  1. It's kind of a signature part isn't it, everything else backs off and you hear the bass come through with the verse lick.
  2. LOL - I remember not being able to play that fast little verse run reliably when I was in my first band....errrr, 42 years ago. That makes me feel very old 😕
  3. I was actually thinking of this one: He makes it look so easy though!
  4. MarloweDK on YouTube has some lessons on trills. I can’t get them sounding good either, so I’m interested to see what advice is posted.
  5. The saddle position shouldn't change between through-body or top load stringing, intonation should be identical in either case. Rattling springs would be very irritating though. The neck issue is easily fixable by someone with finish repair experience, but it will cost a fair bit to do professionally. Its up to GuitarGuitar what they want to do, which ultimately comes down to Fender's policy on items supplied faulty I guess?
  6. A problem you can feel in the neck is an instant fail in my book for a new bass, that would be an immediate return. The bridge is a wierd one. Is the intonation correct? It looks like the saddles are as far forward as they will go before dropping off the screws hence it is running out of spring length. (are those strings stock - looks like flats to me?) You could either get longer bridge springs or get a couple of bridge springs and cut them in half and add a half-length spring to each saddle. I'd not expect to have to do that on a new bass though.
  7. Tricky one. It’s an expensive bass though, the pro2s aren’t cheap and I’d be expecting a flawless finish for that price new. You’d be justified swapping it for another one, but it’s down to how much it bothers you.
  8. Interesting topic. I never feel that I sync very well with a metronome or a recorded track, but I don’t seem to have a problem live. It’s something to do with following rigidly that puts me off. I’ve noticed when some people play along with tracks on YouTube they lock in super tight e.g. when Rick Beato plays along on some of his “what makes this song great” videos it can be hard to tell him apart from the original player. Obviously he is a really talented musician though.
  9. Good Rick Beato video in which he actually does some tuning of a track and shows just how easy it is.
  10. Have you tried the simple trick of quickly turning the pot throughout it's full range a few 10s of times? I've brought a crackly pot back to normal a few times doing that without any spraying. After that I've used Deoxit F5 fader lube. It's expensive, but effective and doesn't leave the pot track un-lubricated.
  11. Does it come with the flamethrower built in though?
  12. Good to know the details behind this. I have had the usual emails from ebay regarding the change which I have ignored as I have done all my decluttering (i.e. selling of random junk) for this year. I'm only a occasional ebay seller anyway and I won't bother now if they are requiring direct bank access.
  13. Watching Machine Head - priceless bit discussing "highway star"; Bach keyboards and Mozart guitar - now I know where the Spinal Tap "Mach-piece" came from.
  14. I bought an old MIM jazz with a problem with the output socket thread that prevented it being fully tightened. It appeared to be OK, but if the cable moved the socket it crackled like mad. I replaced the socket immediately (and added explicit grounds), but I bet the guy I bought it off had just looped the cable through the strap and lived with it.
  15. Watched 2 episodes. I thought it looked cringey from the original trailers, but I was wrong. Really enjoyed it.
  16. Never, unless there is something wrong with it.
  17. I’m with you on that, I’d not normally spend over £500-ish, but I allowed myself up to £1k for a special retirement purchase. I got a s/h fender pro jazz for that and it is just the nicest thing I have ever played.
  18. It’s got really bad since they changed the terms of service to allow ads to be automatically inserted on anything, even if the owner didn’t have monetisation enabled and doesn’t want ads. I don’t mind ads at the beginning and ends, but the mid-roll ones are dire.

It's really confusing if a stereo jack is plugged in by mistake and nothing happens....not that I've ever done that, oh no 🤡
  20. I like "proper vocals", so the screaming and cookie monster stuff just turns me right off. I'm also not a big fan of downtuned guitars either so those two together eliminates almost all modern metal. I did start out a heavy rock fan, but stuff like UFO/Whitesnake/Pat Travers/Deep Purple was my thing, not Sabbath or Motorhead. I do like some of A Day To Remember's stuff, but they are probably more pop punk with metal elements than stricly metal I guess.
  21. https://www.youtube.com/c/johnyrobo He recently did a good series on chord progressions that is well worth watching.
  22. I follow a small guitar channel where the guy posting is a 50-something guitar teacher living in a very depressed part of the UK. On one of his occasional live chats he said that doing YouTube tutorials (free) with expanded stuff like transcriptions for Patreon subscribers (paid) and paid on-line courses has transformed his finances to the point that he can make a decent living instead of being continually hand-to-mouth. I think it's great that another path has opened for talented people to make a living out of music.
  23. TBH I am really bored with guitar solos. The briefer and the more chordal/double-stoppy style suits my tastes these days and that works well with a 3-piece.
  24. I hate that plate ground thing too. I think it actually is period-correct, but it is still rubbish. I’d certainly swap those mini pots for full size CTS if I was reworking it. (The plate holes will need drilling out to take full-size pots though.)
  25. That’s a nice sight for a repair tech, plenty of room and parts replaceable without a microscope. I wonder what the Ashdown RMs are like to fix? I assume they are almost entirely surface mount with a single board class D power amp/power supply in the middle?
