  1. They're fantastic. Preamp kind of difficult to understand, but capable. Native tone was much more dense than the Marcusowsky that was my main bass then. Chunkier. Marcus only came close when I put DiMarzio model Js in it. The Yamaha had a sweet chunky neck too.
  2. I realised I've had 4 BBs already. First a natural 605 bought for £160 on ebay in 2009, then a year or two later a raspberry red 415 that I won also on ebay at £115, but the seller contacted me right away saying he only wants £95 as he just noticed the pickup switch was shot. He happened to be Tony Williams of Steelers Wheel ("Stuck in the middle with you"). Then a wine red 1500a (£160), and a 350f from classifieds here (£150). The three I moved on are the basses I regret letting go.
  3. Thanks! Might PM the seller 🤔😁
  4. Then there's this BB404 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1743713895811547/
  5. Wow, I GASsed so hard for one of these as a teenager. Missed out on a metallic blue one on fb marketplace a few weeks ago.
  6. Will do @AndyTravis, I will soon be putting a few things up for sale anyways to help fund a built, so this one may need to go really.
  7. I've played it for the first time in ages and I don't think it's available anymore 😅
  8. Hey Andy, I've got one that I don't really use. Still fretless. One very bad ding to the back of body (in fact a small chunk of wood missing). I'm not at home now, will post pics later. Bought in 2015 from a nice Basschatter named Rich, we met up at King's X Station. I paid £150 then and would want £90 now. I also wouldn't be able to organise a box as all guitar stores are closed here in Edinburgh.
  9. My main focus last few years has been my tone. Spent lots of time and money trying basses, strings, pedals, even picks. There was also a time, about two decades ago, when I wasn't interested in my tone at all. Had one bass, no pedals and a simple 1x15 combo. I spent several hours a day practising. I had time to do that, because with the gigs I was getting, I didn't need a day job. I also had lots of time over last year. I spent it geeking out on my tone, and I will continue to do so. I've got a day job and I need it.
  10. This thread makes me think I would probably be able to turn my P bass into a combo of a BB1024 and 1025 at current low prices, with little to no extra investment 🤔
  11. Love me a bit of good old Richard Cheese now and then... I find this version rather good and avoiding the parody element:
  12. This, sadly not by BC members, answers the question too, and for Telecasters as well as a bonus:
  13. In 2013-ish I went to see Shuffler, who opened for Shalamar. Around the same time I went to see Alice in Chains at Alexandra Palace and a lot of people were there for the opener Ghost.
  14. The bass I've made most money playing was a defretted Peavey Milestone jazz bass thing with a plywood body. I don't know if it sounded good or not, didn't care as much about "tone" then as I do now, didn't have any pedals etc. I did practise a lot though, might have had something to do with it.
  15. I actually got mine on here for £175, just worried about the future generations 😁
  16. It was. To be fair I didn't like the transformer version too much, much preferred the neutral tone of the basic version.
  17. About a decade ago I decided the perfect bass for me would be a Marcus Miller sig Fender Jazz. My friend had one and I really liked it, he wouldn't sell though. I bought two on here, and borrowed my friend's one. I put the same strings on all three and set them up to my specs. They were so different it's not even funny. My friend's sunburst was the heaviest and had the thickest neck, was also the darkest sounding. The natural that I kept was lightest and most airy and open sounding. The other natural was somewhat generic compared to those two. Still very good though and I would have been super happy to keep it if it wasn't for the comparison.
  18. My V4 P-type thing is the one bass that I had to buy on the spot when I only went in to get some picks. Also, the first P bass that really "did it" for me. Very solid and very responsive and lively. Great pickup and hardware. I now have a Mendel sig too, and while prettier, it isn't necessarily better in any particular area.
  19. Bass Gallery posted that they have one of the original big Origin Cali76 for sale. Seems to be the then basic version, without the transformer or parallel blend. They put it up for £950. Is this what these sell for these days? Will we mere mortals be reduced to Am*z*n brand pedals soon?
  20. Fret size and the way the nut is cut can affect the feel of the neck quite a bit too
  21. What's more mind-boggling, is why would they make a German flag themed bass in Japan 🤔
  22. The pickups themselves are probably a bit nicer too, the hardware definitely is
  23. I'll have to wait for the sale, missed preorders by like one day 😖🤷🏼‍♂️
