  1. Buying from Thomann and other EU based merchants may well become less attractive to UK punters come the new year anyway given the likely increased costs and delivery times to the end user. Personally I’d be holding fire on selecting a new bedfellow until it becomes clear what’s what if you’re not going domestic.
  2. As there are a few HB MB posts around I wasn’t sure which to post on. Anyway... I snagged a B-stock MB-5 SBK which has landed with me today. Playable straight out of the box with a fairly low action, excellent fit and finish, comfortable enough neck (not played a 5er for years so it’ll take a bit of adjustment on my part). The colour is ace and, while I may black out the guard it looks great as is. Can only echo the words of others. Stupidly good for the price, and regardless of that just a very, very decent bass. Was thinking back to the absolute dog of an Encore P that I learned on almost 30 years ago. Was a combined 15th birthday and Christmas present. It wasn’t far off £100 then. How far we have come...
  3. Matthew Ryan (the singer here) never misses the mark for me, whether solo or otherwise.
  4. I think it’s a cracking colour too. Also in agreement re: hardware and headstock. An ebony board would have looked great too.
  5. Have to admit I’ve absolutely no need for another bass at all, and particularly given the current state of play and as I’m playing shorties only for band stuff now. That said it’s been years since I’ve had an MM or MM style bass and I can’t find a good reason to not go for one of these and may well do so in the next couple of days.
  6. The one clip that I remember him playing bass on from years back was from the short lived C4 music show The White Room. Sure that’s somewhere on YT. But regardless, as above, one of those musicians that seemed great on anything he played...
  7. I can roll with most things, but amp overhang is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
  8. Same body wood I think (alder). I put it down to the hardware. The difference isn’t huge but definitely noticeable between my two.
  9. Lovely basses. Absolutely love mine and weigh in a bit less than the standard Mex PJ Mustangs IME too. GLWTS, not that you’ll need it...
  10. Downside is with this you’ve got to dig the Hofner violin style. Seem to be plenty who rate the HB stuff, no experience of this myself though. Regardless, it definitely ticks the ‘cheap’ box... https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass_fl_vs_vintage_series.htm?o=5&search=1603610928
  11. That Mick Fleetwood’s let himself go.
  12. That looks in great condition. Love my Ripper to bits, alas mine was fairly well beaten and modded before it came to me. A tip top one has been on my wish list since.
  13. Appears this may be in stock (assume it’s been more recently added if so). Weren’t these more than a grand new?!? https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/pre-loved-tc-electronic-blacksmith-bass-head
  14. Needs tidying up a bit but I’m finally somewhere approaching happy with my dual rig board for my bass/drums two piece.
  15. I had success, but then I only ordered a used distortion pedal that I collected from Birmingham PMT on Saturday, and a Black Rat hard case, which arrived yesterday. Looks like they rather messed this up though. With so much of the listed sale stock being secondhand/B stock their website really should have been up to the task of real time updates with so many ‘one in stock’ items. The lack of this has no doubt caused them a headache and annoyed punters in the process.
  16. Had an Ashdown ABM 414T (4ohm 4x10) a good few years back now and man, that was absolutely exquisite. Glass back means I can only do lightweight now, and I must say that my Barefaced Two10 is on a par as my favourite ever cab. Crazy power and superb articulation for such little weight.
  17. First time in a long while I’ve seen a PMT sale at prices that look like sale prices. Some cracking deals in there for sure.
  18. I think a fully ‘nice clean tone’ doesn’t really completely happen with octave up effects ever in my experience. That said, I’ve tried a few, largely as I’m in a bass/drums duo where I’m doing a dual channel thing with one being an octave up with distortion. As a result I don’t use the effect clean much, but when I’ve experimented I’ve found the T-Rex Quint Machine to have the better, more natural clean octave up sound of those I’ve tried. It’s a very capable pedal generally as it does a fifth above and octave down too. I’ve also tried the octave up on the Digitech Ricochet (very artificial so wouldn’t recommend if ‘natural’ is your thing, though actually I generally use it for 2 octave up stabs and that’ll always sound synthetic!). Also had the mkii Mooer Tender Octaver for a while. The mkii is still similar to a POG in terms of its octave up sound but still comes some way behind the Quint. YMMV though. Have heard the TC Sub n Up get some decent props too though haven’t tried one. Yet...
  19. Blimey, great price. Wish I had use for it just now...
  20. Also, don’t discount the Revelation bass vi. They’re stupidly good for the price they can be picked up for (got mine used for about £220 from memory) and are a very capable starting place.
  21. I had mine paired with a TC Electronic RS212. Not the smallest cab, but not enormous either, and not a backbreaker for weight. Sounds pretty damn good. Gone down the BF route recently so will be moving the TC on actually...
  22. There’s a Behringer one (MX400 I think it’s called) that’s a 4 channel mixer, so more than you need, but will sort this with aplomb for less than £20.
