3.
I've noticed a lot of people using the word "Creative" in this thread and while i agree with some points, i disagree with others. I've seen way too many cover bands with one member being creative and the rest playing it as per the record. I think the only way to get it to work is by the group collectively being creative, otherwise, over 70% of the time it just doesn't sit right. I've always thought of it as a rugby player turning up to play football. Yeh he can keep up with the team and kick the ball but as soon as he picks the ball up he ruins the game. But if they all turned up to play rugby, it'd be a different game altogether? I know thats a crap analogy but it makes sense in my head Also, pure creativeness surely has to be writing your own songs no??
Totally agree with you... Big part of the reasoning in why I left my last band, was that it was only myself really endeavouring to learn the songs as close to the originals as possible, & putting the time in. The other members I recall, rather than using the term 'creative', used to similarly say we were 'putting our own stamp on the songs' - I think more like 'winging it'. Not good on Motown classics - some gigs I would cringe. They were all seasoned 'pros' & believed that the audience didn't notice anyway. However, they were also so [s]unrehearsed[/s] creative, that they had to use karoake tracks on their web page masquerading as our music, with the singer doing his thing over the top! Too much for me... Me offski Having said all the above, they're still getting the gigs albeit at working mens clubs around SW.... so maybe they were right, are audiences that clued up, does it matter?
  4. Shame you're not closer & local pick-up only
  5.
That's priceless - it has me smiling broadly and stifling a giggle
It's brilliant. Has a Gareth Cheeseman vibe to it.

    Mick Karn

    Terrible news.
  7.
You say an overdrive might not fit, but I think otherwise. Not something like the Boss Bass Overdrive of course which is actually a nasty sounding distortion pedal, but a nice low gain overdrive tomake your hybrid terror sound more like a proper vintage tube amp. I also play P-Basses with flats into an Orange Terror and have tried nearly every overdrive pedal going and I reckon for your application you can't beat the Catalinbread SFT, which for vintage thump with extra hairy balls, slays the VT Bass every time.
+1 : Was thinking exactly the same, definitely try an SFT. I sometimes play the same set-up, P-Bass with flats into a TE (hybrid) V-Type through an SFT clone; great for old school tones.
  8. Thanks Pete , looking forward to going through these!
  9.
..... but virtually all the action is in the last 60 degrees of the pot. I'm not sure if that's normal or due to some duff assembly work!
Good review. Regarding everything happening right at the end of the pot.... I think thats 'normal' & not down to the build etc. Guessing its a 5K log pot(?), maybe swapping it for a linear one could even it out a bit. Cheers
  10. I love Alan Spenner's tone in Roxy Music, equally George Murray (Bowie)

    Qtron+ Too Loud!!
Hello I bought a used Qtron+ off a fellow bass chatter and now i have had a chance to use it in a rehearsal I have come to find its just too loud and I am unable to reduce the volume anymore, even when I turn the internal trimpot down. Switching from Low Pass to Mixed doesnt seem to make a difference either. Nor does playing softly. Is this a faulty Qtron+ or are they all like it? Cheers.
Hi No, its not faulty - they all do it. See Qtron volume thread here for discussion on the issue. Another option to control the volume spikes, would be put a limiter pedal after it. Something like the cheap Behringer one would no doubt tame it.
  12. WTF was Wanda Jackson on?!
  13. Bump to give your bass a New Year treat with some zing from these lovely fresh d'Addarios!
  14.
Once again, I'm allotting "honorary JapCrap" status to the Gherson brand. This is quite interesting: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970S-ITALIAN-BASS-G...=item4aa768043d
Half tempted to this. Whilst working in Naples a few years ago, I tried one that belonged to a friend. Quite a nice bass, I recall - wish I'd bought it off him. It's a Gherson 'Finger Picar' - daft name or what!
  15. Rare occasion I use a pick, I like a Dunlop Tortex Wedge 0.60mm (orange)
  16. A year ending bump for these 'punchy' pickups @ the bargainous price of half that on a new set!
  17. Andy from Wizard rewound the bridge pickup on my old Japcrap Kimbara jazz copy to RWRP, as well increasing it a touch, making it sympathetic to neck pickup. Excellent job, really happy with the result, very quick turnaround too.
  18. Posted this before... but here's some 'cheap & nasty' (hollow body) porn; my 60's Commodore. I think related to the Epiphone EA-260. Had this out & been playing it a fair bit lately.
  19. Grew up on The Smiths, still love all their albums, though I have to be in the right mood to listen to them. Andy Rourke was & still is a massively underrated bass player. This is them getting funky!
  20.
Deon, Brilliant player, Wham, Great band, Great songs amazing brass arrangements.
+1
  21.
Apologies, no offense intended. It was an attempt at humour based on my cloth ears not being able to tell the difference between the various types of caps I've used. I'm happy to delete the post if you think it could be seen as a dig.
No problem & no offense taken. There are already threads of debates & thoughts on PIO caps on this forum & elsewhere. Just believe (in general) that someone's for sale post is not the right place for expressing a subjective opinion. Its something I've never done myself. The BCers who've had these caps from me are satisfied, & thankfully don't have cloth ears.
  22.
What kind of snake did the oil come from?
Sorry Jean-Luc, don't understand your comment - could you please clarify?
  23. *SOLD* Mods could you please remove Many thanks
  24.
I know this will sound like a narrow minded, ill thought out reply but to me the bass guitar is a four stringed instrument.
Same here, sorry!
