  1. Is that the same as, or different from, architectural conservation? Sorry for the numpty question, but the term is new to me.
  2. @dannymaddock : I am impressed that you are placing these issues so highly in your new business endeavour. Thank you!! Over the years I have purchased and sold on a few basses, mostly pre-owned, that had so called exotic wood facings. Almost all had mahogany cores. The exotic wood facings were aesthetic touches from my perspective. Until recently, I wouldn't have given a fig about sourcing, scarcity etc. If it was the bass of my dreams, and I could afford it, I'd have it. If commissioning a new bass today I would be asking more questions about sourcing, sustainability etc.......and looking for evidence, not just words. Not easy, especially for SME outfits. However, repuations are built on more than certificates though. I see lots of FSC stickers on DIY wood these days.............and I am not so sure how reassuring that is. I see that several big-name brands have switched sourcing to minimise/avoid issues when CITES came in. I also see that some (eg Höfner) have used sustainable materials and are making a big play about it. Good for them........but have never tried or compared any of such basses. So in summary, second-hand basses less important..............newly built bass to my specs, quite important. You're on the right track. Good luck.
  3. Occupational Health Physician (workplace doctor). Now retired. Resident band expert on tinnitus, RSI, back-ache etc.........you name it. In my current band we have a wide selection of ailments that still keep me busy.
  4. I'm neutral, given my location..............but how long until this gravitates to the "B" word!!😭
  5. I think that's called.........marketing!!! I won't be getting one, that's for sure.
  6. That is indeed a lovely birdseye neck (and bass)! Sorry, can't help with a recommendation but I can well undestand you wanting to get it back to spot on. Good luck in your search.
  7. All the very best in the coming weeks! Nailing anything Chris Squire recorded will be a great start 👍
  8. Apparently, real Ric ones have a tendency to crack or fail around the feet of the case. I guess it might be common with similar ABS cases although I personally haven't seen it.
  9. Sounds like a good call. Do keep us posted.
  10. Great player who seems to know how to devise bass lines that just work. Not too flashy, but always spot on in my opinion. He can make simple sound like an "art". For example, the track "Taking It To The Streets" from the album of the same name. So simple, and it works beautifully.
  11. Totally agree
  12. And one super cool grandmother, no doubt!
  13. I am assuming that some of the pot tangs solder directly on the PCB.
  14. I recognise the unique sound of the E string of the Pyramid brand. I have another bass with La Bella Deep Talkin' flats on it and, while it does sound dull, it is certainly not like the Pyramid. I guess what I'm saying is that what you hear is pretty normal for these two brands of string. Others will no doubt chime in.
  15. She did a great cover of Pino's classic Paul Young fretless stuff!!
  16. I think so, but very low key. He is more focused on his core business of Ricks. On Facebook he has "The Rickenbacker Farm" site.
  17. Abba.....seriously uncool to have liked them - despite the ladies - when I was a teenager. Musicianship and vocals .......simply amazing even after so long!!
  18. Christophe: je le ferai
  19. Yes, mostly gigs in the Limburg and in the Netherlands tho. Band members are from all corners of Belgium; luckily, I'm in the middle.

I was just at Claude's place sealing the deal on another bass. While I was there I had chance to play this Fender Jazz bass. Without an amp it is very resonant and the body isn't covered in the dings that are so easy to collect on basswood bodies. This and the weight suggests to me alder, rather than basswood. Just my 2 cents opinion.
  21. I fully endorse the positive comments that others have written about Claude. I just bought a nice bass from him and had the good fortune to meet up at his place in Brussels. The bass was exactly as described, his communication excellent and a very knowledgeable fellow!! Buy with confidence from a man who has knows his stuff. Mille merci, Claude!!
  22. For what it's worth, I use masking tape stuck on to the area that is to be drilled. I find it easier to mark (bradawl) and then drill a pilot hole. Good luck.
  23. Welcome, Christophe! I'm also near Leuven!
