1.
I've thought the same thing (Alembic F2B in a box...no valves?)
Alembic F2B is supposed to be similar. You could always get someone to build one for you Alembic F2B schematic. Along with the SFT, there's also the 'Flipster'. One on here for sale at the moment. Next on my list of pedal builds. ..... Also the Barber Linden EQ, if you're after more of the tone rather than any drive.

  5. Julian, Bought some PIO caps off me. Smooth transaction - no hassle. Recommended. Cheers Nick
  6.
....For this reason I'd strongly recommend looking after this bass, don't alter anything (especially the logo!) and keep it in good condition.
+100 - cherish that bass. I had a 70's Maya 4001S copy. It was beautifully made, total quality & great sounding. Unfortunately, I don't get on with Rickenbackers, but it did sell for a very good price, with many offers.
  7.
......the Squier is a nice bass BUT I would guess that the Fender version would be better.
Not necessarily. If your 1989 Squier is a good one (most were), I'd definitely hold on to it. You can always upgrade the pickups, if you feel the need to.
  8. Having a rest from selling these. 9. I'd be up for attending one or two myself also. There's a site for Bristol open mic , but anyone know of the good ones?
  10.
....my question is has anyone tried a .1uF in their P bass

I would think that a 0.1 uF cap in the circuit would just give a muffled decrease in output when you turn the tone knob down. Now you won't be wanting that will you?
I have a 0.1uF paper-in-oil cap in my P-Bass. Don't hear it as muffled myself, find it gives plenty of thump, but still defined. Great for Motown or dub. Admittedly can be too much sometimes. I've got the usual .047uF in another precision. Love PIO caps.
  11. On Jazz basses pots are generally solid shaft as the knobs are usually ones with the grub screws. I've got to get a set of CTS ones myself for an old Kimbara jazz copy I just bought. The tone pot can be either log or linear (same value 250k), but if you like to use the tone control (I do); you'll probably find linear pot to be better. You get less of a gradual change in tone with a log - more of a drop off. However, if you dont use it much, I don't think it matters TBH. Caps are usually 0.047uF, but you can experiment. I've got a paper in oil (PIO) cap 0.1uF in one my P-Basses for a real motown thump, whilst in others I've got 0.047 Orange drops & PIO.
  12. Sorry to be boring, but I have to say; I honestly don't judge a band by their gear, age, look or image etc..prior to actually hearing them. I give them two or three songs (as the first song with any band can sometimes be ropey) before I decide whether or not they're my cup of tea. Sometimes a band can be a pleasant surprise.
  13. Playing with my mate's band; Hot Dog Jackson on this Friday @ The George, Bradford-on-Avon. Music could be R&B, Rock'n'Roll,Ska.... who knows, anything really(?!) If by chance, you find yourself there, please say hello & I'll buy you a pint. Cheers
  14.
.....I took on a crazy challenge. Formed a band in 2 minutes yesterday, we have to write 30 mins of material and play at a free gig at the croft, the other bands are slightly more professional then we are, but hey we are doing it for a larf!
Nice one Rob - think that's great! Will try to make it down there - do you know (roughly) what time you guys are due to play? Good luck!
  15. Howard bought my Brandoni body off me. No nonsense straight deal, quick payment. Sound fella.

    Octave

EHX Octave Multiplexer - warmer & more synthy sounding than an OC-2
  17. Hooky's an obvious example of one, he'd probably admit it himself. I like his solo at the end of this
  18. I use SPB-1s, been through the SPB-3 & SPB-2 didn't like them. Tried the Antiquity, but I couldn't hear a massive difference between it & the 'Vintage' SPB-1. Would like to try out a Lindy Fralin though at some point. What's best for you really depends on what tone you're after & the kind of music you're doing.
  19. I still use Ebay for selling any decent old Jap copies I've picked up, that I don't want to keep. I've found that best bids come from overseas. Sold to Europe,States, Russia & even Australia, for more than what I would have got in the U.K. So far (for me) it's been worth sometimes biting the bullet on their exorbitant fees. Not happy about it though. Would like to know of an alternative, if there is one. Always worth checking though, see what you're gonna cough up if it sells. There are a few rough & ready Ebay/Paypal calculators on the net. Ecal
  20.
all bujit gitarz is crap - unless it is a good bass gitar of corse, then its good crap!
That about sums it up, bang on Marcus!
  21. Think the majority of the old 'budget' stuff can be considered rubbish, but there are a few gems amongst the crap. I've got a Commodore hollowbody from that period, probably made by Matsomuko. Picked it up for peanuts, gave it a set-up, fret dress etc... and it's great!

Very sad this. My thoughts are with his family & his friends.
  23. Trev, Bought a jazz control plate off me. Prompt payment, no messing about - straight forward deal. Recommended Thanks Nick
  24.
Reads like the Church of the Latter Day Bassists.
+1 It does feel quite 'cultish', with BP coming across almost David Koresh-like at times. Thankfully I'm P-Bass guy!
  25.
Seemed to be in good condition but i wasn't sure - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290461158774 I will keep an eye out but there never seems to be many hollows on eBay!
Mmmm..... I like a fairly high action myself, but you could drive a car under those strings!
