1.
....my question is has anyone tried a .1uF in their P bass

I would think that a 0.1 uF cap in the circuit would just give a muffled decrease in output when you turn the tone knob down. Now you won't be wanting that will you?
I have a 0.1uF paper-in-oil cap in my P-Bass. Don't hear it as muffled myself, find it gives plenty of thump, but still defined. Great for Motown or dub. Admittedly can be too much sometimes. I've got the usual .047uF in another precision. Love PIO caps.
2. On Jazz basses pots are generally solid shaft as the knobs are usually ones with the grub screws. I've got to get a set of CTS ones myself for an old Kimbara jazz copy I just bought. The tone pot can be either log or linear (same value 250k), but if you like to use the tone control (I do); you'll probably find linear pot to be better. You get less of a gradual change in tone with a log - more of a drop off. However, if you dont use it much, I don't think it matters TBH. Caps are usually 0.047uF, but you can experiment. I've got a paper in oil (PIO) cap 0.1uF in one my P-Basses for a real motown thump, whilst in others I've got 0.047 Orange drops & PIO.
3. Sorry to be boring, but I have to say; I honestly don't judge a band by their gear, age, look or image etc..prior to actually hearing them. I give them two or three songs (as the first song with any band can sometimes be ropey) before I decide whether or not they're my cup of tea. Sometimes a band can be a pleasant surprise.
4. Playing with my mate's band; Hot Dog Jackson on this Friday @ The George, Bradford-on-Avon. Music could be R&B, Rock'n'Roll,Ska.... who knows, anything really(?!) If by chance, you find yourself there, please say hello & I'll buy you a pint. Cheers
5.
.....I took on a crazy challenge. Formed a band in 2 minutes yesterday, we have to write 30 mins of material and play at a free gig at the croft, the other bands are slightly more professional then we are, but hey we are doing it for a larf!
Nice one Rob - think that's great! Will try to make it down there - do you know (roughly) what time you guys are due to play? Good luck!
6. Howard bought my Brandoni body off me. No nonsense straight deal, quick payment. Sound fella.

Octave

EHX Octave Multiplexer - warmer & more synthy sounding than an OC-2
8. Hooky's an obvious example of one, he'd probably admit it himself. I like his solo at the end of this
9. I use SPB-1s, been through the SPB-3 & SPB-2 didn't like them. Tried the Antiquity, but I couldn't hear a massive difference between it & the 'Vintage' SPB-1. Would like to try out a Lindy Fralin though at some point. What's best for you really depends on what tone you're after & the kind of music you're doing.
10. I still use Ebay for selling any decent old Jap copies I've picked up, that I don't want to keep. I've found that best bids come from overseas. Sold to Europe,States, Russia & even Australia, for more than what I would have got in the U.K. So far (for me) it's been worth sometimes biting the bullet on their exorbitant fees. Not happy about it though. Would like to know of an alternative, if there is one. Always worth checking though, see what you're gonna cough up if it sells. There are a few rough & ready Ebay/Paypal calculators on the net. Ecal
11.
all bujit gitarz is crap - unless it is a good bass gitar of corse, then its good crap!
That about sums it up, bang on Marcus!
12. Think the majority of the old 'budget' stuff can be considered rubbish, but there are a few gems amongst the crap. I've got a Commodore hollowbody from that period, probably made by Matsomuko. Picked it up for peanuts, gave it a set-up, fret dress etc... and it's great!

Very sad this. My thoughts are with his family & his friends.
14. Trev, Bought a jazz control plate off me. Prompt payment, no messing about - straight forward deal. Recommended Thanks Nick
15.
Reads like the Church of the Latter Day Bassists.
+1 It does feel quite 'cultish', with BP coming across almost David Koresh-like at times. Thankfully I'm P-Bass guy!
16.
Seemed to be in good condition but i wasn't sure - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290461158774 I will keep an eye out but there never seems to be many hollows on eBay!
Mmmm..... I like a fairly high action myself, but you could drive a car under those strings!
17.
I've just seen an Epiphone EA-260 go for £200 on eBay which seems a steal. What can you tell me about them? A 70s version of the Gibson hollow?
Wouldn't pay any more than that, but not bad considering it's vintage & with the Matsumoko connection, though would expect it to be in good nick. Not really a version of anything Gibson. They were a budget model at the time with bolt-on shortscale neck & totally hollow maple laminate body. Epiphone EA-260 catalogue It's similar in construction to my Commodore, no doubt same factory...which is easy to play, lightweight, good tone, fun to dig into. EA-260 Harmony reviews
18. If you fancy a proper vintage hollowbody, relatively inexpensive & that's not deep bodied .... Have you considered an Epiphone EA-260 / 5120? Alternatively, you could try looking out for an Aria 5120 or Univox,Conrad models that are believed to have come from the same factory. I picked up this late 60's Commodore a while back dirt cheap. Has a bridge dampener (need to put it back on) & ridiculously powerful 15k single coil pickup . After a bit of a set-up & some frets dressed, plays lovely & a has great tone with flats; plenty of thump, but can nail that Gnarls Barkley sound too. The only bad thing about it, is the crap tuners which I intend to change one day. They crop up on Ebay fairly frequently, worth trying IMO if you find a good one.
19. Acid House 1990 Up until then was just playing the usual bog-standard indie style basslines, but like a lot of people found myself going to certain clubs of Manchester at the time. That type of music totally opened my hears (and mind) to how a simple well played bassline, can groove so much more, than something frantic or flashy. After that, next point was rediscovering Northern Soul & Motown, which I had liked at school (was a mod); another form of dance music with great examples of interplay between bass & drums.
20.
Got an Animato for possible sale. I bought it when I went to Japan in summer 2007 and I think I've used it about 3 times. As much as I love owning something incredibly rare, I am also thinking about a new amp/bass/other effects, and I don't really use much fuzz in my band. So here's the feeler thread, does anyone want to buy I'd also consider full/part exchange with a number of things really: I'm thinking about dabbling in a low-end 6 string, considering a decent multi-fx unit and I could also do with a new amp of moderate power. I reckon the going rate for these things is somewhere in the region of £200 or so, tempt me with some offers! In addition I also have a Shin-Ei Companion FY-2 fuzz pedal. This is another rare fuzz, used by Colin Greenwood of Radiohead fame on Exit Music, Mixymatosis and others. Not quite sure of the market value of these, perhaps someone can help me out? I know they're incredibly rare though!
I sold an old Kimbara version of FY-2 sometime ago for £160 - not bad for a £2 carboot find! Though I'm no longer a fan of Ebay, think you might be best putting it on there. Obviously include the Radiohead, Jesus & the Marychain etc references in your listing, along with the usuals 'vintage' 'collectable' 'MIJ'.... You may get as much as I did. Good luck!
21.
Hi all, Have a beautiful mexican 60's re-issue Jazz which I love. My only dissapointment is the pots. Could anyone advise me on the best replacement pots to get, seems like CTS is the standard and linear for volume and audio for tone. Any advice would be much appreciated, also, would changing the pots change the tone which I don't want to do. Cheers. Ossie
CTS are generally are considered by many to be the best. 250k Log or audio for volume, & linear for tone, though most cases audio will do for all. I used these on my Precisions Not sure about pots changing the tone, some say they do.... I do like the Sprague orange drop caps though.

23. I'm breaking my Jazz/Precision hybrid. Though it's a cracking bass, can't see there being that much demand for a Jazz with P neck.... [s]Brandoni alder Jazz body. Nice weight @ 2.4kg. 24. Posted this before, but any excuse to show it again.... My Ibanez belonged to Paul Ryder from Happy Mondays. He used it on their first two albums, videos, Top of the Pops etc... & it's probably been round the World a few times prior to me getting it. If a bass could talk; this one would no doubt, have some cracking tales to tell!
25. Dep for a 'pig roast' in Colerne village, somewhere in the wilds of Wiltshire, last night. Thankfully wasn't what I imagined it to be, after seeing 'Deliverance' Open air on the back of a lorry - was a bit cold & not easy humping a Trace rig up onto it - lightweight rigs are seeming more attractive these days. Band played a mix of R&B,ska & rock'n'roll... finale was a 15 minute version of 'Born to be Wild' with a slap solo! According to the organisers there 300 people were there, but didn't look like it me. Good gig though & I enjoyed it.
