  1. I’ve been a user of Luminlay for a number of years. Very content and, in my opinion, a worthwhile upgrade. The luminosity is enough on dark stages without that “look at me” element that some LED setups have. I don’t use a UV lamp regularly and they still work in a subtle, useable way. The original Luminlay product from Japan is expensive. Other products are out there (e.g. Glowtech stickers) that I haven’t tried. These may be good as well, and they may be cheaper. “You pays your money”, as they say.
  2. And all the while Rickenbacker refused to admit that tail lift on the classic tail piece was a problem. Fast forward and you have the Version 2 tail piece that eliminates the problem, but gives you a higher achievable action!
  3. Good bang for buck, if you like Mayones basses.
  4. Love it…….a true series of Basschat traits going on here! I love a nice Ricky! Well done.
  5. Question: if Fender were to take over G&L, would they keep the batwing headstock? Winner or loser?
  6. Yes, indeed. I’ve not had a Korean or Indonesian-made G&L Tribute, so I can only compare this to a U.S. version. It’s very nice indeed. Aside from the tuners, which are a bit stiff, it is indistinguishable from my U.S. L-2000. It has a 4-bolt neck plate like a Fender.
  7. The Duke is overwound, correct? Anybody compared this with the normal Tonerider P? I’m well impressed with Tonerider pups overall.
  8. It’s true that as we age cartilaginous structures, like the ears and the nose, appear bigger with time. Gravity and the slow breakdown of cartilage will impact the size and shape of the ear canals - and hence fit of custom IEMs - as time goes by. Nothing we can do about it except consider getting news moulds taken, unfortunately.
  9. One of the best things about the G&L electronics package is the ability to play in passive mode even if the battery dies. It’s crazy to me that more active bass manufacturers don’t provide this. I just picked up a very cheap, candy red sparkle L-2000 from Japan. It’s an absolute in-your-face belter!
  10. I purchased my first set of Alpines a few years ago, which came with a small plastic applicator. I think they may have rationalised their packaging and contents since then, as later versions no longer appear to include it. The trick with Alpines is to try not cover the cover the hole in the surface of the attenuator end with thumb or finger as you insert it into the ear canal. (The applicator certainly helps in this regard). By doing so you avoid creating an internal vacuum (bolus) of air that is pushed down the ear canal. The vacuum effect is hard to describe but it can result in two outcomes; a poor seal since the trapped air escapes via the outer edge of the device and the ear canal lining or, it gets pushed further into the ear canal - which can be painful since it risks stretching the tympanic membrane.
  11. Certainly looks like it from the picture above.
  12. Gotta love Bernie’s creations. Enjoy……..and welcome back to the Goodfellow club.
  13. Another great interaction with Youlian. This time it was a MIJ ESP Custom Fretless that he had on offer. The item was correctly described and he immediately responded to my questions with pictures, video clips etc. The bass was quickly dispatched, very well packaged and there were no issues with his choice of courier. Top marks. Youlian is honest, flexible and will do his very best to ensure satisfaction in the buy/sell process. For me he's in the Premier League of Basschatters! Thank you, Youlian.
  14. I hope not. By and large they make great basses, but their distribution has been patchy in Europe.
  15. Great basses for reasonable money back in the day. Prices are creeping up now and there are many butchered ones out there. I was lucky enough to find an unmolested Stingray 4 SUB in black not so long ago.
  16. Not sure what it is.....but, it isn't a Greco.
  17. In your face-sparkle! I love it!
  18. Bow Finishing in Godstone, Surrey. https://www.bowfinishing.co.uk/ I believe they do the finishing work for Bernie Goodfellow (GB Guitars)……..enough said. I’m not affiliated with them, but if Bernie places work there, they must be good. Probably loads of other reputable finishers within the M25 area.
  19. ^^^^^this, especially if you know it’s poly.
  20. Is the existing finish poly or nitro?
  21. I have had repeated success with a length of dental floss wrapped around and under both sides of the control knob to be removed.
  22. Only positive experiences with my dealings with Thomann.
  23. Especially the first series from around mid 2000’s. Like hen’s teeth…..even in Japan. I’m still keeping an eye out for one. I love the blue coloured one!
  24. I have both U.S. and Japanese EX Stingrays, and so I can directly compare. These is really no difference in feel, sound or appearance. The one discernible difference is the lack of the sticker on the back of the headstock on the EX, which specifies where the instrument was made. I would agree that the Japanese QC is top notch. This will be a great buy for the lucky new owner.
