  1. Geddy Lee's "Big Book of Bass" or whatever the full title is, appears at more affordable prices occasionally (compared to when it came out), and is beautiful. I requested a copy for Xmas.
  2. I think when @AndyTravis did a search for one, maybe a year ago or so, that may have triggered me selling this now. I wasn't ready at that time though, so it kept brewing under the surface.
  3. Yeah, look at the title of what you've been watching...
  4. This Polish collab is pretty cool. What makes it special is that it was made with a single camera shot, and also that the song was actually performed while shooting (of course there were overdubs added later etc). This other version, is the guy who wrote it performing it with a system of loppers at a gig Hope you don't mind the language
  5. Something like this? I heard a few of this guy's builds (got one on order too) and they tend to sound as if a rottweiler, a concrete mixer and a Royal Enfield struggling up a hill had a baby.
  6. I love him, was late to the party (only "discovered" him in mid 2019), but happily I was able to attend one of his intimate gigs last November I think. This is my favourite, apparently it's from a TV show, but that I'm unfamiliar with Proves that going against the rules is where the art is
  7. The bass control in the Sadowsky preamp I've got in a jazz is apparently centred at 40hz, but then I guess it affects a wider range and the low centre affects the shape of the curve in a way that's good for the "naturalness" of tone when boosted. It is a very audible control, affects and thickens all notes on the neck and doesn't get too muddy unless boosted stupidly high.
  8. Yamaha BB1500A Yamaha BB415 Not quite enough to see a pattern, but hmm...
  9. PRICE DROPPED: £900 Edit: I currently need a good P to work for an artist I like, so could be tempted by a straight swap for something of a similar value. Roadworn, Classic '50s Lacquer, Am Std, Am Pro? I do have an option to borrow one, and I'm a fussy f**ker, so will only go for one that really speaks to me. For sale is my Fender Marcus Miller signature Jazz Bass. I bought it on BassChat in around 2012; not sure when exactly or who from, since the messages are gone. It had been upgraded by the previous owner with a Sadowsky VTC preamp and Hipshot D-Tuner in matching reverse/nickel. You can say "modded, not upgraded" but I think it's hard to disagree these are legitimate upgrades. The VTC feature itself makes so much difference, the tone control being functional in both passive and active modes allows for some superb tones. Like, cutting most highs with the tone control while boosting treble with the active knob (which is centered somewhat lower, freq-wise) when on bridge pickup soloed, gets you that dark but focused and super spiky tone of electric jazz/fusion virtuoso. Then of course you get a superb slap tone, clean and classic jazz bass sounds and everything you can reasonably expect from a bass of this format. It's bright, punchy, meaty, growly, snappy, airy, open, clear and big. The bass is super playable. When I bought it, the nut was a tiny bit high, I found, so I got Andrew from Anaconda Basses (they weren't really a thing yet then, about to launch) to make me a brass one. It improved playability and effortlessness in lower registers, open string sound and sustain (possibly) and harmonics (audibly). It's as good a jazz bass as you'll get, if you're into this sort of thing. I recall checking the serial number once, and the result said 2007-2010. Also, I think it weighed at 4.1kg, will edit if I remember wrong. It's fairly light and very well balanced. The battery keeps forever. I changed it recently after more than 2 years. It was still going strong, just messed with my inner comfort. Unfortunately, I seem to have inherited arthritic tendencies, so combined with my long fingers, I can't really play a jazz neck anymore. I've commissioned a build of a bass based in some ways on this one, and it will also be funded by this sale - therefore no trades, I'm afraid. I'm willing to post, will need to figure it out though. I will change strings to brand new D'Addario XL steels or nickels (buyer's choice) in 45-105.
  10. Elon Musk did a great job on percussion!
  11. My favourite for bass is a no-name yellow pick that was included in the box of a cheap Joyo pedal I once bought online. Looks a bit like a .73 Tortex, but it's slightly shinier and harder, while still having *almost* as much flex. Has as much attack as my beloved (and heavily bevelled by usage) Tortex .88, but it's a tad brighter. I'm geeking out super heavily on picks when it comes to an acoustic guitar, and the difference is absolutely dramatic there. As in, "like several totally different guitars depending on the pick" dramatic. I tried a LOT, except for those crazy expensive like Blue Chip, and settled on a few favourites. Different shapes and thicknesses of Dunlop Ultex and Primetone do it for me on acoustic, one model sounded gross, scratchy and annoying when new, but super sweet and most detailed when the tip got polished. I tried those on bass as well, unfortunately they chipped and didn't really sound (too clicky) or play (too stiff) that good.
  12. I almost offered you mine (already has a Sadowsky VTC) when you had an ad up looking for one. But then I realised I would probably regret it too much afterwards.
  13. Bargain! 😱 Got a V4 in another colour, became my main player in no time. GLWTS
  14. I thought about these a lot in my early years of playing, when the time came to upgrade my first. 1999 for sure, had the catalog until recently.
  15. I emailed years ago about a problem I had with a Compulator pedal, no response either. It must have been around 2012.
  16. I've got the Firenza Red version (somewhat ugly, but stumbled on it in a second hand section of a local store and had to leave with it) and totally agree with the neck description (owned a 2012 Am Std P for a bit). Brilliant bass, and one I use most these days.
  17. Beautiful! Unfortunately in current circumstances I'm "trades only" XD
  18. To be honest, I might have good reasons to have left both ashtrays on my aforementioned SX jazz.
