Is anyone on here capable of fixing my EHX Q-Tron pedal? I took it to bits a while ago to rehouse it, and have since lost the gut shots I took as a reference and the will to complete this project. I am am looking for someone that could put it back together, mod it for true bypass and possibly rehouse it in a small enclosure. If anyone can help that would be great.
Where are you based mate?
Are you sure about the true bypass mod? That's a 24 volt pedal and has arguably a very high quality buffer in there. If I kept only one 'buffer' stage on my current board then it would be this one.
Thats interesting to hear. I found mine to really suck the tone when not on, didn't like it, so I bypass modded mine. I also added a level control to tame some of the volume spikes & swapped out the red LED for green one, wired up to indicate when the effect is actually on. Reminds me, I've got to get a matching EHX knob for the new control.
had a Trace 4x12" from the Valve series and it was a beast of a cab both in terms of weight and sound - 45kg which some on here think is far too heavy
I use one, love it. Though I do sometimes wonder why!
Wouldn't it be interesting to do a comparison - something like a Shergold Marathon or early Wal, paired with an HH combo or Sound City 50 Plus...and a late 70s P or J with an Acoustic or Polytone? I've got a feeling the Brit gear would stack up pretty well. At the time most players spent a fortune getting the US gear, but I wonder if we've all changed over the last two or three decades? When's the Bristol bass bash I wonder?
That would be interesting Duncan.... Think it depends on sort of tone someone's after really. H/H amps are never going to be 'hi-fi' quality! I'm gonna give this combo a go at the next small pub gig. For R&B,pub rock etc... reckon it & P-Bass with flats may do the job. Will certainly be less hassle than carting the V-Type rig about! For other gigs, I probably wouldn't use it. Though I'm tempted to put the spare 15" Kappalite I've got knocking around in it, just to see how it sounds.
My first cab was a HH with 2 15s. Make no mistake, it was dreadful. Weighed a ton, just wooly rumble. I put different speakers(Celestions) in it with only minimal improvement. The only thing it was good for was turning at my Halls of Residence for the first time and watching the look of horror on my new neighbours faces! It finally died at a gig in Nottingham and I remember chucking it in the skip at the dump and driving off seeing it sticking out of the top in my rear view mirror. Good riddance. Came across plenty of pubs and village halls with HH amps as well at the time. Rubbish. Don't let time fool you- they're terrible.
TBH never had any real experience of their cabs. However, I did like the V-S Bassamp head I had many years ago, & the little combo (above) I just picked up, whilst not being in the same ballpark as anything like MB,GK etc, does sound OK to my ears, certainly not 'rubbish'. It's loud enough for pub gigs, fairly flexible EQ, quite punchy & clean sounding. Not sure if that constitutes it being 'terrible'(?)
-
Just bagged a H/H Studio 60B 'Bass Baby' for £30. Surprisingly loud for its size & very punchy. Buit in compressor, parametric EQ & bi-amp outs too! Like the look of it, quite 80's retro IMO. Its a tad noisy, so I'm gonna give it a look over this weekend, but I'm happy with it.
Anyone for a 70's Maya telecaster bass...in very nice condition???
Is it 34" scale & at a sensible price?
..... Considering JH has made a big thing about having trademarked ALL of Rickenbacker's key design elements, I was even more surprised to find that in the US that's only expanded to cover the headstock and body designs, the Rickenbacker logo, as well as the horseshoe and toaster pickups
Tell me about it! I had to remove a listing on ebay for a 330 copy three times, even after just showing a close-up photo of it's toaster pickup! The third time had no photos at all, but JH also strongly objected to the use of 'copy of... Weller, Townsend, McGuinn & Lennon' in the title description! He even sent me a cease & desist message, calling me a counterfeiter & describing my actions as 'sneaky' & 'cynical'. I like that Shaftesbury though, been after one of those for a while - not sure about the price(?). Anybody else on here going after it?

Celso (setekh), Bought a MIJ Squier off me. Good coms & quick payer - no messing about. Thoroughly recommended. Thanks Nick

I've got CTS pots on most of my basses. Think I know what you mean, in that they're as not as 'slick' as a lot of stock pots initially(?) Don't mind this myself, but they do move more freely with time & use.

Best compliment I've ever had, was a couple of years ago, after a gig at some place in Swindon, actually from someone on here, that I reminded him of Tony Levin (?!) After which checking out Tony Levin, concluded that the comparison was probably more to do with the fact I have a slaphead, & was sporting a moustache at the time.

Since they revamped a short while ago, it has gone down the sh*tt*r. Not easy to find specific reviews. The HC forum has quite a few threads from users saying pretty much the same.
-
As above, would recommend Bitsbox for as much as you can get from them. Maplin's a last resort for me - bad service, overpriced & very little product knowledge. Regarding, the 3PDT footswitch - Ebay's the best for those, & knobs IMO.
I thought we were trying to find the most popular pedals? I could add a dozen more to my list (and for God's sake keep Tayste2000 away from this!) but where's the point? For example, Max makes really great pedals but [sfx] is never going to outsell Boss or EHX, so I haven't listed any of the three [sfx] pedals that live on my board.
Some good points there.... Is this a poll on most popular brand or the type of pedal? For example, a lot of people have clones of a fair few on that list i.e. Woolly Mammoth etc...Would that be a separate entry or be included in the count for the Zvex original?

I like it. Very good.

Also post-Beatles, I like the stuff he's done with Youth as 'The Fireman'.

Friend of mine's got me into Holy f***. So that's on the menu at the moment. Really liking their stuff, quite varied....

I reckon certain envelope filters might get you in the ball park, but you're probably better off, putting the question over to the effects section for a more definitive answer. Cheers
