  1. I know, right? My dad had a red one for 20-ish years. Only ever needed minor repairs. Between its boot and a trailer, it pulled 2 tonnes of strawberries/cauliflower/daikon through a ploughed field on a daily basis.
  2. An Oly white P bass copy built in Poland? It has to be this
  3. My "one that got away" was a brand new ex-display white 1024x sold for, iirc, £340 by Promenade Music on one of the LBGS, in 2013 I think.
  4. Passive aggressive is exactly what I'm going for with this pickup.
  5. Surely it could have gone farader. Now my first HOT topic has all gone to pot.
  6. Some posts are better out of context
  7. It's going to be a Buzz by Restauracja Gitar from Poland
  8. Wow 😁 Thank you for all the responses. I think the brightness thing came because both the "Model" models have a bit of a reputation for being somewhat dark. I know it's reversible, I might even have another popular P pickup sitting in a drawer somewhere. It was intended to go in the bass that convinced me that I'm a "P bass guy" really, my Vintage V4. But then I realised I like the Wilkinson just fine. The bass will not be an epitome of "custom" in wood choice sense. It's only custom because it is being built to my order, but to fairly "vintage correct" specs - alder, maple, rosewood, 34", 20 frets, 7.25" radius, nitro, even tort 😬
  9. I've ordered a custom P bass, and when it came to a final decision on the pickup, I somehow went for Model P. I'll spend next two month doubting my choices, so I need to be telt.
  10. It will be great. Even as a fretless, this bass had a very piano-like "ping" when strung with fresh rounds.
  11. I had never noticed it was finished!
  12. I've had one, in fairly rare Raspberry Red too. Sold it locally, the B string wasn't good, especially compared to the 605 I had prior to that.
  13. Andy bought a Yamaha bass from me. Absolute superstar with an angel's patience, even organised pre-paid shipping labels as I had never posted a bass before.
  14. Could you please elaborate on Chris Mcintyre and what he charges for routing pickup cavities, if it's OK? I plan to turn my Vintage V4 into either a double reversed P or a PJ.
  15. I was watching some clips of Jim Stinnett (RIP) of Real Bass Lessons on Youtube yesterday, and he had this beautiful Sherwood green P bass in one of them, I nearly changed the order I've placed 😬
  16. I did like the original colour, but this wood doesn't look bad really.
  17. Weird not having a fretless for the first time in 20 years! 😬
  18. They're in Poland, shipped to the UK before and will for me too. I haven't looked into any post-brexit fees yet, that might be something to consider.
  19. You could have a Buzz built by Restauracja Gitar for that, check them out. I'm having one made.
  20. , I'm having a Buzz PJ built by Restauracja Gitar in Poland. I'm a bit undecided on some options, including the finish, so a bit of brainstorming, experiences and maybe pics would be much appreciated. It will be a PJ, with the thickest neck they have, alder body. Nickel hardware, I really don't like the look of chrome. Hipshot D-tuner. Bridge probably Omega Badass clone. Maybe a vintage type with threaded saddles. Shortlisted pickups are either DiMarzio model P/model J combo or the Geezer set. Maybe Aguilar if I can stretch cost-wise. Other recommendations welcome. J pickup needs to be hum-cancelling and in general they need to be fairly full range, I don't like the hyped overwound types such as QuarterPounders (based on very recent experience). I would love to hear some feedback on the DiMarzio. I know they are known as dark, but I do like yt samples I hear. The circuit will likely be a 3/4/5-position (depending if I go for serial/parallel thing etc) rotary switch and a tone control, to keep the classic 2-knob look. Now the finish. They are best at this. They follow the old Fender recipe, a layer of ultra hard Fullerplast grain filler/primer followed by this, well cured nitro. They are rather good ad relics too, and it's tempting, especially as I wouldn't be charged extra for it. At the moment I'm thinking reliced metallic black, dark tort pickguard, rosewood board, black or cream DiMarzios for slightly sinister look. But I do love a tobacco burst too, can't do a classic sunburst with opaque black edges and "German flag" transitions. Or maybe dark aged LPB, but then with a mint or aged pearl pickguard. Please challenge me intellectually! Not that I'm not already... Examples of what catches my eye:
  21. Yeah, I've had a couple of Warwicks and a BB350F that's being sent to Andy shortly 👌🏼
  22. What would be a good price (from a buyer's perspective) for one of those? That has to be the perfect pickup config.
  23. Exactly, I saw one (Vintage V4) two years ago in a local second hand shop and despite hating everything about its looks, I had to try it. One of my favourite basses ever. Very lively and responsive, super easy to set up ridiculously low, sounds great. I'm selling my Nate Mendel because of it.
  24. I've had this Fender Marcus with a Sadowsky preamp for the longest time, only sold it on here like 5 months ago.
