Always get my Lo-Riders & La Bellas from some eBay dealers in the States. Significantly cheaper

Usually buy stuff of here, if it's something I want. Selling-wise depends what it is.... If it's MIJ stuff, always Ebay.
To the OP.... REALLY..??? I accept that they were ok at the time but that was in a very shallow pool of anything decent. My local studio has a combo for use so I can attest to their present day use...and all I'd say is I lug my gear up or use an Ashdown combo which knocks it into a cocked-hat..and that thing has had a caning and runs out of puff around 3.5khz... Sorry.........just a counter-view..!!
Really? That's interesting.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will try turning the pups around and see what results that brings. Nick - you suggest changing the pups to Seymour Duncan 'Vintage'. Are these the SBP-1's and are they a straight fit or does it require the pick guard to be filed out a little? I've read elsewhere on the forum that some folks have needed to do this but I'm not clear if this is for the Seymour Duncan or other replacements. Just out of interest what gauge LaBellas have you used on your Pbass?
I like SPB-1's, they're not too expensive & have a good honest P-Bass tone IMO. Got one in my old Tokai too. My Sue Ryder/Mighty Mite mongrel which has a Wizard Trad, which I think is also good. Went in my basses with no issues fit-wise. I think La Bellas are good for Soul bass tones, but I don't think they're the only brand that will get that. Any decent flats should get you there. I like 49-109, but some find them too heavy, again it's down to what you find comfortable to play, don't think gauge necessarily dictates tone. Here's my baby... 2004 Fender CIJ '62 RI, Upgraded tuners, CTS pots, PIO tone cap, Seymour Duncan SPB-1 'Vintage' pickup, covers & thumbrest added.... otherwise standard Strung with La Bella flats, foam under bridge. Its not a heavy bass; a nice weight & a lovely neck to play - a good bass for long gigs.

Does sound like its the pickup, if you checked the string, EQ etc.... I know you want to keep it original, but TBH the pickups in those CIJ's are nothing special IMHO. Personally would swap it out for something better like a Wizard Trad or a Seymour Duncan 'Vintage' anyway. That's what I have in my CIJ '62 RI - with the La Bellas, it nails that Motown/Stax tone.
Where would I collect from?
I'm Bristol based.
Lovely bass, and am sorely tempted. Can you tell me how it sits, is it head heavy? Payday next Friday........
It balances surprisingly well, with no noticeable neckdive to me (I wear it about waist height). No doubt, thankfully due to it being shorter scale. -
Nice, If this one is still for sale when i get my tax return (at the end of this month) i'll take it! This looks like a nice little bass to take on the road to places where i don't want to take my precious Modulus Flea. do you have an idea of shipping costs to mainland EU? regards, Don.
Hi Don, Shipping to Belgium (tracked & insured) would be about £35 Thanks Nick -
Hi & welcome. £150 should easily get you an alright bass. If I come across anything worthwhile, will give you a shout also. Cheers
Bargain - that's about half the cost new One of the few epiphones I haven't played - by the way the pickups are positioned, it looks like it would sound a bit like an explorer without being unweildy like a explorer
I haven't seen any new ones around for a while. All the shops with Flying V basses that I've seen on the web, show either out of stock or discontinued(?) It does have a surprisingly big sound, for such a small body. -

This is my old bass.... The term 'Precision killer' is overused, but a lot of Fender owners would probably relegate their P-Basses after playing this. Tempted to snatch it back myself, but current financial circumstances are not permitting - I miss this Blazer! Whoever buys it, wont be disappointed.
I'd give the girl a chance to shine, if you can find some songs that work for her. If you can't then you have a decision to make. I would guess you are all feeliing a little frustrated by the feedback you get but well done for putting the vids up for appraisal Myself, I don't care what it takes behind closed doors to make something work live and no one needs to know... as long as the end result is good. Getting the band as a whole to reconcile with that critique takes a bit of maturity and a few diplomatic moves though as no one likes to be taken apart.
+1. All good advice. There are definite moments in there, where there's 'potential'. Give her a chance I say! This is making us all sound like Simon Cowells isn't it?!
yep.. im a DR fanboy.. the best string/s available IMO.. Low Riders for me..
+1 Same here, Lo-Riders have restored my faith in rounds & made an old Tokai P-Bass of mine (which I was thinking of selling) a joy to play again, with a killer tone.

Looking for a new maple neck for my Squier.
I've got a guy who does Mighty might necks with fitted Fender decals and finished, usually go for around £105-110. I'm going to buy another maple precision neck off him soon as the first one i purchased was an awesome neck and a lot like a MIJ P neck that i used to own, top quality indeed. I can PM you his email details if your interested.
+1 I used this chap also for a Mighty Mite neck to on a Sue Ryder bass body. Recommended. -
You could try a lighter gauge of La Bellas, 49-109's(?) Alternatively, if it's that you've still got some saddle movement left but the windings are preventing any more adjustment back, try placing a small nut on the backend of the bridge. & thread the string through it. I had this problem on an Epiphone Flying V bass, apparently its common with it & Epiphone Thunderbird bridges too. With the strings going through small nuts & then the bridge, I've got enough to adjust the saddles back to intonate without the windings going over them. Hope this makes sense(?)

Bombast is an all time favourite of mine too, but Two Librans, Gut of the Quantifier & M5#1 are also doing for it me at the moment. Love Infotainment Scan too.

First amp was a V-S head, loved that amp. Stupidly P/X'd it for a Session 4x10 combo, which I hated. Would love to find another V-S at a reasonable price.
