  1. That’s interesting. How much longer is the nut than the standard one? My bb1100 is fine, with plenty of adjustment, but there is a lot of threaded rod sticking out of the nut which stops closed-ended wrenches fitting.
  2. Got my cab last week, Musik thingy were very efficient. Cab is nice and definitely a v2 as it says so and the tweeter is different to the one in my original cab which must be a v1 (the one that Ashdown took back and upgraded due to the original tweeter being dead on arrival). I don’t have space to set the rig up until I get moved into the new house I’m trying to buy though. Grrr 🙁
  3. I've got a set of Elixir 45-105 stainless (silver ball ends) that I got on a jazz bass I bought s/h (usa Fender pro1). The strings were partially worn but sounded fine so I haven't replaced them yet, but what is very noticeable is that the G sounds very twangy compared to the 3 other strings. It's not just a slight difference either, it really stands out. I think if I was just playing rocky material it wouldn't be out of place, but I am working on some jazz exercises so trying to get a smooth tone. Backing the passive tone control off takes any zing out of the other 3 strings as expected and they also have a similar timbre, but the G string still really stands out as something different and not jazz! Is this an Elixir thing?
  4. I've got one of the Ashdown 210 sealed cabs too (300w non-neo version). The cone excursion when driven hard on low notes is visibly pretty large. For that small cabinet size there is going to be a complex trade-off between max cone excursion, thermal power handling and driver sensitivity. It could turn out that a higher power driver with greater Xmax could have less sensitivity and will not actually be louder or offer any practical advantage. Be interesting to see what Bill says.
  5. I don’t think it is going to be economically repairable. Can you get a new head and stick it in the combo case?
  6. I’ve got a Tonerider in my MiM P. I was a bit unsure at first as it isn’t as bright as the pickup it replaced, but I like it now. There seems to be a lot of “texture” to the sound in the lower registers which I find pleasing.
  7. Lol, no, but it was the 1mm2 2-core that is used on electric lawnmowers etc.
  8. Bah! I lasted over a week before I caved. Just bought one so I will have a pair of 2x10 now. Couldn't resist £194 - how are they doing that price???
  9. I used orange 2 core mains cable back in the day. No chance of mistaking that for a signal cable.
  10. Yes, and a Squier can always be sold on if the playing bug doesn’t stick.
  11. I was just going to post the same - a typical high pass looks like a series RLC when the tweeter is disconnected, so can end up as a very low impedence at the resonant frequency.
  12. Not going to happen. The last shop I went in with a good stock of tasty basses was the London Bass Centre when they were in Wapping and I lived in London. I’m in rural Norfolk now so there is jack. Might be a few Squiers and low-end Fenders in Norwich?
  13. Same here, I also use rechargeable batts. Can’t fault it for the money and I really like the sound, it’s better than using the headphone socket on my amps.
  14. Easy solution now you have a digital desk - compressor insert on his channel set for fast attack and a high ratio with the threshold set so it isn’t quite activating on his soundcheck loudest level. He can turn up as much as he likes after that and it won’t get any louder.
  15. Lol. Super-fast - not a joke. I don’t have the dexterity to play at that speed nor ever will.
  16. Errrr, I shouldn't have looked. Musik Produktiv have the RM210s very cheap. A second one would be great to go with the one I already have. Of course I don't NEED another one.
  17. Mine are mixed, but it is random chance, not planning. I've got a GK MB500 (s/h cheap), a TC RH450 (s/h free) and a Ashdown RM210T-evo cab (new ex-dem cheap, small and light). A selection of that will do if I ever find myself playing out again. (I also have my old Trace 4x10 SMX combo that is realistically too heavy for me to take anywhere these days.)

The gains don’t go to zero on channels with a fader. It’s not usually a problem unless your signal is so hot that you are clipping the channel on minimum gain. I had a quick look at the manual and there is no pad on the channels of that desk, you need to use the line (TRS jack) input for high-level signals.
  19. They changed the terms of service a while back to allow them to insert ads anywhere, you have no choice in the matter. You don’t make anything yourself until you can monetise.
  20. That is interesting, I lived round the corner to Leyton Midland Road in the mid-80s. I think the studios were still there then. I also bought a Peavey bass combo from Allan Gordon's shop in Walthamstow. Served me well that amp.
  21. I agree, the production is too good for it to be genuinely bad. The muted quality of the backing track also reminds me of how a comedy song is mixed to make the vocals extra-prominent.
  22. I think it's ok to slip a (very) small number of the best originals into a covers set, but only if they are getting a really good audience response. If the reaction is "polite" as in the OPs first post then those songs aren't good enough so shouldn't be played.
  23. I haven’t tried it on anything but an iPad since the update, but when I look at a thread with a few replies that I have been following it goes to the first post despite appearing to know which was the last post I looked at (it shows a line with new replies below when I jump to the last page).
