Been on the cards for the last couple of years. Last I heard was that the company making the film was after further financial backing to finish it.
.... The main difference is that one of the first questions I ask about a new gig venue these days is "It's not an upstairs room is it?"
Yeah, thats me too. Hit 42 about a month ago. I can have the best of both follicle worlds; balding & grey! However, been shaving my head down to a zero for last twenty years, so most people haven't a clue. Personally OK with getting old. Despite having bit less stamina, bad recovery rate & sometimes feeling a bit achey - I'm at least not making the same stupid, sometimes painful mistakes that I used to do.
I'm building a P at the mo. Got some US pick ups last week on the bay for £25 and got a brand new vintage maple All parts neck off a guy privately for £104 with 60's decal (awaiting arrival) - he has more for sale!!!. I'm using my sonic blue Sue Ryder P body & bridge with P bridge ash tray. Also using a tort pickguard i picked up here for a £10. My aim is to make some thing like this 60's P: I'd like to relic next
Doing exactly the same myself to my sonic blue Sue Ryder bass. Swapped out the pickup for a Wizard Trad that I found cheap. Also, changed the pots, added a PIO tone cap & fitted a nice cream pearloid scratchplate. Was happy with the neck from a playing point of view, but it doesn't like the high tension La Bellas i use. So as I've gone this far modding it, I've decided to put a R/W Mighty Mite, nitro'd with a '63 logo, on it. Also £104 - probably from the same guy. Hopefully will turn out to be good P-Bass, when its all done. Not sure about relic'ing it though!

*SOLD - PENDING PAYMENT* Selling this as I have no real use for it - I never stray too far away from my amp! Its in good condition, works fine, never had any issues or problems with it & sounds OK. Here's some blurp on it, which I've lifted from another website: The Samson Airline AP1B UHF Bass Guitar System eliminates body packs with a tiny micro transmitter that plugs right into the bass guitar. The Samson Airline AP1B system’s receiver is designed to easily integrate into an effect pedal setup and features a shape circuitry yielding a fat bottom end and fullness never before heard in a wireless system for bass. The revolutionary AirLine "plug-in" AG1 transmitter comes is designed for traditional end-mount inputs. Less than half the size of conventional body packs, this miniaturized transmitter runs on a tiny triple-A battery with 14-hours of battery life. It features an array of on-board controls: A Power On/Off and Mute switch, red/green LED for Power On/Off, a Peak LED and an Input Level control for different pickups. And UHF (Ultra High Frequency) means clearer frequencies with less interference. Designed for use with your compact effect pedals, the APB1 pedal receiver gives you reception you can always depend on. It features a 1/4" output jack, Power switch, Peak LED and a Volume control. You can use a 9 volt battery or an AC adapter to power the receiver. When you unplug your the unit, the battery is disabled to conserve power.
look what i picked up yesterday, complete with the most evil bridge man has ever made cimar jazz bass 1908ash model.
Nice score. I had a 1908 too, up until a short while ago. They're nice jazz basses. Swapped the bridge on mine out for one of those no-name high mass ones & changed the pickups for some cheap Seymour Duncan designed JB-1's from a Squier VMJ, which were an improvement. Have a love/hate thing for jazz basses, so sold it to a German guy for a good price, though wish I still had it sometimes - it was a cracking bass! If you're on Facebook, there's a few good pages, run by afficianados of Motown, Northern Soul etc that regularly post some interesting & less heard classics. I like this one Soul-Motown All the Way with DJ Flo
I put an EMG in one of my precisions in the mid 80s, but took it out as it sounded a bit characterless and muffled almost as if there was a compressor killing all the attack and dynamics. I put it back in a few years ago after reading that they can take more than a single 9v battery. Powered by 18v it sounds transparent and almost like a passive pickup but bigger,. Its worth trying the double battery trick - you can make a harness from 3x9v battery snap-clips for mere pennies from Maplin. I found that I couldn't actually fit two of the usual 9v batteries in my precision and I didn't want to route it out at all, so I stuffed a load of button cells (obtained by opening up a couple of 12v car alarm 'plipper' batteries) into an AAA holder and soldered on a snap-clip.
Thats interesting, powering them with 18v. Not that familiar with this pickup, but an old Antoria fretless P-Bass I've recently acquired has got an EMG in it - really like the tone, suits this bass. However, rather than put another battery in there, think I might try it with a tiny DIY voltage doubler, will easily fit anywhere under the pickguard.
Nice bass ... I'm not that much of a precision buff (so you might need to educate me) ... but didn't the migration of the 'rest' from bottom to top happen mid-70's ? If so how come this one is at the top ... do the RIs come that way ? Andy
Well spotted Andy, thanks ... knew there was something I forgot to mention in the upgrades & mods! Yes, thumbrest added also.

I haven't either, photo doesn't show it too well, but its actually more orangey than the usual fiesta red. Guess made to look aged/faded.

Low tension flatwounds, cheap as possible!!!
nick replied to lemmywinks's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yeah i'm a bit wary of putting higher tension strings on it because someone had a dodgy neck, not that i like power cables on any of my basses! That's why i thought a used set of TIs would be good. What are the Status ones like?
I usually use 49-109 La Bellas or 50-105 Chromes, guess quite heavy. Put a spare set of similar high tension 50-110 Webstrings flats on the Ryder bass, set it up, played nicely. Went off for an hour to do something, came back to find the neck going like a banana, detuned itself to Eb! TBH I have no idea what Status flats are like, other than fairly positive comments on here, but they're relatively cheap, understand not mega high tension & reckon the bass will (just) manage with a set of 45-105s. I've got TIs on another bass & they're good for that, but (for me) need a bit more tension on a P-Bass. So I'm hoping the Status flats will be a good compromise on the Ryder bass. -
2004 Fender CIJ '62 RI, bought off Lee650 on here some time ago Upgraded tuners, CTS pots, PIO tone cap, Seymour Duncan SPB-1 'Vintage' pickup, covers added.... otherwise standard Strung with La Bella flats. Its not a heavy bass; a nice weight & a lovely neck to play - a good bass for long gigs.

Could be worth checking that the truss rod isn't maxed out. There again that wouldn't necessarily put me off buying it....

Low tension flatwounds, cheap as possible!!!
nick replied to lemmywinks's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm probably going to put Status flats on mine. This bass does not like high tension La Bellas, Chromes or similar - I found out! -
Nope I'm not saying that. I am categorically saying (not implying) that he isn't very good. I'm not saying that what he comes up with sometimes isn't bad though - I have even gone as far as paying him for his bother on occasions. He plays as good as he needs to. I've never seen any him evolve beyond that which he needs for his style of playing. Most of us have had to struggle to get better and better so we can deliver our best effort when we get our big break. Hooky achieved fame and fortune (???) early into his foray into music and stuck - perhaps by design, perhaps by reaching the zenith of his talent. Please take 10 seconds to understand what I'm saying rather than opposing it because you think I'm flaming the man.
I think you're summed it up well there, bang-on & I'm a NO & JD fan myself. When I first picked up a bass, found Hooky quite inspirational. After all, he did up the profile of bass guitar in a genre other than funk or jazz etc, where the instrument had a lot more recognition. Despite being well into New Order right up until their demise, must admit the obligatory high end chorused lead bass playing started to bore me. Suppose I tend to prefer more of their stuff where you don't hear pretty much the same bass riff, guess more of the electronic dancey side of their material. Also got the impression from comments made by Barney at various points in their career that even he might have fancied hearing something different basswise. What he's doing in that clip from OP is just awful.
