  1. Maybe, just maybe I was being flippant…
  2. I definitely try and reduce the impact by…mainly buying used basses! 🤣
  3. Yep, spend some time measuring and researching what is similar in measurements (nut width, neck dimensions, body style etc) if you want somewhere near similar to what you have currently. Likewise on pickup placement. If you’re a finger style player and anchor your thumb on the top of the pickup, changing the pickup layout on your next bass will require a little readjustment on your part. Not a deal breaker but worth mentioning for a new or newish player. Also +1 for used. The OLP Levin mentioned above that’s available in the classifieds would be a good option. As would the 5 string MusicMan SUB in the classifieds. Both in the £300-£500 category and both a hell of a lot of bass for the money. While you haven’t got the distance selling option on used gear, you’ll likely not lose out on those examples financially at least should you decide to then move it on either…
  4. No number is too many. Personally it’s whether I think the number of them I have is just daft or, as others have said, it causes financial issues on ‘real world’ stuff. I’m at 7 and all (to me) do a sufficiently different thing to warrant me keeping them all, and also means there’s a better chance of me playing them all to some degree at times. I also set myself the challenge now that if I’m buying anything I sell something to at least partly finance it. I sure don’t ‘need’ another bass so one (or more) out, one in works and helps keep me in check. It also acts as a rationalising exercise.
  5. Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself. Seems fairly clear you’re not the issue here. All depends if you think it’s worth fighting for really. What does the rhythm player think? And the drummer? Can’t be fun being drowned out and working to and bending to the whims on the fly of someone who can’t be arsed to learn the song structures. That ain’t got a damn thing to do with being a ‘feel player.’
  6. +1 to this. Had need to contact Fender UK/Europe quite recently. Very helpful and a speedy response by email.
  7. I look forward to seeing this in other finishes - a brown or olive called weaning baby poo; a white called 80s dog crap; a black called no 50 pences for the leccy meter; a red called Burned English man on the Med I mean, the possibilities really are endless.
  8. Like the look of these cabs. GLWTS. PS - you may want to edit your ad based on the impedance shown in the pics.
  9. Only own passive basses. Volume dimed, tone dimed. Regardless of what the pickup/s is/are. Unless there’s a J pickup, in which case that’s turned right off. Its the way I’ve always been with basses. Everything open, with any changes needed thereafter being tweaked at amp stage.
  10. Fair Deal is just a couple of miles up the road from me. I saw this, considered and stroked my chin a good deal then bought a JMJ instead which I absolute love. After reading this I believe equilibrium is restored!
  11. Yep. Exactly that. Sounds great on both guitar (in the brief dalliance I’ve had) and bass. Cracking bit of kit.
  12. TC Spark TC Mojomojo Mooer Noise Killer Mooer Ninety Orange phaser
  13. Separate channels via footswitch at present. There is a footswitch that comes with the preamp but I’m switching via a Bright Onions ABY on my board.
  14. Not got a shot ‘in the wild’, but here’s mine. Doing a bass/drums noisy two-piece thing currently. Very happy with this setup for it, and the first time I’ve gone down the rack route. Crown XLS 1502 Power amp and Hilbish Design Beta Preamp (doubt there are many in the UK. I got very lucky finding this I think given the high shipping and import fees). Using both channels, each going to separate cabs. Channel 1 dirty bass (from the drive on the preamp), Channel 2 routed through an octave up, dirtbox and other stuff. The photo doesn’t do the preamp justice either, it’s a lovely black sparkle finish Sounds gloriously massive.
  15. That’s a cracker. Much prefer them with the Limelight logo on them personally. GLWTS.
  16. Damn, two weeks too late to have saved me £170 on a new one. Regardless, I absolutely love mine, they’re great basses. This should fly! GLWTS.
  17. Hey @kingforaday, this thread is ace! Congratulations, both on this score and your collection.
  18. I take my hat off to those who are kind enough to share basses out, you’re genuinely warm-hearted people. Not for me though. For me these days it’s neither my fault or problem if you’re not prepared enough for the gig you’re playing. If you’ve blown your amp up, go through the desk. If you’ve knackered your bass and don’t have a backup, well there’s a very important lesson you’ve learned. And if I lend you a bass a) I don’t know you so therefore it’s something of a liability and b) you likely won’t learn that important lesson… I do love that many of you are so much nicer than me though!
  19. I went this route the best part of 20 years ago with a Precision. It was a great move for me. The band I was in at the time called for heavy downtuning or a B string. I’ve never been a fan of floppy downtuned strings and couldn’t get on with a 5 string at all at the time. New nut, bit of truss rod adjustment etc and a set of Ernie Ball Beefy Slinkys and I never looked back. It’s still strung that way now, sounds like thunder and remained my main bass well after that band split up. Only isn’t now as I’ve shifted to shortys in my current band. Not tried it yet with a s/s but it has crossed my mind.
  20. No, but I do very much wish I’d pursued my desire to buy one of the short lived Waterstone Sandman basses back when they were a thing. The scrolled horn on these (obvs copped from the Premier Multivox that MS is playing in this vid) is something I’ve always dug in a weird and wonderful kind of way.
  21. I’m no fan of the gurning bass face and playing to the camera stylings of most of the Insta/TikTok crowd if I’m honest, even when the playing is out of this world. I love this vid though. The difference? She actually genuinely looks like she’s having fun…
  22. Jeez, that’s bloody lovely looking! Love the visual of a P pickup on it. Enjoy!
  23. Yeah, most domestic suppliers have them on back order, as so many guitars and basses are at the moment. I got mine from Thomann. 5/6 days from order to delivery and ordering back to being really easy from there now they’ve got their ducks lined up on the Brexit stuff. £969 delivered. None in stock in the UK for close to that price from what I found.
