major.
  13. I have one of these, it was my first bass. Great bass for the money! Especially if you want a narrow string spacing.
  14. Guitar Pro 7 will let you do what you want to do. To my limited knowledge it only lets you use its on VST’s though.
  15. I’m currently transcribing this: Love Janek’s playing on this album.
  16. I would say join the Line 6 HX Stomp Owners group on Facebook and there are quite a few people who work for Line 6 in the group, I’m sure you will be looked after.
  17. This is a great video about why notation is better than tab, and below it is an equally good video explaining that while notation is great a preferable for most circumstances, TAB still has a place. I think these videos are good companion pieces to show both sides of the argument well.
  18. Having the tab in a separate section is one of my favourite things about Janek’s books, it really challenges my reading, but if I get stuck I can always check the tab.
  19. I think I need to adopt this.
  20. Hmm I might be back in after all. I may have been scammed with the DI box. The seller has not communicated at all and the email address on the paypal account doesn’t exist.... We will wait and see.
  21. One thing that grabbed me from the original post is that you want a versatile instrument, my advice would be get a bass with a P J pick up configuration, or P MM. To take the bass jargon out: P - Precision pick up J - Jazz pick up MM - Musicman Pick up (Humbucker) If you buy used you will be able to pick up a great instrument for around £600 and if you don’t like it, get most of your money back.
  22. Just put a set of Ultimates on my Alpher. Great first impression. The strings feel great, very bright, and a really pleasing tension. I would say they feel just a bit looser than NYXL’s. I will report back on life span after a few weeks. If they last well I might have found my new strings of choice! Thanks again for the great discount.
  23. I’m pretty sure there is video footage that you have to buy from Janek’s website. He did a master class on the book on You tube a couple of days ago, I haven’t seen it yet so not sure on the content.
  24. I would suggest doing the audio and video separately, do a big slap at the start so that you can sync them easily. It can be done quite easily on iMovie etc. The you can mix the audio in your DAW. I watched a Rick Beato mixing video the other day and he said for phone speakers to boost the bass at 100K (or possibly 300K) I cant remember...
