Digitech Whammy Ricochet is another possible option? Will do 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and octave (up or down).

I’m exactly the same. As a ‘normal’ standard/heavy use bass I’ve never been able to gel with Jazz basses. Fretless though they sound and feel ‘right’ to me somehow. Maybe it’s in my head, I don’t know. Nice lineup, anyhow!

The disappointment that he’s not opened a brewery instead.

Agree on the jazz-tinged ska suggestion from what I heard just now. Not that it’s always best to reverse engineer these things but didn’t you (or whoever sorted the upload) have to put one or two identifying genres as part of the process? Might kind of answer the question for you…

Wooten seemed to do OK with his first try recently. https://bassmagazine.com/artists/victor-wooten-makes-some-funk-e-magic-with-his-reverb-mystery-box-watch

Indeed. Sometimes what I hold is shorter, sometimes longer. Not only that but I find the girth differs too when I put my hand around it. Occasionally I may pop on a G string etc etc. David, Smell the Glove is here…

Are there any BassChatters who make Custom Scratchplates?

eBay seller earliplanz will make them for anything and is decent and reasonable based on my limited experience. -
I think in your original post you actually raised some very valid questions in fairness. Though, also in fairness, to liken yourself to Greta Thunberg in whatever small way for the some of the responses to your post when you literally said in your opening post that it was “for the sake of argument” is maybe a tad OTT. Regardless, as an extension to those valid points, to make the vast majority of these basses work to their full potential we need electricity. It’s all worthy of consideration, and being mindful of, but it’s a never ending rabbit hole too I guess.

Sorry but that really does read like a trade! Seriously though I can see why, they really are great basses.

Maybe, just maybe I was being flippant…

I definitely try and reduce the impact by…mainly buying used basses! 🤣

Yep, spend some time measuring and researching what is similar in measurements (nut width, neck dimensions, body style etc) if you want somewhere near similar to what you have currently. Likewise on pickup placement. If you’re a finger style player and anchor your thumb on the top of the pickup, changing the pickup layout on your next bass will require a little readjustment on your part. Not a deal breaker but worth mentioning for a new or newish player. Also +1 for used. The OLP Levin mentioned above that’s available in the classifieds would be a good option. As would the 5 string MusicMan SUB in the classifieds. Both in the £300-£500 category and both a hell of a lot of bass for the money. While you haven’t got the distance selling option on used gear, you’ll likely not lose out on those examples financially at least should you decide to then move it on either…

No number is too many. Personally it’s whether I think the number of them I have is just daft or, as others have said, it causes financial issues on ‘real world’ stuff. I’m at 7 and all (to me) do a sufficiently different thing to warrant me keeping them all, and also means there’s a better chance of me playing them all to some degree at times. I also set myself the challenge now that if I’m buying anything I sell something to at least partly finance it. I sure don’t ‘need’ another bass so one (or more) out, one in works and helps keep me in check. It also acts as a rationalising exercise.

Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself. Seems fairly clear you’re not the issue here. All depends if you think it’s worth fighting for really. What does the rhythm player think? And the drummer? Can’t be fun being drowned out and working to and bending to the whims on the fly of someone who can’t be arsed to learn the song structures. That ain’t got a damn thing to do with being a ‘feel player.’

+1 to this. Had need to contact Fender UK/Europe quite recently. Very helpful and a speedy response by email.

Is this the worst name for a bass guitar finish ever?
mr4stringz replied to Eldon Tyrell's topic in Bass Guitars
I look forward to seeing this in other finishes - a brown or olive called weaning baby poo; a white called 80s dog crap; a black called no 50 pences for the leccy meter; a red called Burned English man on the Med I mean, the possibilities really are endless. -

Only own passive basses. Volume dimed, tone dimed. Regardless of what the pickup/s is/are. Unless there’s a J pickup, in which case that’s turned right off. Its the way I’ve always been with basses. Everything open, with any changes needed thereafter being tweaked at amp stage.

Fair Deal is just a couple of miles up the road from me. I saw this, considered and stroked my chin a good deal then bought a JMJ instead which I absolute love. After reading this I believe equilibrium is restored!

Yep. Exactly that. Sounds great on both guitar (in the brief dalliance I’ve had) and bass. Cracking bit of kit.
