1. Bloomin lovely! Yet again the Sad does the business in a band setting. This is becoming their signature. How'd the P get on Russ?
2. It is indeed a remarkable bass.
3. It strikes me that a P bass tone like the one this bass delivers is fundamentally awesome Fingers crossed.
4. Roland cube's are great but also not cheap. Mine failed a little while back too but was far from new. I'd say look on here for a small 2nd hand amp and don't limit yourself to 30W but to portability. I use a Warwick Blue 60 and it has a bonus of a line in which is a boon for playing along to my Tascam MP3. Headphone socket and line out too which are all used.
5. As of last night I can attest to Alan's Sandy being extremely sweet indeedy
6. If you're a Lady AM it won't be sweat will it, I'm sure that having 'glow' on occasionally won't do the strings any harm. If however you qualify instead as a woman then maybe perspiration is the issue, that and the fact that in a few weeks you're probably spending more hours playing than I do in a few months Men and horses sweat
7.
Relic'd means beaten to sh*t if something thinks it will make an instrument worth more Theres a fine line between a good relic job and obliterated. wtf is up with the burning??
There's a not so fine line between a bass being used and getting genuinely 'aged', unique and 'an old friend' and someone deliberately defacing it. One is real and one is entirely fake (and stupid?). All in my opinion of course, it makes no sense to me at all, owning something entirely incongruent and being in the slightest bit pleased with it.
8. Me too, most definitely
9. It is Nik, and a happier bass player am for it methinks. The C64S and CS 4001's came out yesterday too. I forget how nice they sound.
10. Hiya, welcome and congratulations
11. You're welcome Jon. Bit of a way for a gathering I know!
12. That reminds me of an old Naval song called Alladin. It's where I'd still the brush that it has in common
13. Ooh that's one nice looking Jazz there Karl. I'd guess US pickups too for such a 'special' Ltd edition but I don't know how you can tell em apart. Bassassassin?
14. I will Alan It occurred to me that none of 'em are painted i.e. solid colours. Never though of that before.
15. There a Cort Custom Shop in Mad Monks in Kendal - over £1k and very nice indeed.
16. It seems reasonably priced even without the signature? Not that I'd pay that for an old jazz bass.
17. Getting a new song sorted (Losing my religion) and thought I'd have a play in. Not got the Ric's out yet though I realise what a great bunch they are. I haven't played the Darkstarred Warmoth ACG for a while and once I got it dialled in it was a Wow! moment.
18. I suspect that talking of common sense and sound reasoning in relation to the desires of bass purchasers is a folly I have an inexplicable desire to own a jazz bass at the mo. It's undoubtedly a passing BC driven phase and I know that a Sadowsky (Metro or otherwise) would be more likely to be a 'good one' than a standard US or Mexican (i.e. not a Custom Shop) Fender. Hell even modern VM or CV Squiers can sound better - too much of a lottery for the money methinks.
19. Having owned a Metro, a US Lakland and a Skyline I'd have to say that the Metro's are a bit special. What's in a name anyway, I mean one of my nicest basses is called a Thumb
20. If I was spending £4k on a bass it would have to be a custom bass. I also wouldn't pay that much for a Fender that had been put together in a mysterious way I'd work out what I wanted 1st, thinking about all the bits I'd really appreciated from my previous basses and what they lacked. I'd then find a luthier that didn't mind spending a lot of time going through all the options (after all it IS a lot of money) and discussing it all in detail. I'd then be a bass that's a little different and suits my purpose. Sod the resale value if that's at the expense of getting what really suits you and you anticipate the bass being a keeper. Personally I find that Alan at ACG is brilliant at communication and working with the customer. The realism and every day congruence of the bloke perhaps detracts somewhat from the 'mythical' aura that surrounds some other bass builders but I reckon his products stand comparison with basses costing 1 1/2 to 2 times the price. With the change you could always donate it to my benevolent fund?
21. Thomann are superb in this respect. Sadly since the 'crunch' they are too expensive
22. I have one of these and it's a helleva bass I can tell you. So have a bump on me.
23. That is without a doubt the single most stunning example of a Sadowsky that I have ever seen. It ticks all the Jazz boxes and then some. Seeing this has in part made my 'bass day' and made me a bit miffed that it's well beyond my reach (unless you're looking for a 4001 Chris Squire ). I suspect that someone with more cash to spare than me will be along later and snap this up.
24. There's the method's of getting the sacking over on him by various surreptitious means that in the main make it easier on those doing the sacking and not on the drummer in my way of thinking. If you get sacked from a band it's going to hurt and he will have to deal with that. It's a lot like ending a relationship, people have to get over it but it hurts and time heals. I'd say be straight, be honest, tell him that his drumming is holding you all back and that he'll have to make way for a new drummer, nothing personal and don't get into a slanging match with the bloke when he 'kicks off'.
25. I'd say give Overwater nickels a try. I've used DR Sunbeams and Sadowsky's and I think they're fab. £13.99 deliver for 4 too.
