Well it looks like the 8th Aug is the day. It's going to be a small 'festival' in our drummer's back garden (we're talking rural Cumbria, it's a large and separated walled garden with it's own doorway). We seem to have at least two other established bands coming. My main concern is with an open air gig with other bands all the issues around PA and whose gear gets used (mines not getting abused by anyone but me). Sound is the other consideration. I suspect that 500W will only be any use as a monitor?? I wish we were doing something simpler sooner. It's the 1st gig for all 4 of us too but we really are improving. Lead guitard is still a bit of a plonker at times but at least I know everyone else in the band thinks this now which makes it easier We haven't got a name yet. Lead Guitarist doesn't like 'The Zimmermen'. At 54 I'm the youngest TMD? Three Musicians & a Drummer? Pedro

You could try wiring it direct to the jack and see what the output is like that way. Peter

What is apparent is that they are significantly different. I managed to crank the DB's up at home to quite high levels without everything in the room resonating in sympathy!Played at band practice tonight. More mids definitely and I like the way they insidiously penetrate the mix without getting extremely bassey. If you slap a lot I suspect the GS's will be your friend. Not a huge difference and I'm sure that EQing will level it even more but I'm very pleased. I hope Jas is too but he's owned GS's before so he knows what he's got anyway. Aggy 112's, they're all good. Peter

Really pleased with the DB's. Less bottom but more mids. I like mids

Excellent post Alex

I swapped my pair of GS's for a pair of DB's on Friday. Band practice tonight should better inform me. I think the mid scooped response of the GS's gives way to more defined mids. I've just checked out the DB's in my small flat with a LMII turned to vol 5. Whereas the GS's would have had the room destroying itself the DB's sound just as loud but punchier or tighter. I likeee

This is a rare and absolutely mint bass that I've kept as an investment and not played. I'll get some photos up tomorrow. It comes with all the case candy in a silver tolex case etc. I realise that having two fairly rare rics and worrying about how I'm paying for my new build is daft. I'm keeping the 4001CS which I'm inclined to play a bit too as it's too nice to be hidden away. This the the 'Macca' bass with the reversed headstock, vintage nickel plated reverse tuners and the modified body shape. No sharks teeth markers on the neck but dots. Tis a beauty. Looking for £2,400 which is sadly less than I paid for it, recession and all that. Peter
Everything just feels like it's in the wrong place. The body is really unwieldy & uncomfortable too. I had two for about three years & just never got used to them Horrible cheap plastic parts on them too - shameful on a bass that expensive.
Cheap plastic is a bit of a myth anyway Plastic is actually more expensive than most metals, it's just easier to use in the manufacturing process, saving money there. Both my Rics are kinda bass investments (4001CS and 4001C64S). I really should play em more often.
