  1. Not read the whole thread so unsure if repeating anything said by anyone else but here’s my two penneth. Either/or... 1) Work with it and make it a feature of the band. In the heavyish realm at least Pantera stand out as a band that left the bass to do its thing under a solitary guitar, often even in the studio. 2) Add a second channel with a T-Rex Quint machine and some dirt, with the Quint set to 100% wet at an octave and also a fifth above. Both of the above have worked in bands I’ve been in, to my ears at least.

I didn’t in the end, life got in the way! Also didn’t get as far as getting the price. It was (hopefully still is) at Cardigan Music Centre in lovely West Wales. Curious shop filled with wild and wonderful old instruments according to my daughter...

Thanks so much all. And also, in terms of a support group I love that BC continues to be the opposite of the equivalent of the 12 step program. 🤣

After posting I’m now fighting the urge to enquire further. This bloody site! 🤣🤣🤣

Yup, looks about right. Nice one. It does actually look pretty damn cool in that pic!

Any clue? Snapped by my daughter on holiday as she thought it may be of interest. It’s not really but unusual for me to have sight of something, even junk type stuff, I’ve not at least seen before.
  7. All excellent points made here. Here’s my experience - I’ve played with the same drummer (also my best mate) in bands on and off for 20 years. The two of us are always on the same page and live playing as a rhythm section together. When we decided to walk from our last band (the usual woolly no commitment or even minimum effort stuff from the other half of the band) we decided we could t keep putting up with the BS. We’re now a two piece, I’ve delved into pedals more to help make it work, stepped up to the mic for the first time ever and, despite not playing for 6 mths at all (and barely in over 12) I couldn’t be happier. Doubt I’ll ever play with other musicians now in a ‘proper’ band context now.
  8. Man, that’s rough. Sorry to hear. Looking forward to a new bass arrival only to get that letdown would peeve me immensely. Are you having a replacement same model or refund out of interest?
  9. Wasn’t from me tbh. I just wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation to be absurd.
  10. Suggest alternatives to what they should be playing. Then what they should be wearing. Then what they should be driving. Then where they should be living. Then what they should do for a living. Hopefully they’ll get the message then. That’d be my reaction anyway...
  11. Favourite - Neil Young plus Old Black every time. Also J. Mascis. Least favourite - Shrill, toppy metal tones.
  12. For me the Harley Benton shortie mentioned above or, depending on the kid’s age a Danelectro Longhorn can be picked up cheap enough if you scout about. They’re stupidly light and offer a capable and non-cumbersome starting point. Seems to be fine for getting my 9 year old comfortable to the overall ‘feel’ of a bass anyhoo.
  13. It’s a great pedal and as you allude to there are a range of sounds from very interesting to mouth agape as you tweak away. I ended up moving mine on, but only because it takes up a fair bit of board real estate and was only an ‘occasionally on’ pedal in the context of my band. So much fun to be had with it though. And yes, the touch with the teeth is v. cool. Enjoy!
  14. Dunno how common this still is but most bands I’ve played with in most situations on a bill one band (usually the headliner but not always) provides a bass cab for shared usage, each bassist then brings their own amp. Same for guitarists. That’s an arrangement I’m still largely happy with - I’ll let others use my cab at a push if needed, but not my amp. With how cheap, portable and pretty damn good a whole slew of class D amps are these days there seems little excuse for each bassist to not take their own.
  15. I always take a backup. Though I’ve needed one twice from memory in 25 years of gigging. To be honest it’s more for my own peace of mind as, while the chances of me needing to break it out are minimal, it’d always be on my mind to one degree or another if I didn’t have one there just in case.
  16. Base price doesn’t seem bad at all, but yeah the extra charges can be a killer on the offshore stuff. I’m glad I wasn’t as close to temptation as you were though, not sure head would’ve won over heart!
  17. Always enjoy DJ. Listened to the album through a couple of times and it’s no exception.
  18. Yep, as per above. The current ‘equivalent’ is the 59DC short scale.
  19. I’m on 7 at the moment, which is the most I’ve ever had at one time. They all perform a function though. That said, I could easily be happy enough with one of them in particular. I see nothing wrong with being a ‘one bass’ player at all, particularly if you’re not playing in a band (where a backup is always a good idea). I’d be led by one thing only myself - do you LOVE any of your current three? If so you may regret moving it on. If you just, well, ‘like’ them all and don’t feel massively attached then personally I wouldn’t hold back from going for it.
  20. Fancied a scratchplate change. Don’t think the mint green did much for the colour of the bass. The red tort works better to my eye. Looks less bland if nowt else...
